The research, presented in this paper, employs recent work in stakeholder theory and CSR to examine the perceptions of a diverse set of non-managerial stakeholders in the context of a developing country, Bangladesh. A series of semi-structured interviews were conducted with individuals who identify with various non-managerial stakeholder groups. Interviewees generally believed that the motivation and practice of CSR in Bangladesh is developing in response to pressures from international markets and is producing largely cosmetic responses. Also, they expressed concerns that, given the economic, political, and social conditions in Bangladesh, premature adoption of strict CSR standards may lead to increased corruption and other unintended consequences.

Exponential growth of population and urbanization, and the development of social economy, coupled with the improvement of living standard, have resulted in an increase in the amount of MSW generation throughout the world. On average the developed countries typically generate 521.95–759.2 kg per person per year (kpc) and 109.5–525.6 kpc typically by developing countries. Recent estimates suggest that the MSW generation globally exceeds 2 billion tons per year, which is a potential threat to environmental dilapidation. Therefore, MSW management (MSWM) seems to be one of the key topics for environmental protection in present days and also in the future. The authors have illustrated MSW generation and composition analysis and have provided a comprehensive review of MSWM in different countries throughout the world based on the available literatures. Some of the important aspects of waste management, such as composting, landfilling, and incineration, are illustrated.

Materials and methods A retrospective analysis of 33 children with BL between the years 2003 and 2005 seen in our institution was undertaken. Twenty-nine male and four female patients from age 3 to 16 years (with a mean age 5.9 years) were reviewed. Results The gastrointestinal tract was involved in 19 patients (57.5%), kidneys in 9 (27.2%), peritoneum in 8 (24.2%), liver in 4 (12.1%), spleen in 3 (9%), adrenals in 3 (9%), and pancreas in 1 patient (3%). Extra-nodal head and neck involvement was seen in eight patients (24.2%). Bone involvement in four (12.1%), lung in three (9%), heart in two (6%), skin in two (6%), and testis in one (3%) of these patients. Abdominal lymph nodes were enlarged in 21 children (63.6%), while cervical lymph nodes were enlarged in 8 (24.2%). Conclusion CT proved to be an invaluable tool in the characterization of the disease processes in these children. In addition, it provided us with useful information about the anatomical distribution, patterns of involvement, as well as complications of BL.

The RATC was administered to 34 Egyptian and 34 Canadian children ages 6-13 years. Canadian children scored higher on autonomy and lower on receiving support from others and parental limit setting. At older ages, Egyptian children manifested less rejection, desire for help from others, and aggression. There were no cultural differences in anxiety or depression and few differences on indicator and resolution scales related to understanding the task and resolving problems. The findings validated cross-cultural use of the RATC and demonstrated that the increasingly general theory of collectivism allowed meaningful predictions about personality and clinical traits.

The current standard practice is to collect PF samples for pH measurement in heparinized syringes at room temperature and to instantaneously process these samples. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of collecting PF in heparinized versus non-heparinized syringes at room temperature on PF pH measurements when processed at various time intervals. From 50 consecutive thoracenteses, 1 ml of PF was collected anaerobically in each of six 3-ml syringes. Only three syringes were coated with heparin. The samples were processed for PF pH measurements at time 0 (T(0)) and 1 h (T(1)) and 2 h (T(2)) after collection. All specimens were preserved at room temperature, until the measurements were carried out in duplicates by a calibrated blood gas analyzer. PF pH values were significantly lower with heparinized versus non-heparinized syringes at all time intervals (T(0): pH heparinized = 7.378 +/- 0.107 vs. pH non-heparinized = 7.390 +/- 0.108; T(1): pH heparinized = 7.378 +/- 0.115 vs. pH non-heparinized = 7.389 +/- 0.111; T(2): pH heparinized = 7.367 +/- 0.105 vs. pH non-heparinized = 7.389 +/- 0.121). In the heparinized syringes, there was a significant decrease in PF pH values at T(2) versus T(0) and T(1). There were no significant changes in PF pH values over time in the non-heparinized syringes. For serial PF pH measurements, the same type of syringes (either heparinized or non-heparinized) should be consistently used. With heparinized syringes, processing of PF pH measurements should be performed within 1 h after collection.
