The aim of present work was to comparing prescribing indicators, patient care, and missing information on prescriptions and identifying and assessing drug use patterns in three polyclinics in Benghazi city, Libya. Methods: In this descriptive cross section study a random sample of 1522 prescriptions were selected from three polyclinics include Ras-Ebida, Khalid Ibn-Elwalid and Al-Kish, over 4 months (July-October 2020). The data was collected through predesigned questionnaire. The prescriptions were analyzed for the following indicators: prescribing indicators, patientcare indicators and drug-use indicators. Results: A total of 1522 prescriptions (average = 507.3/clinic) were collected from the three polyclinics including 2329 prescribed (average = 1.4/prescription) items. Percentage of drugs prescribed with generic name was 0.0%, the percentage of prescriptions with antibiotics was 46.3%. The average of prescriptions of injections was 0.84. The average consultation time is 3.4 min and the average dispensing time was found to be 24 seconds. Major classes of drugs prescribed included analgesics, antibiotics, drugs used in medicine & derma clinics, ophthalmic drugs, minerals & vitamins, anti-inflammatory drugs, antihistaminic and antifungal drugs. The most prescribed analgesic was paracetamol (94.4%) and antibiotic was Augmentin (50.3%). In regarding prescribed drug in medicine clinics was found lisinopril (32.0%) and ophthalmic drug was cusicrom (36.8%). In addition, the majorities of prescribed vitamin were vitamin C (81.0%), for GIT drug was omeprazole (59.3%), and for dermatology was Fucidin (56.3%). While most prescribed antiinflammatory was aspirin (52.4%), antihistaminic was loratidine (97.0%), for antifungal drug was flagyl (58.0%). Conclusion: Despite the efforts being made to improve prescribing habits and to rationalize the use of drugs, the obtained results confirm the deficiencies as reported earlier and suggest that methods of intervention should be initiated to improve prescribing trends in these polyclinics.

In addition, this bacterium is also involved in the development of cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of P. gingivalis infection on gene and protein expression in human aortic smooth muscle cells (AoSMCs) and its relation to cellular function. Results: AoSMCs were exposed to viable P. gingivalis for 24 h, whereafter confocal fluorescence microscopy was used to study P. gingivalis invasion of AoSMCs. AoSMCs proliferation was evaluated by neutral red assay. Human genome microarray, western blot and ELISA were used to investigate how P. gingivalis changes the gene and protein expression of AoSMCs. We found that viable P. gingivalis invades AoSMCs, disrupts stress fiber structures and significantly increases cell proliferation. Microarray results showed that, a total of 982 genes were identified as differentially expressed with the threshold log2 fold change > |1| (adjust p-value <0.05). Using bioinformatic data mining, we demonstrated that up-regulated genes are enriched in gene ontology function of positive control of cell proliferation and down-regulated genes are enriched in the function of negative control of cell proliferation. The results from pathway analysis revealed that all the genes belonging to these two categories induced by P. gingivalis were enriched in 25 pathways, including genes of Notch and TGF-beta pathways. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that P. gingivalis is able to invade AoSMCs and stimulate their proliferation. The activation of TGF-beta and Notch signaling pathways may be involved in the bacteria-mediated proliferation of AoSMCs. These findings further support the association between periodontitis and cardiovascular diseases.

Therefore, the present study aimed to study the clinical features, nutritional status, risk factors, and behaviors of children with autism. Methods: Across section study involved a total of 100 subjects 74 (76%) male and 26 (24%) female. The ages of the children were ranging from 3-17 years old. The self-administration questionnaire containing questions on behavior, health problems, nutritional status, and risk factors was also completed. Bodyweight and height were measured to calculate the BMI percentile. Laboratory tests such as blood glucose and HbA1C, vitamin D were included. Clinical and behavioral information is also involved. All samples were analyzed through either mean ±SEM or Chi-square to determine significant differences. Results: The present study shows that the majority of the children have age 7 years old, and autism increased significantly at ages between 6-10 years (P<0.05). In comparison to females, a male has three times more affected by autism (P=0.000). There were many points identified in the study including autism onset started between 1-3 years, blood groups of parents O+ significant resultant in offspring with O+ blood groups, 20% of subjects have positive family history and consanguinity for each. The behavior of autistic children shows that children like playing with electronic IPAD, dislike hearing crying, and less sleeping hours than normal people but they have similar food attitudes and consumption compared to normal counterparts. Impairment in communication was the most common sign of autism and less like hours for play. Obesity was a common nutritional disorder and food behavior has been seen toward some foods. The common health problems reported were epilepsy, respiratory diseases, constipation, and UTIs. Conclusion: The present study revealed that some behaviors, risk factors, health problems, and abnormal levels of calcium, hemoglobin, and vitamin D were determined. Furthermore, increase body weight some behaviors toward certain types of foods have been identified. This study suggested that routine monitoring of children with autism should include assessment of blood groups, dietary habits, as well as anthropometric measurements.

We undertook a systematic review to investigate the effect of demand feeding versus scheduled feeding on obesity in early childhood. A systematic search of electronic databases identified studies relating feeding during early life mainly infancy to episodes of early childhood obesity. Included studies were assessed for quality based on study methodology, validity of dietary assessment, success of follow-up, standardised assessment of obesity. Data from ten cohorts involving 5535 subjects were included. Studies had follow-up of more than 60 %, adjusted statistically for three or more confounders and used standard criteria to determine end points. About half the studies used a validated FFQ, administered the FFQ more than once or had follow-up of one year. Fewer than half the studies involved subjects’ representative of the general population. Therefore, atRA-induced CYP26 expression accelerated atRA inactivation in AOSMCs, giving rise to an atRA-CYP26 feedback loop. Inhibition of this loop with a CYP26 inhibitor increased retinoid signaling. Conclusion: The results suggest that CYP26 inhibitors may be a therapeutic alternative to exogenous retinoid administration.
