This paper used the Egyptian Labor Market Panel data 2006 to compare the changes that took place ... more This paper used the Egyptian Labor Market Panel data 2006 to compare the changes that took place in the labor market, and particularly the MSEs market, over time (1998 and 2006) in order to answer several questions. The most important of which are: How do the continuous economic changes affect the role of the private sector and distribution of workers among the different sizes of the enterprises? And, are the MSEs still the major job providers or are the medium and large sized companies starting to offer a growing percentage of work opportunities to the labor force? The comparisons revealed the following: The steady pace of the privatization process, in the wider sense of the word, revealed that the estimated numbers of MSEs increased by 4.7% annually from 2.5 million Economic Units (EUs) to 3.5 million EUs in 2006, which is a far higher growth rate compared to that of the period 1988-1998, which was 1.6% annually. The aim of this study is to define the epidemiology of the colorectal cancer in the United Arab E... more The aim of this study is to define the epidemiology of the colorectal cancer in the United Arab Emirates and compare it with the other Gulf States and developed countries. This study is a retrospective descriptive study that includes 114 patients who underwent surgeries for colorectal carcinoma at Al-Ain and Tawam Hospitals in the United Arab Emirates during the period 1985 through to 1998. These patients were under medical follow up for a mean period of 24 months (range 6-120 months) Both univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to assess predictors of recurrence and survival. The survival curves were computed by using Kaplan-Meier method. Mean annual incidence was 12 patients/year. There were 77 males (67.5%) and 37 females (32.5%). The mean age at the time of diagnosis was 46.6 11.8 years with the median age of 47 years. The mean overall survival time was 63.7 7.7 months. This is a prospective descriptive case-control study. This study includes 108 patients who underwent surgeries for colorectal carcinoma and 108 healthy control subjects during the period from1998 to 2003. The patients' data included: age, gender, pathological data and p53 expression. We performed the avidin-biotin complex immunoperoxidase method to de- tect bound p53 protein. An analysis with the Ion Exchange Chromatography was carried out for individual free amino acids. IgG antibodies against a low molecular weight fraction of H. pylori antigens were measured in duplicate with a validated in house indirect enzyme- linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
