This technical note presents a new technique of mandibular osteotomy to prevent bony interferences with simultaneous maxillary impctions. As well as increase in bone contact for great mandibular advancements which results in better bone healing. furthermore, Fixation of bony segments in this area is far from third molar alveolar socket if extraction is done and is not involved in the process.

Since, the osteotomy design has an important role in decreasing BSSO complications, we developed a technique which restrict the osteotomy points to posterior medial ramus cut and anterior vertical cut in widely used hunsuck modification for decreasing the complications.

Results: Occlusion status was evaluated by observing the dental contact by articulating paper and also as subjective by the patient, all patients had proper occlusion. 4 cases (40%) at the end of the first week after surgery complained of joint pain during the touch, at last follow-up, none of the patients had tenderness. All patients were normal at 6 months after surgical treatment in terms of mouth opening. Facial nerve was maintained in all patients except only one case (10%) that weakness was observed in buccal branch of the facial nerve after surgery which was resolved completely after the 6-month follow-up and had returned to normal status. Also, there were no signs of complications of salivary glands, such as salivary fistula, sialocele or postoperati...

Materials and Methods : The study population consisted of 31 patients (16 female and 15 male) with the average age of 21 years, whose final occlusion 2 months after the surgery was perfect. The amount of reverse overjet was less than 5 mm in all patients. Surgeons and orthodontists made their treatment plan separately and if there were any differences, the surgeon and orthodontist would discuss it and the patient would be treated by the best treatment plan. The patients’ satisfaction at least 5 months after orthognathic surgery was assessed quantitatively by means of a visual analogue scale (VAS) of 10 cm. Result : Among 31 patients entered in this study, orthodontists suggested two-jaw surgery for 61% of patients while surgeons suggested two-jaw surgery for 45% of patients. In 35% of patients, the ort...

Up to now, different dental manifestations such as taurodontism, congenital absence of permanent teeth, shovel incisors, occlusal anomalies and increased permanent tooth size have been reported. A case of Klinefelter syndrome with very rare dental features is presented.

The present study aimed to assess the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and dental caries in Rafsanjan children aged 6-10 years in 2019. Materials & Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study that investigated the relationship between body mass index and dental caries in 215 male and female students (6-10 years old), selected by simple random sampling in four groups: slim, normal BMI, overweight, and obese the relationship between BMI and DMFT / dmft had been determined by Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests and Spearman correlation coefficient. Results: There was a significant inverse relationship between dmft index and children's body mass index (p value < 0.001, r = -0.315). There was no significant difference between the mean DMFT index between lean, normal weight, overweight and obese childr...

Sixty patients with the mean age of 31.03 years underwent surgical reduction with a 20-25mm incision in the retromandibular area with an antero-parotid transmasseteric approach. All patients were followed between 6 to 12 months. At the end of the first week, six patients exhibited postoperative malocclusion. At the next visits, all patients had optimal occlusion. Maximal interincisal opening (MIO) of 56 patients (93.3%) was >37mm, and only four patients (6.7%) had MIO<37mm. In three patients (5%), weakness of the buccal branch of the facial nerve was noticed postoperatively. No salivary gland complications were seen. The surgical scar was hardly noticeable. Retromandibular access with transmasseteric antero-parotid approach is the technique of choice for treatment of high- and low-level subcondylar fractures with adequate vis...
