The effectiveness of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in mitigating the practice of unclean fuel has also been analysed in this study along with other related issues. The results based on personal information of 2,541 individuals from 530 households of Barak Valley reveal that incidence of respiratory illness is more profound in the households of solid biomass fuel users. The study further reveals that though PMUY has equipped the rural households with clean fuel connections but failed to change the fuel use practice of the beneficiaries. Among the barriers of clean fuel use practices, insufficient income of the households and availability of free and low-cost alternative fuels are found to be more prominent. The ordered probit model to examine the factors posing risk to respiratory illness reveal that women are at higher risk of developing respiratory syndromes as they spend more time in cooking space. While among others, smoking habit and age of the person are significant in increasing the risk pulmonary syndromes. JEL: I15, I38, Q52, Q58

So the present study also set the objective to compare the food security status of the BPL households with and without having BPL card apart from measuring the food security status of the BPL households. While collecting the data multistage purposive and stratified random sample technique has been used. To measure the household food security of sample population, a food security index has been constructed by considering per capita calorie co...

Research paper thumbnail of Efficiency and Its Determinants: Firm-level Evidences from Micro Enterprises in Dibrugarh District of Assam

It is based on cross-sectional firm-level primary data, collected through a field survey from 115 micro-manufacturing enterprises in the district. The results of the data envelopment analysis suggests that the average technical efficiency score of the firms is quite low, which indicates a high degree of technical inefficiency in the production process. Further efficiency in the enterprises is more due to the inefficient conversion of inputs into outputs rather than due to scale inefficiency. An attempt has also been made to identify some firm-specific and entrepreneurial background variables responsible for inefficiency using the maximum likelihood Tobit regression model. The study reveals that skilled labour, firm-age, firm-size, experience of entrepreneur and gender of entrepreneur have a po...

But in a limited world any growth rate more than carrying capacity of the earth brings more danger for us than the welfare. The BRICS countries at present are the most growing economies in the world and at the same time are the most natural resource based economies. The present study is an attempt to examine the trend of natural resource depletion and different greenhouse gas emissions in BRICS countries during 1992 to 2012, and also the relationship between economic growth and environmental degradation. The study also estimates the relative resource efficiency of five BRICS countries during the study period by using data envelopment analysis. On conducting various tests this study finds positive trend of different greenhouse gas emissions and natural resource depletion in BRICS during the study period. Natural resource depletion and greenhouse gas emi...
