Conclusion : les SIC constituent une urgence médico-chirurgicale. Les formes d'origines ORL sont plus fréquentes. Malgré les difficultés thérapeutiques, le pronostic reste acceptable dans notre étude 10 % de décès.

The main objective is to make a socio-demographic, clinical, therapeutic and prognostic assessment in the short term in a medico-surgical emergency department in Guinea. Material and Methods: This was a descriptive retrospective study lasting 2 years from January 1 st , 2014 to December 31 st , 2015 inclusive. All complete medical records of patients hospitalized for stroke confirmed by brain scan were included in this study. Sociodemographic, clinical, para-clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary data were collected. Results: During the 2 years out of 1321 patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit, strokes represented 7.3% of cases. The average age was 67.2 years old with the extremes of 30 and 99 years old. We had a male predominance of 59 men versus 38 women with a sex ratio of 1.55. The most common cardiovascular risk factors were high blood pressure (74.23%), diabetes (22.68%), and age (89.69%). The Glasgow Score was between 3-8/15 in 49 patients or 50.52%. The death rate was 14.4%. Conclusion: The management of serious strokes in intensive care units in emergency rooms considerably reduces short-term mortality and neurological sequelae of patients.

A European ancestor was postulated to have introduced the mutant Huntingtin (mHtt) gene to the continent, however recent work has shown the existence of a unique Huntingtin haplotype in South-Africa specific to indigenous Africans.ObjectiveWe aimed to investigate the CAG repeats expansion in the Huntingtin (Htt) gene in a geographically diverse cohort of patients with chorea and unaffected controls from sub-Saharan Africa.MethodsWe evaluated 104 participants: 45 patients with chorea, 24 asymptomatic first-degree relatives of subjects with chorea and 35 healthy controls for the presence of the mHtt. Participants were recruited from 6 African countries. Additional data were collected from patients positive for the mHtt including demographics, presence of psychiatric and cognitive symptoms, family history, spoken languages and tribal origin. This report describes a series of 42 cases of late epilepsy collected over a three-year period. Findings were consistent with the literature: highest incidence in young age groups, predominance of partial symptomatic epilepsy, and wide spectrum of etiologies. The most frequent etiology was tumoral disease followed by vascular and infectious disease. Brain CT scan and electro-encephalography were highly useful for identification of clinical and etiological entities.

Recently, demand for rice consumption has been increasing in a semi-arid country of Namibia, located in Southern Africa, due to the shift in consumer preference for rice. In the northern region, seasonal wetlands, Oshanas and Zambezi River flood plains can retain sufficient amount of water for a few months after the over flow of rivers due to heavy rainfall in Angola and Zambia. Efficient use of these wetlands could be made for sustainable rice production. However, the water level in flood prone area cannot be controlled, and therefore, prolonged flooding occurs. The objective of this present study is to evaluate deepwater tolerance of rice cultivars of O. sativa, O. glaberrima and interspecifics progenies including NERICA by survival rate during seedling stage.

Opioid analgesics have been recognized as the mainstay for treatment of acute pain in a majority of postoperative care units. Intravenous patient-controlled analgesia (IVPCA) with the opioids drugs sufentanil and fentanyl has proven to be effective when used in the immediate postoperative period. The aim of the study was to determine the efficacy and safety of sufentanil for postoperative analgesia based on the same principle, and, fentanyl citrate was chosen as a control drug for upper and lower abdominal operations under general anesthesia. Methodology; It was a prospective clinical study carried out at Union hospital, from December 2014 to March 2015. 240 patients were scheduled for upper and lower abdominal surgery requiring general anesthesia. They were divided into four groups: test group (A) and control group (B); (C) ...

Research work on protein phosphorylation started in the 1950s with the discovery of phosphorylase a and phosphorylase b which are phospho and dephospho forms of the same enzyme. Over the last decade, rice proteomics has accomplished tremendous progress in setting up techniques to proteome nearly all tissues, organs and organelles. The progress made in this field is evident in number of research works. However, research on rice protein phosphorylation is still at its infancy and there are still many unanswered questions. In this review, the general description of protein phosphorylation, including history, structure, frequency of occurrence and function, are discussed. This work also elucidates the different methods for identification, qualification and finally, the progress in rice phosphoproteome research and perspectives.

N can improve the chlorophyll content and thus affect photon absorption, but the photosynthetic rate does not increase accordingly. To investigate this mechanism, three concentrations of N treatments were applied to two rice varieties, Zhefu802 and Fgl. The results indicated increased chlorophyll content of leaves with an increased N supply. Little discrepancy was detected in Rubisco enzyme activity and Non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) in the high nitrogen (HN) and moderate nitrogen (MN) treatments. The model that photoinhibition occurs in Zhefu802 due to a lack of balance of light absorption and utilization is supported by the higher malondialdehyde (MDA) content, higher H2O2 content, and photoinhibitory quenching (qI) in HN treatment compared with MN treatment. A lower proportion of N in leaf was used to synthesize chlorophyll for Fgl compared with...
