As a result of industrialization or pollution, the soil and drinking water are contaminated with large amount of toxic heavy metals like Cd, Pb, Cr, Zn, Ni, As and Al. High concentration of these metals produce detrimental effect on ecosystem as a result of which food chain is also affected causing risk to human health. These metals affect the growth, physiology and germination of plant as they cause diseases like chlorosis, yellowing, reddening, wilting, and shortening of roots. From the literature survey, it was found that VAM fungi provide an appropriate and efficient system for environmental cleanup through the process of chelation. Therefore VAM and plant symbiotic relationship have the immense potential to extract heavy metals from soil. The process of chelation is different in both plant cells as well as VAM fungi. Basically hyper-accumulators have the ability to perform the process of mycoremedia...

Because of the multiple uses of Aloe Vera, and the easy growth and maintenance of the plant, many researchers of public and private sector have gained interest in this plant. Many novel and effective uses of Aloe Vera have come in light due to the researches on Aloe Vera in the field of biology, biochemistry and clinical studies. The beneficial effectiveness of Aloe in wound healing and being an anti-inflammatory is due to some constituents of Aloe that are involved in the healing process. According to the recent studies, the presence of mannose-6-phosphate, the important sugar in the Aloe gel, is mainly responsible for the wound healing properties of Aloe Vera, and thus considered its possibility of being an active growth substance. Scientist found an innovative and interesting usage of Aloe Vera gel as an edible coating on fruits and vegetables that act as the healthy preserva...

Milk can make a significant contribution to the required nutrient intakes for calcium, magnesium, selenium, riboflavin, vitamin B12 and pantothenic acid. Animal milk can play an important role in the diets of children in populations with very low fat intakes and limited access to other animal source foods. However, the high nutrient content of these milks, which includes proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids, all at a near neutral pH and at a high water activity, provides an ideal environment for the growth of many microorganisms. These microorganisms enter milk from a variety of sources and once in milk, can play a number of roles, such as facilitating dairy fermentations (e.g. Lactococcus, Lactobacillus, Streptococcus, Propionibacterium and fungal populations), causing spoilage (e.g. Pseudomonas, Clostridium, Bacillus and other spore...

It's important to understand the salt tolerance among different varieties of mungbean, combat the problem and to improve the Quality and production of the crop. Thus present study was framed to study mitigation of saline stress on mungbean by CaCl2 treatment in pot culture experiments. It was observed that in the presence of individual NaCl and CaCl2 treatment, the growth of plant was reduced with its some major changes in important stress related physiological contents (chlorophyll and carotenoids). In contrast combined treatment of NaCl and CaCl2 reduced saline stress in these plants, increased their growth and positively altered physiological contents like Proline content increased during stress and decreased during combined treatments of NaCl and CaCl2. Decrease in chlorophyll and carotenoids level was seen in the plants under separate NaCl an...

The industrial revolution followed by green revolution caused an increase in yield per unit area ... more The industrial revolution followed by green revolution caused an increase in yield per unit area in crop production, but they also increased the use of synthetic fertilizers in agriculture. Intensive inorganic fertilizer usage in agriculture causes so many health problems and unrecoverable environmental pollution. To reduce and eliminate the adverse effects of Synthetic fertilizers on human health and environment, new agricultural practices have been developed that all so-called organic agriculture. The organic fertilizers include peat, animal wastes, plant waste from agriculture, and treated sewage sludge whereas inorganic fertilizers include chemicals like ammonium nitrate, potassium chloride, urea, NPK etc. Inorganic fertilizers accumulate salt which expends more energy to draw water from the soil and cause them to appear wilted or dried out and if there is a rainfall shortly after they are applied them the fertilizers wash away and can pollute streams, ponds and other water bodies. It can also leach away from the root zone of the plant it may enter through the plant to the food chain and they get accumulated and harm us. The plants are an efficient source of basic nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium as well as secondary and micronutrients such as calcium, boron, magnesium, and manganese. High chlorophyll content, the high percentage of protein and carbohydrate indicates, better physiological and biochemical conditions. It is usually suggested that the use of organic fertilizers and amendments are eco-friendly. The effect of organic and chemical fertilizers occurs significantly on the biochemical performance like chlorophyll content, protein and carbohydrate concentration of the crop plant and highlights the prospects and potential of using organic fertilizers.

In the study two samples of different brands of packed fruit juice (Brand A and Brand B) were screened for total aerobic mesophilic bacterial counts, fungal count and the coliform counts. Samples were of acidic pH ranging from 4 to 6. Samples were found to harbor viable bacteria within the range between 10 1 -10 3 cfu/ml. However the total microbial counts were within acceptable standards for human consumption. These counts are suggestive of bacterial contamination of the packaged fruit juice during handling since they are liquid, which could have contributed to the development as well as multiplication of these contaminants. Drug resistance among the isolates was found against ampicillin and chloramphenicol.
