Participants were 790 customers from mobile telecommunication, retail banking, and the manufacturing sector of the Ghanian economy (female = 42%, age range = 18 to 65 years). The customers completed existing measures of corporate sustainability, green image, and customer loyalty. Data were analysed by performing structural equation modeling using SmartPLS. The path coefficient of the direct model indicated higher levels of environmental sustainability and economic sustainability were associated with higher levels of customer loyalty. The outcome of the indirect effect test indicated that green image of business organisations does not influence the relationship between economic and environmental sustainability and customer loyalty. Organisations should endeavor to implement robust and deliberate sustainability strategies to enrich the green orientation and reputation of firms to attract the attention and inputs of relevant stakeholders.

We used the qualitative research design through the case study approach, where 25 students with visual impairment (15 for Akropong School for the Blind, and 10 for Wa School for the Blind) were selected through purposive sampling technique. Data was collected through a semi-structured interview guide. The data was manually analysed thematically. Our findings show that students of the Akropong and Wa Schools for the Blind did not use the protective and sighted guide techniques effectively. However, students at Akropong School for the Blind used the sighted guide technique slightly better than their counterparts at the Wa School for the Blind. We conclude that students in both schools are experiencing challenges with the use of the protective and sighte...

A descriptive survey design was adopted using a sample of 235 tutors from 13 Colleges of Education in Ghana. The lottery method was used to select four regions out of the sixteen regions of the country and the purposive sampling technique was used to select all the colleges within the four regions, while convenience sampling technique was used to select the actual respondents for the study. Questionnaires with closed ended items were developed for the data collection. It was evident from the study that majority of the tutors believed that the curriculum prepares pre-service teachers to adapt the general school curriculum to accommodate the needs of a...

Timely and regular antenatal care (ANC) during pregnancy are essential for the early identification and management of potential risk factors associated with poor pregnancy outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the uptake of ANC services in the East Akim Municipality of Ghana and identify factors influencing ANC utilization. Methods: A cross-sectional study that employed stratified sampling methodology to select 310 women of reproductive age (15-49 years) in East Akim Municipality was conducted. A structured questionnaire was used to investigate the determinants of ANC utilization among respondents. Data were managed using Microsoft Excel 2016 and analysed using Stata version 14. Descriptive, bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed. Results: ANC attendance, at least once during pregnancy, was almost universal (98.4%)...

This study assesses the utilization, predictors, and gaps in the continuum of maternal and newborn health (MNH) services in Eastern Ghana. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional survey was conducted to assess utilization of MNH services and their determinants in the East Akim Municipality of Ghana. Three hundred and ten (310) mothers aged 15-49 years were sampled from 4 communities (3 rural; 1 urban) in the municipality using stratified sampling methodology. Logistic regression models were fitted to determine the likelihood of utilizing skilled birth attendance (SBA) and postnatal care (PNC) after antenatal care (ANC). Results: Sixty-six percent (66%) of mothers surveyed received the full complement of MNH services (ANC, SBA, PNC) for their most-recent birth. While 98% of mothers made at least one ANC visit with 83.5% r...

A goal of the mining industry is to achieve zero injury and occupational illness on all mine sites, prompting increased research into ways to further reduce mine accidents. A machine learning technique known as multiclass logistic regression is applied on a 10-year injury dataset from the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) to determine a miner’s susceptibility to a class of injury and to help identify significant risk factors associated with different classes of injury. The data is aggregated based on injury classification to provide statistically relevant results. The analysis identifies specific risk factors that influence a mine worker’s susceptibility to a given class of injury, i.e., non-fatal with no days lost or restricted activity, non-fatal with days lost and/or days of restricted work activity, and fatal and total permanent or partial permanent disability. These factors include miner’s age, mine type (coal vs. non-coal), experience on the current job (years), shift start time, employment type (operator vs. contractor), mining district, and type of accident. The results of the analysis indicate that a miner’s experience on the job, i.e., the number of years worked in a current job, is a significant risk to injury occurrence, even for those with decades of total mining experience. We further show the differences and similarities between the surface and underground mine incidents.

When the language is used in the context of communication, it gets connected with the culture by numerous bonds. The members of the society not only express their experience through the language. Rather they create it. Thus, the language expresses and embodies the cultural reality. The language of each society is, in fact, a part of its culture and reflects the important cultural features of the objects, institutions and actions of the given society. In order to understand the meaning of words, it is necessary to have social and individual perception. Thus, while investigating the interrelation between language and culture, it is necessary to take into account both psycholinguistic and ethnolinguistic approaches.

The participants were 407 employees of a mining company in Ghana (females = 41 .8%, manager = 41 .3%, mean age = 2 .13 years, SD = 0 .77 years). They completed existing measures of perceived organisational support, job stress, affective organisational commitment, affective occupational commitment, and turnover intention. Following mediated-moderated analysis, the results showed the employee's perceived job stress to mediate the relationship between POS and turnover intention. Additionally, affective organisational and occupational commitments moderated the relationship between job stress and turnover intention such that the relationship between job stress and turnover intention was less positive when affective commitments are high. From these findings, we conclude that providing employees with perceived organisational support will not only help reduce stress-related turnover intention, but may also help employees to develop an emotional attachment which will buffer the effect of stress on turnover intention .

There is therefore a proliferation of small scale mining (SSM) all over the country. The sector has, over the years, enjoyed heavy foreign investment financially and technologically; and, this has played a significant role in the viability of small-scale mining, leading to increased production and productivity. Consequently it has yielded significant benefits to the national development of Ghana. Associated with the extensive operations of SSM are serious environmental problems due to excessive contamination of water bodies with mercury and cyanide; land degradation; and dust pollution of the atmosphere. Issues of national security threats are of prime concern. Conflicts arise between large scale and small scale miners when the latter, claiming historical entitlement, tend to occupy certain portions of concessions over which la...

Consequently, adoption of improved technologies has been low, slow and uncertain. This study set out to examine factors that influence the adoption of livestock production technologies. One hundred and fifty (150) livestock farmers were randomly sampled from six communities in three districts of the region. The data was analysed using descriptive statistics and a logit regression model. The results showed that the low level of awareness of livestock production technologies have contributed to the low adoption by farmers. The logit regression results disclosed that the likelihood to adopt livestock production technology was significantly explained for 56% by extension contact, intent of producing livestock, number of children, herd size (for some animals species), source of stock, farm record keeping, education and gender. 44% of variation in adoption is therefore caused by other factors. It is recommended that any intervention to increase the adoption of livestock production technology should focus on creating greater awareness and also consider the specific policy variables that influence adoption.
