Evaluation trials of winter garlic rust occurrence and the disease severity have been conducted in five locations. Intensity of infection was evaluated 3 times. Simultaneously, leaf samples were collected for microscopic examination. In all locations during third decade of April individual uredosori sporadically occurred in garlic leaves, relatively early compared to its previous years occurrence. The highest rust rate was in third evaluation, when majority of plants were completely covered with uredosoris. Microscopic examination of uredosori, in all samples revealed physiologically mature urediniospores indicating a number of secondary infections.

Cannabis has been grown/utilized for thousands of years as a fiber, grain, and drug/medicinal plant. However, the strict control of cannabis cultivation to combat illegal use, the spread of new yarns and oilseeds, and the advent of cheap synthetic fibers caused a decreased/eliminated hemp production. Hemp has been banned in most of the world for more than seven decades; it missed out on the Green Revolution and the adoption of new technologies and varieties, creating a knowledge gap. After the 2014 and 2018 Farm Bill in the USA, hemp became legal and the land grand universities launched research programs. The ability to utilize the entire plant for multiple purposes creates opportunity for the market to value hemp products. Hemp production technology varies depending on the type of hemp cultivated (grain, fiber, or cannabinoids), soil characteristics...

The results showed that reduced crop density and pinching result in development of shorter plants. In denser non-pinched crops, the stem is over 180 cm high, while the plants start branching in the upper 1/4-1/5 part. In the non-pinched treatment with a larger area available for individual plants, as well as in the pinched treatments, more productive branches of less thickness develop in the lower parts. The non-pinched treatments generally produce higher stem and fiber yields, which increase when crop density is reduced. The obtained results can serve as a basis for determining certain treatments during the evaluation of production technology for different varieties of hemp intended for specific purposes.

Industrial hemp is currently witnessing a revival as a rich source of secondary metabolites. Several studies showed that hemp could be used in pest control. It has been documented that hemp could suppress weeds, harmful nematodes and soil pathogens and also could have allelopathic effects on some field crops (inhibitory or stimulatory). The aim of this study was to examine the effects of ethanol extracts of industrial hemp on activity of antioxidative enzymes, activity of enzymes of polyphenolic metabolism and intensity of lipid peroxidation in seedlings of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.). This survey was also conducted in order to evaluate the allelopathic activity of hemp extract on content of phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity of soybean seedlings. In the experiments the 70% ethanol extracts of dried flowering buds of hemp (cv. Helena) was app...

Spring garlic was examined. The objective was to examine the effect of plant density on photosynthesis productivity (LAR-Leaf Area Ratio, NAR-Net Assimilation Rate) and the yield of garlic. The analysis involved the following plant densities: 300 (G1), 450 (G2), 600 (G3), 750 (G4) and 900 (G5) thousand plants ha-1. The garlic exhibited better results in denser crop establishment. It is clearly indicated by the yield of garlic attained in the experiments. Average yield rates range from 5.6 (G1) to 12.5 t ha-1 (G5). The results demonstrate that the garlic should be grown in high density establishment.Beli luk je ispitan u poljskim ogledima koji su izvedeni u centralnom delu Srbije (Beograd). This two-year field study was undertaken to assess the effects of organic and conventional nutrient regimes on onion (Allium cepa L.) yield and several yield contributing characters, as well as to identify the traits that could be important when selecting genotypes attended for different production systems. The trial involved five commercially grown onion cultivars and four nutrient regimes: bacterial fertilizer, fully decomposed farmyard manure, without fertilization (organic) and NPK fertilization (conventional). Onion yield, bulb weight, number of bulbs plot-1 , number of days from sowing to emergence, vegetation period, plant height, neck diameter, neck length, bulb diameter, bulb height and bulb index have been analyzed. Significant differences concerning all analyzed traits have been found among the cultivars, treatments ...

The pumpkins are a part of the larger Cucurbita collection belonging to the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops from Novi Sad, where the two-year (2016, 2017) field trial was conducted. The accessions significantly differed in all analyzed parameters. The average values for the traits of agronomic importance were: yield per plant 3.56 kg, fruit weight 1.84 kg, number of fruits per plant 2.03, and anthesis date 180.29. Length of the main stem was in most cases short. Among fruit flesh quality parameters; the average dry weight content was 11.49%, sugars content 43.32 mg/g fresh weight, carotenoids content 50.12 mg/kg fresh weight, proteins content 4.04 mg/g fresh weight, total soluble solids content 8.63 ?Brix, refractive in...

In mid-1900s, the cultivation of this species as a forage crop led to its invasiveness (Peerzada et al., 2017). Yield losses it causes are up to 57-88% on very important agricultural and horticultural crops (Peerzada et al., 2017). It is highly tolerant to herbicides and rapid vegetative growth makes it difficult to control. Finding new methods that will help combat invasive species with less environmental impact is gaining importance. Allelopathy is very important for finding new compounds that can be used to combat invasive weeds (Arora et al., 2015). Allelochemicals are very important in relationship between plants and their environment (Cespedes et al., 2014). Moench] panicle yield formation. The performances of 11 broomcorn cultivars grown in eight different seasons are discussed in this paper. The restricted maximum likelihood (REML) variance component estimates model revealed that panicle yield was for the most part dependent on GEI (47.5%), which allowed identification of best genotypes for specific environments. The partial least squares regression (PLSR) model revealed that the most important climatic variables for optimal yield are precipitation in vegetation period and maximum air temperature in vegetation, followed by difference between maximum and minimum temperature in vegetation, growing degree days and sum of precipitation. Generally, lower temperature and higher precipitation parameters had benefi...

Research is increasingly focused on the finding of plant compounds that have allelopathic properties to weed species. The aim the study is to examine the allelopathic potential of Cannabis sativa L. essential oil in relation to the initial growth of the weed species of Chenopodium album L. The essential oil was obtained by the process of distillation of dry plant material collected during the ripening phase. The concentrations of essential oil were 200, 400, 600 and 800ml/l, while distilled water was used in the control. The parameters that were studied were the length of the hypocotyl and the length of the epicotyl C. album L. All investigated concentrations of essential oil exhibited an inhibitory effect. The average length of hypocotyl C. album L. in control was 2.67cm while in the smallest concentration it was 1.9cm. The average length of epicotyl C. album L. in control w...

Those were two varieties, NS-Futoški and Orion, and two local populations, Čuruški and Deronjski. The common characteristics of these cabbages are late maturation, fresh use in the fall and the pickling of whole heads and sauerkraut. The tender leaves in the head make these cabbages suitable for the uses mentioned above. Since cabbage pickling is practiced widely in Serbia, our aim was to investigate the chemical composition of the local cabbages, i.e., the contents of total sugars, dry matter and minerals. It was found that the sugar content in the heads ranged from 5.27% (NS-Futoški) to 6.33% (Orion). The dry matter content ranged from 8.07% (NS-Futoški) to 11.03% (Orion). The contents of minerals ranged as follows: Magnesium – from 88.7 mg/kg (NS-Futoški) to 143 mg/kg (Orion), Potassium – from 3003mg/kg (Orion) to 3772 mg/kg (Čuruški), Calcium – from 417.1 mg/kg (D...
