The result from MS and NMR analysis showed that the reaction between eugenol substrate and H 2 O 2 with crude extract enzyme produced a new chemical compound. The chemical structure of new compound showed coupled result in ortho-ortho position with C-C coupled derivative, dehydrodieugenol. It was obtained as brownish white crystal needles with yield 10%. This compound displayed higher cytotoxicity effect on T47D breast cancer cell compared to the eugenol monomer.
Preparation process of 2-aminoethylsulfonic acid (taurine) from ethanolamine, sulfuric acid and s... more Preparation process of 2-aminoethylsulfonic acid (taurine) from ethanolamine, sulfuric acid and sodium sulfite has been studied. The process involves two steps of reactions, the first was esterification of ethanolamine (H 2 N-CH 2-CH 2-OH) with sulfuric acid to produce the intermediate product of 2-aminoethyl ester (H 2 N-CH 2-CH 2-OSO 3 H) which then was extended to the second step by sulfonation with sodium sulfite to produce 2-aminoethylsulfonic acid (H 2 N-CH 2-CH 2-SO 3 H). These two process conditions were observed by varying mole ratio of reactants, temperature and time period of reactions. Taurine product was qualitatively analyzed using 1 H-NMR and LC-MS. Physical-chemical analysis were done by observing its melting point and determining its water, chloride and sulfate contents. Its melting point, water content, and sulfate content were 290 o C, 0.303%, and 3 ppm, respectively, while its chloride content was undetected. After purification, the yield of process was 25.57%.

This study was aimed to investigate the chemical constituents of methanol extracts of selected Indonesian marine sponges (Callyspongia sp., Clathria sp., Melophlus sarasinorum, and Xestospongia sp.), collected from the Saponda Islands, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia as well as to evaluate their antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. Methods: LCMS/MS analysis used to identify the compounds. Agar well diffusion and DPPH assays were used to evaluate the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. Results: Chemical screening reported alkaloids, terpenoids, steroids, and saponins from all investigated sponges. The LC-MS/MS analysis identified various compounds which mainly contained steroids. Antimicrobial activity (against Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, and Candida albicans) was only shown by the Xestospongia sp. extract. Meanwhile, extracts of M. sarasin...

The study aimed to determine the effects of air-drying (AD) and oven drying (OD) of the young R. fraxinifolius leaves and compare them to the fresh leaves (FL) to observe the phytochemical content and bioactivities. Phytochemical contents of the samples were determined based on qualitative assay, total phenolics, and total flavonoid, whereas bioactivities were evaluated on antioxidant DPPH free radical scavenging effect, α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, and antibacterial assays. LCMS-MS was used for the quantitative investigation of naturally occurring phytochemicals. The methanol exttract of FL had the highest free radical scavenging activity against DPPH with IC50of 45.51± 5.03µg/mL, total phenolic content (25.35 ± 1.06 mg GAE/100 mg extract), and total flavonoid content (28.71 ± 2.07 equivalent quercetin mg/ 100 mg extract) compared to those of AD and OD. How...

Subsequently, prospective virtual screen campaigns on eugenol analogs and their dimers were performed and have discovered 3,3'-diallyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diol analogs of eugenol as the most potential ERα fragment to be further developed. This article presents the design of 3,3'-diallyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diol analogs of eugenol based on the comparison between the docked poses of ZINC01914469 as a reference compound and 3,3'-diallyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diol analogs of eugenol. The designed compounds were selected based on the docking score using the validated SBVS protocols. The docking scores of the selected compounds revealed that these compounds were statistically similar or better than ZINC01914469.

The objective of this study is to investigate the potential of various gambiers available in Indonesian market as a scavenger of reactive free radicals and evaluate its anti-hyperglycemic activity as αglucosidase inhibitor. Isolation of catechin was done by extraction method with technical grade of ethyl acetate as solvent. Analysis of catechin in the dried gambier extract was carried out with TLC method. The molecular weight and content of catechin of dried gambier extract was determined by analyzing its mass spectra and spectrophotometer, respectively. The free radical scavenging activity of catechin of the resultant extracts was measured by using 1,1diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) as stable free radical compound. The anti-hyperglycemic activity of catechin of ethyl acetate extracts was analyzed as α-glucosidase inhibitor. The result showed that various gambiers available in the market are very active as antioxidant, indicated by IC 50 of catechin of ethyl acetate extracts which were 4.6 to 18.2 μg/mL for DPPH inhibition. The IC 50 for α-glucosidase inhibition is ranged from 40.45 to 52.43 μg/mL, so they can be classified as anti-diabetic.
