Over two years 30108 babies were tested. Thirty one babies were recalled because of thyroid stimulating hormone concentrations greater than 40 mU/l, of whom 12 were treated with replacement thyroxine. Six babies were found to have low thyroxine concentrations because of reduced thyroxine binding globulin and five raised thyroxine values because of increased thyroxine binding globulin. As a result of this study screening was continued with measurement of thyroid stimulating hormone only as the primary test for congenital hypothyroidism, the thyroxine value being measured only when the concentration of thyroid stimulating hormone exceeded 20 mU/l.

Implant-prosthetic therapy is the optimal treatment solution from a biological, functional and biomechanical point of view. Interdisciplinary management of implant-prosthetic therapy frequently involves the reconstruction of alveolar ridges in the pro-implant stage. The specialists in implantology and dento-alveolar surgery face the issue of the selection of grafting materials and techniques in relation to systemic, loco-regional, local factors and the planned prosthetic solution. In this context, a practical guide for the use of grafting materials and techniques may be useful to practitioners in order to optimize the aesthetic and functional results in the implant-prosthetic therapy of edentulous patients.

As dental caries is a common disease with high prevalence worldwide, many researches are focused nowadays on the longevity of direct composite restorations and indirect restorations both in the anterior and posterior dental substance loss. The mean survival rates of the direct composite restorations, after follow-up period of 3-10 years, are between 85,10% and 97,40%. The mean survival rates of the indirect coronal restorations, after follow-up period of 8-10 years, are between 90,40% and 100%. In the recovery of the esthetic and masticatory functions affected by coronal substance loss, the direct composite restorations and ceramic inlays or onlays have advantages and limits. The dentists must focus on factors related to material and technique as well as on clinical and biological factors, when a repair versus replacement decision must be taken

Cultural factors related to oral health include concepts regarding ethiological factors and dental treatment, race, geographic area, family habits and influence, gender factor, socioeconomic factors, nutritional factors, and cultural beliefs and taboos. Unfavourable anthropological factors are associated both with high prevalence of the edentation in Romania and difficulties to apply the most appropriate prosthetic solutions for the long term success. Romania has a close collaboration with WHO (project Oral Health Programme) to initiate programs, focused on various cultural and demographic factors, aiming to improve the oral health status

PRODENT Acad Expert (data recording and database) and PRODENT Indices (calculation of biological indices and recommendation for the optimal treatment solution) (Neo-Tech, Romania) are tools that allows the registration and entry of data in the database, registration of clinical and biological indices in pretreatment and post-implant stage, respectively the recommendation of an optimal prosthetic solution. It was demonstrated the increase of the blood supply in neuronal areas during mastication due to the stimulation of dental baroreceptors, alveolar baroreceptors and masticatory muscles during. Chewing was associated with greater alertness, more positive mood, faster reaction times, improved focus as well as with the improvement of the learning ability. On the other part, epidemiologic studies found that elderly individuals with high number of absent teeth are more likely to develop cognitive dysfunction, and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer and dementia.

Since the quantitative relationship between food principles is an important prophylactic factor of health, qualitative research in the form of theoretical review of specialty literature and experimental case studies has been carried out, with the aim of highlighting the roles of food principles for the prophylaxis of oral lesions, tooth decay and general oral health. The conclusions converge to the unsurprising perspective that the lack of dietary principles, the lack of proteins, for example, during the development of dental enamel matrix, favors the appearance of caries, while an excess of lipids decrease their incidence. Exogenous prophylaxis through diet of tooth decay is achieved by eating foods with increased consistency, which have a mechanical brushing role. Diet must be balanced by dietary principles: low in refined sugars and rich in vi...

Various prosthetic solutions can be proposed for these clinical situations, including fixed bridges, hybrid prosthesis, or implant-prosthetic rehabilitation. Financial reasons or abutment teeth affected by severe periodontal disease, can conduct to the replacement of these prosthetic solutions with removable dentures but the oral hygiene as well as the period of adaptation and restoration of functions are more difficult. Pro-prosthetic treatments, crown lengthening and surgery procedures (augmentation associated or not to guided bone regeneration technique) on the level of the alveolar ridge, must be considered to improve the biological and clinical indices of the prosthetic area. The decisional processes are dealing with a great number of variables which need beeing evaluated and correlated with clinical factors, technological solutions, financial costs and patients' demands.

It is rarely found in an isolated form, most of the time being associated with genetic syndromes such as ectodermal dysplasia. Ectodermal dysplasia is a rare genetic disorder, with recessive transmission linked to X chromosome, characterized by the triad: hypo-/anhydrosis, hypo-/anodontia and hypotricosis/hair loss. Anodontia can be complete or partial (hypodontia, oligodontia). These anomalies of dentition may interest both primary and permanent dentition. In this paper, we present a series of eight cases identified based on clinical criteria, with the diagnosis of ectodermal dysplasia, at the “Alessandrescu-Rusescu” National Institute for Mother and Child Health, from Bucharest. The management of the patient with ectodermal dysplasia is complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach (pediatrician, geneticist, dentist, psychologist). Dental surgery and prosthetics (dental plaque ...

Founding/cosmogonic myths have supported, in the consciousness of humanity, the feeling of belonging to nature as a place of genesis and the becoming of man. Thus, the development of human habitats was done with the decline of the natural environment and at the expense of the alienation of man from nature.
