The contribution presents this find, its context and likely parallels, the mineralogical-petrographic composition of the stucco, type of the pigments used, as well as the rock of the plinth and its provenance. Of the shaft, only the stucco survives, applied in four mortar layers and painted in red ochre, while its interior surface shows the impressions of reeds. The plinth is a rectangular block made of locally available Lower Jurassic oolitic limestone, presumably from Podpeč. The column may have formed part of a porticus or peristyle, possibly associated with a pool or a bath complex in this part of Late Roman Emona.

This quarry complex represented the main source of stone blocks and unfinished products with which Sirmium was supplied between the 2nd and 5th centuries. The quarry lies 90 km southwards and is connected to the town by way of the Drina and Sava Rivers. The quarry area has a specific geologic composition with several lithotypes, of which at least two (Lt I and III) were established also by the macro- and microscopic analysis of monuments kept at the Museum of Srem in Sremska Mitrovica. Exploration of the quarry revealed traces of extraction, which enable a reconstruction of the extraction process, and unfinished products, mostly sarcophagi
The Roman settlement in the modern town of Ajdovščina stood at the main road connecting Aquileia ... more The Roman settlement in the modern town of Ajdovščina stood at the main road connecting Aquileia and Emona and is believed to have been established in the 1st century BC. It is called Fluvio Frigido in the 3rd-century Antonine Itinerary and Tabula Peutingeriana, while the Jerusalem Itinerary from the 4th century marks it as mutatio Castra. Archaeological investigations have shown that the Roman settlement of the 1st and 2nd centuries extended across the medieval centre of Ajdovščina and a good part of the surrounding area. Funerary monuments mention Roman citizens, freedmen and members of higher classes, as well as individuals of indigenous origin who acquired Roman citizenship and held various administrative offices. In the late 3rd century, a fortification wall with towers – Castra – was constructed at the confluence of the Hubelj and Lokavšček streams. This fortress played an important role within the Claustra Alpium Iuliarum barrier system and the recovered small finds confirm the presence of an army garrison. Life in the fortress and its vicinity continued, albeit to a diminished extent, to the second half of the 5th century, with early medieval habitations even in the 6th and 7th centuries. Keywords: Italy,(Regio X), Ajdovščina, Fluvio Frigido, Castra, Roman period, settlement, fortress, mansio/statio, Claustra Alpium Iuliarum

It is composed of a closed, probably two-tiered, socle with an accentuated vertical division, an open upper storey with a canopy in its interior, and covered by a gabled roof. It takes the form of an aedicula tomb, more precisely an aedicula tomb with several intercolumniations and a portico. Its particular feature, however, is the form of the upper storey. This shows a combination of two types of funerary monuments, and aedicula and a baldachin tomb, combined here in a single tomb.

They are held, at present, mostly in the Museum of Srem and partly (16 altars) at various institutions and office buildings across Sremska Mitrovica. 3 In all, there were 80 votive altars uncovered at the temple, of which 79 bore inscriptions of beneficiarii and formed the subject of the publication of M. Mirkovi}. 4 A single altar fragment remained unpublished, which we were not able to identify in our survey of the museum.

Ta namreč kaže kombinacijo dveh tipov nagrobne arhitekture, edikule in baldahina, združenih v eni grobnici.
