Patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 are at risk for developing respiratory failure and requiring admission to critical care units. While providing optimal treatment for these patients, careful execution of infection control measures is necessary to prevent nosocomial transmission to other patients and to health workers providing care.1 In the operating room, these preparations involve multiple stakeholders and can present a significant challenge. Here we described the measures for the outbreak adopted by the anesthesia department of a private tertiary care level hospital in Porto. These include engineering controls such as: identification and preparation of an isolation operating rooms, administrative measures such as: modification of workflow and processes, introduction of personal protective equipment, and formulation of clinical guidelines for anaes...

Sometimes the complications that may appear in the arteriovenous fistula are neglected following kidney transplantation. This is the reason why we are presenting the case of an angiosarcoma developing in an arteriovenous fistula after kidney transplantation. It is a very rare case and our goal is to create an alarm so that after kidney transplantation clinicians do not lose sight of the patients' previous history.

In challenging deepwater drilling frontiers in which risks, nonproductive time (NPT), and associated costs are most substantial, the optimum drilling solution uses vessels equipped for managed pressure drilling (MPD). Land operators traditionally rely on MPD technology as a contingency plan to overcome obstacles; however, deepwater operators tend to be more reluctant to adopt this practice because of the belief that cost of installation exceeds the cost of setbacks. On the contrary, MPD technologies enable the operator to significantly reduce fluid losses, NPT, and costs associated with wellbore-related pressure events. In fact, one example is the corrective responsiveness provided by the MPD variants of pressurized mud-cap drilling (PMCD) and floating mud-cap drilling (FMCD) can reduce costs associated with fluid losses by up to 40%. This paper will evaluate the e...

SANGUINATE is a carbon monoxide releasing molecule and oxygen transfer agent under clinical development for the treatment of sickle cell anemia and comorbidities. Methods: An open-label randomized Phase Ib study was performed in adult sickle cell anemia patients. Two dose levels of SANGUINATE were compared to hydroxyurea in 24 homozygotes for Hb SS. Twelve subjects received either a low dose (160 mg/kg) of SANGUINATE or 15 mg/kg hydroxyurea. Another 12 subjects received either a high dose (320 mg/kg) of SAN-GUINATE or 15 mg/kg hydroxyurea. The primary endpoint was the safety of SANGUINATE versus hydroxyurea in sickle cell anemia patients. Secondary endpoints included determination of the plasma pharmacokinetics and assessment of hematologic measurements. Results: Musculoskeletal related adverse events were the most common. Transient troponin I levels increased in three patients, one of whom had an increase in tricuspid regurgitant velocity; however, no clinical signs were noted. Following an assessment of vital signs, tricuspid regurgitant velocity, electrocardiogram, serum biochemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and analysis of reported adverse events, SANGUINATE was found to be safe in stable sickle cell anemia patients. Conclusions: The clinical trial met its primary objective of demonstrating an acceptable safety profile for SANGUINATE in patients with sickle cell anemia. This trial established the safety of SANGUINATE at both dose levels and permitted its advance to Phase II trials.

A la Serena la majoria de les preses eren rèptils i aràcnids (n=25). Totes les preses estaven empalades en filferro espinós, probablement a causa de la manca d'arbres i arbusts a la zona. A

Data were obtained on the roles of male and female Red-backed Shrikes in prey storing by watching three pairs during their breeding in Northwestern Spain. During the care of nestlings and fledglings, both the male and the female stored important amounts of prey.
