As such, the current study will accomplish the first part of the project aims, i.e. to identify the soft skill needs in the partner countries in terms of communication, hospital environment, transparency of communication, time management and intercultural issues The survey findings will eventually conduct to enhancement of paediatric education and services by improving communication with child patients and their families, communication within the medical team and communication across cultures.

Since representational visual grammar has limited chances of rendering additional meanings and commendatory connotations, visual metaphors represent a staple pursuit in print IT advertising with predominance of abstract versus concrete metaphors. Although concrete metaphors are easier to comprehend than their abstract counterparts, the latter are preferred as they are anchored (explained) in, and substantiate either the headline or the copy grammar message, guiding the reader/consumer unerringly towards the intended closures.

However, technology-enhanced language learning can be perceived as time consuming and difficult by some of the students. Therefore, feedback from course participants (Feedback on teaching, FoT) is crucial in language learning as it is in any quality optimization endeavour. The current paper will present the empirical results of ESP writing with second year students (N=36) in Dental Medicine of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Tirgu Mures (Hungarian line) who contributed for one semester to an asynchronous English writing project (Blog writing – BR). Students’ FoT perceptions based on variables such as convenience of delivery, strengths, challenges and pref...

This study reflects on a task-based action research intervention focusing on asynchronous Facebook (FB)-integrated professional communication for Medical English (ME). The purpose of the study was to understand if and how FB-integrated learning could be successfully customised to Medical English in order to provide further asynchronous communication to medical students and to evaluate their opinions in terms of its “usefulness” and “satisfaction”. Methods: Online class observation, rubric-based assessment of students’ productions, a Google form questionnaire and informal class discussions were selected for data collection. Main Argument: Specific Medical English task elements (peer evaluation) and factors (communication versus accuracy) could influence the students’ performance, satisfaction, and motivation in FB-based ME communication. Conclusion: Incorporation of Facebo...

Edmodo-enhanced self-access learning can be customized to accommodate different learning styles, form basic learning skills and field-specific subskills, extend and expand the students’ medical language use, while also meeting the desiderata of independent curriculum-stipulated learning that can thus be exploited and demonstrated. The paper will reflect on the design of ME multimedia assignments as well as the quantitative and qualitative results, motivation and attitude of a group of medical students working on Edmodo self-access ME learning as part of a class research project for two years.

Class-size Voice-Thread and Blogger-based non-mandatory projects were conducted with general and dental medicine students in two consecutive years for one semester each, with significantly improved outcomes in terms of extension of the writing and speaking time in the target language, motivation and engagement levels as well as confidence and awareness of one’s competence.

The project aims to strengthen the intercultural communication competencies of adult educators who work in various formal and non-formal educational settings in order to help them to overcome the challenges arising from their everyday work with multicultural and multilingual learners. The paper presents the project's objectives and activities and gives insights into the research findings on multiculturalism in adult education in Romania.

Our case study will reflect on using the Edmodo Assignment feature as an ePortfolio of EFL student productions and progress. Written productions, speaking and listening contributions, which would be otherwise rather difficult to process and assess in real time, are accommodated by the platform and contribute to a finer assessment process. The outcomes and qualitative results of employing the Edmodo EFL portfolio for a mixed-ability group of undergraduate Geography of Tourism students, for two-semesters, are presented.

The study emphasizes the general effects of bilingualism on cognitive development and highlights the specific effects of bilingualism on third language acquisition. First, it focuses on the specific effects of bilingualism on third language proficiency by discussing the results of the research conducted in three different universities, and then it examines the effects of bilingualism on awareness and communicative skills.

Qualitative results of this first-time experimentation with voice tools in Medical English (ME) demonstrate that VT application contributes to a more learning-oriented assessment process. It empowers students to work autonomously, create rather than consume, and allows them to reflect on their own language production, which are essential in any formative assessment.

Edmodo (edmodo.com) served as the platform for course delivery in order to offer them customized, higher quality learning experiences. The paper will present several skills-integrated activities carried out in Edmodo, results obtained but also challenges in designing authentic assignments while meeting the students` particular needs and keeping them genuinely involved. If students` grades reflected a superior learning experience, in order to evaluate their attitudes and satisfaction with Edmodo-EMP, which are equally important elements for providing quality language services, a ten-item questionnaire was designed and administered as part of their final assignment. Students reflected on how much and what they felt they had learnt, if the materials raised up to their expectations, and if they perceived Edmodo-based l...

This paper is based on several advertisements taken from magazines such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, on the one hand, and FHM and MAXIM on the other. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that many of the messages present in advertising help perpetuate negative stereotypes about women and enforce traditional gender roles.
