The paper presents the steps in elaborating this strategy. Because of the rapid dynamics in the evolution of landscapes, an inventory of landscapes and their elements must be done first, followed by the elaboration of a legislation with special reference to the protection of the geographical landscapes. In the protection and valorization strategy, a primordial place comes to the development of some networks of actors, from which responsibility factors coming from local and regional administration, NGOs and research units must take part into.

This study is part of a larger analysis of the changes of the cultural landscapes in the Hârtibaciu River Basin. Regarding the lacustrine landscape present in the village of Brădeni, we encounter massive changes in the landscape. The lakes were edified in the communist period with two main purposes: flooding prevention and pisciculture. In the last quarter-century the lakes administrations ignored the cleaning activities and the cutting of the water vegetation consisting mainly from reed and cattail, so that the lakes are at risk of full coverage with this species of plants. The progress of the degradation is analysed on different Landsat images. The conclusions suggest some solutions for an economic development with the harvesting of reed in concordance with the preservation of the species as part of Natura 2000 site.

The equipment used in the implementation of the project are side-scan sonar, seismic radar, scuba diver recognitions. For a tangible perception of the discovered cultural patrimony on the bottom of the river, 3D models and projections will be created: these reconstructions of the submerged sites will add an immeasurable value to the area and to the whole Danube Region. The case study is focusing on the Iron Gates area. The recovery of previously unexplored submerged cultural heritage will foster knowledge on cultural heritage and history of Europe, with the goal of preserving and promoting the value of the sites on local, regional, national and international level.
