The growing numbers of master's programs announcing a home health care component are creating a diversity of preparation outcomes. The level of knowledge and breadth of perspective demanded by the clinician, manager, and administrator in home care is complex and requires concentrated program development on the master's level and a strong integration of content and practicum experience for undergraduate students. Education must know its product line and be sensitive to the persistent trends and demands of the consumers of its graduates. Agencies must communicate the need for adequate preparation to the educational setting. A collaborative approach in resolving the supply and demand cycle for nurses capable of operating in and directing the resources of ...

Published literature highlights the troubling influence of bullying on well-being and productivity not only of targeted victims but also, bystanders and workplaces as wholes. A paucity of research addresses effective workplace bullying interventions. This paper describes the utility of the Jesuit notion of the magis in building an academic culture that can anticipate and forestall workplace bullying behaviors and that can serve to structure interventions in cases where bullying behaviors actually get a foothold.

The report calls for a paradigm shift in how nursing leaders in academia and practice work together and with other leaders in higher education and clinical practice. Only by doing so can we realize the full benefits of academic nursing in this new era in which integration and collaboration are essential to success. In this paper we: 1) examine how academic nursing can contribute to healthcare innovation across environments; 2) explore leadership skills for deans of nursing to advance the goals of academic nursing in collaboration with clinical nursing partners, other health professions and clinical service leaders, academic administrators, and community members; and, 3) consider how governance structures and policy initiatives can advance this work.

ABSTRACT Traditional educational approaches and curriculum for advanced practice public health nu... more ABSTRACT Traditional educational approaches and curriculum for advanced practice public health nursing (APPHN) are being challenged by the complexities of today's public health problems and the growing body of scientific knowledge framing public health issues. The recent Association of Community Health Nursing Educators' (ACHNE) position paper, Graduate Education for Advanced Practice Public Health Nursing, challenges nurse educators to apply innovative strategies in preparing public health nursing professionals in the 21st century, and to expand curriculum paradigms to promote public health nursing's ecological approach to solving problems. To advance public health as a specialty in nursing, ACHNE endorsed the Doctorate of Nursing Practice as a terminal degree for advanced nursing practice. However, the preparation and marketability of doctorally prepared APPHNs may be influenced by several factors and moving the terminal practice degree to the doctoral level will be an evolutionary process that might follow multiple pathways and challenges. The presentation will focus on this evolutionary process and the approaches for educational programs in preparing the APPHN at the doctoral level. Implementation models include those for master's and doctoral degree granting institutions, as well as options for a certificate curriculum contributing to the APPHN terminal degree. Collaborative educational models, such as ones with schools of public health and other colleges of nursing, provide opportunities to develop new programs, help students to attain doctoral education, and meet a PHN leadership workforce need regardless of geographic boundaries and distribution.
