Comparative Study of Preservation Methods in Three Selected Hotels in Bayelsa State, Nigeria

The study is geared towards comparing electronic preservation methods in three selected hotels in... more The study is geared towards comparing electronic preservation methods in three selected hotels in Bayelsa State. Four research objectives were formulated to guide the study bordering on the types of records created, kept, and maintained by the selected hotels. Their records retention policies, their electronic preservation methods, and challenges encountered in the preservation of their records. Works of literature related to the objectives of the study were reviewed. The study population comprised a total of 18 personnel in the three selected hotels in Bayelsa state (6 staff in Majels Hotels, 6 in Engoye Hotels, and 6 in De-Alamis Hotels); they are both in the senior and junior categories responsible for handling records in the hotels. From the study population of 18, a Total Enumerative Sampling Technique was used; this implies that the entire population of 18 was used for the study. This study examined the relationship between information needs and seeking behavior of researcher... more This study examined the relationship between information needs and seeking behavior of researchers at the African Regional Aquaculture Centre (ARAC), Rivers State. The population of the study was made up of thirty-four researchers at ARAC, Buguma, Rivers State. The study employed a correlational- Descriptive research design. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire titled ‘Questionnaire on Information Needs and Seeking Behaviour of ARAC Researcher (QINSB)’ whose reliability index calculated using Cronbach alpha was 0.922. The collated data from the responses of the respondents was organized using count/frequency, percentages and mean. The data was analysed using Pearson Product Moment Correlational statistical analysis. The findings indicated that a positive significant relationship exist between information needs for breeding, information needs for fish processing and information seeking behavior of researchers at the African Regional Aquaculture centre. This study reports on the assessment of ICT competencies among librarians in university libraries... more This study reports on the assessment of ICT competencies among librarians in university libraries in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The reason that necessitated this study was based on the enormous range of tasks which librarians are saddled with in rendering services to users of libraries, thus requiring adequate knowledge and skills to use ICT. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A population of 72 librarians in four university libraries in Bayelsa State was used for the study. A questionnaire was the instrument for data collection, based on a five-point Likert scale used to measure the ICT competencies of respondents. Data collected were analysed using frequency distribution. The study was carried out using a correlational design. Three research questions, three objectives guided the study and three null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population of the study was 55 librarians in four academic libraries in Rivers State. A census sampling technique was used for this study, where all the 55 librarians were used as respondents. The objectives of the paper were to: identify the features of an effective teacher in primary schools, identify library resources available for teachers and examine areas where teachers utilize library resources for teaching in Rivers State Primary schools. Ninety (90) primary school teachers were randomly selected from the three senatorial districts of Rivers State and were used as the sample size of the study.
