The study makes use of quality control tools and arrives at the fact that quality has a direct impact on service. The outcome of the study is the process chart, which can help restaurants to maintain and increase their quality ratings. The process chart also provides both consumers and industry watchers a means for monitoring quality on a timely basis using objective performance related data. Many service organizations such as airlines, banks, and hotels have well developed quality assurance systems. Most of them are, however, generally based on manufacturing analogies and tend to be more product-oriented than service-oriented. However, service organizations have special requirements that manufacturing systems cannot fulfill. The most significant aspect of service deliveryisthat it is typically measured at the customer interfa...

There are also people in our lives who are aware of those goals, and encourage us and support us to continue regardless of the obstacles. It is now that I can formally thank those people for doing just that for me. First and foremost, I want to sincerely thank my supervisors, Dr. Grace Nyagah and Dr. Rose Obae. Dr. Grace Nyagah encouraged, supported and facilitated this study in many aspects, both as my supervisor and as the Chairman of the department, while Dr. Obae supported, guided and encouraged me throughout the duration of my work on this thesis. I would like to thank the four most important people in my life: Faith Wanjiku my dear wife, Victor Gathumbi, Ian Njuguna and Perpetua Muthu, our wonderful children. I have set goals for myself because of them. In fact, my life revolves around them, and many decisions in my professional life were made with them as a major priority in the decision-making process. My success is theirs. I also wish to thank the directors, teachers and learners of the Non Formal Education (NFE) centres in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu cities for providing me with data for this study. Despite the efforts, attaining Education for All (EFA) has remained elusive. The reality of out-of-school children prompted individuals and organizations to initiate non formal education (NFE). Upon recognition of NFE as a viable means of providing education to the OOS children, the then Kenya Institute of Education (KIE) (now Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development [KICD]) developed the Non-formal Basic Education Curriculum (NFBEC) to be used by the Non-Formal Education Centres (NFECs) in Kenya. This study aimed at assessing the influence of teacher characteristics on NFBEC implementation in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu urban centres. The study specifically sought to assess how teachers' professional training and in-servicing influenced the implementation of NFE basic Education curriculum and secondly establish how teacher characteristics such as gender, age, duration of service at the NFE centre and marital status and level of education influenced the implementation of NFE basic Education curriculum. The study employed cross sectional survey design. The sample size comprised of 96 teachers and 36 directors of the NFE centres. Data was collected by use of questionnaires. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis were used in analyzing data. The findings of the study revealed that implementation of the NFE curriculum was hampered by factors such as inadequate teachers, lack of training, and lack of in-servicing and lack of professional training. The study also revealed that gender of the teachers statistically influenced learner completion (p =0.01). The study concluded that if more female teachers were employed, they could significantly improve learner completion rates. Age of the teachers also statistically influenced completion rates (p=0.05) which implied that older teachers were more likely to increase learner completion. The level of education was statistically significant in influencing learner completion (p = 0.02). This meant that if more teachers were trained, they could positively learner completion. The study recommended that the Ministry of Education should consider financing the NFE which is currently being supported by a variety of sponsors. Once this is done, the centres will have the necessary requirements for effective implementation of the curriculum. That Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) should prepare programmes for in-servicing NFE teachers on the NFE curriculum. The government should also consider posting teachers to the NFE centers. Lastly teacher training colleges and universities training teachers should consider introducing programs meant for teachers for the NFE curriculum.

The study employed descriptive survey research design. The sample comprised of 20 principals, 46 teachers and 197 students who were selected by simple random sampling. Data in the study was collected using questionnaires and descriptive statistics method was used for evaluating headteachers' transformative leadership styles on teachers' job satisfaction. Findings revealed that the principals encouraged open door policy for students to discuss their issues with them, the principals consulted with students before any changes are made to the diet provided by the school and also allowed students to have a say in determining the dress code of the school. Further, the principals set aside specific day(s) in a week for meetings with the students to discuss matters pertaining to the running and of the school. Pearson correlation coefficients computed to find out the relationships between principals leadership practices and student discipline generated strong negative correlation coefficients of r=-0.961 with corresponding significant level (p-value = 0.000<0.05) hence there was significant relationship between principals' consultation of the student council and the number of students' disciplinary cases in school. The study established that principals in their respective secondary schools encouraged open door policy where students were free to see the head of the institution to discuss their problems. The study thus recommends that principals should adopt leadership skills and mechanisms which are aimed at minimizing instances of students' indiscipline. Schools should organize for seminars and workshops for student leaders to acquire skills necessary to help reduce instances of indiscipline in the schools. Principals should adopt collaborative approach which brings all school stakeholders to help address students' indiscipline. Rules for the membership to the student council should be flexible for all students so that they can appreciate and support the students'councils' leadership.

The study sought to determine the factors that affect the implementation of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Programme in Imenti South District. Data were collected from a sample of 297 respondents comprising of ECDE teachers and CMC members. The instruments for data collection were questionnaires for ECDE teachers, focus group discussion for CMC members and observation schedules. The validity of the instruments was established through piloting and expert opinions. A reliability coefficient of 0.81 for ECDE teacher’s questionnaires was obtained using Spearman Brown Formula. The findings indicated that parents had a positive attitude towards ECDE programmes. The study recommends that the Government should provide the required physical facilities and teaching and learning materials to enable proper implementation of ECDE programme and ensure that the centers have the required ECDE teachers. The findings will also help the education managers to understand the challenges faced by ECDE sub-sector and help it to acquire its rightful status.
