This paper investigates the emission of such distortions by PV inverters installed in a Brazilian solar farm. High-resolution measurements are performed on three different commercial inverters, with 15 kVA rated capacity each. Results obtained from the specific measurements presented in this paper reveal HFH current distortions may reach up to 2% of fundamental frequency current, whereas HFH voltages remain below 0.2% of fundamental frequency voltage. Therefore, results suggest HFH distortions emitted by these specific PV inverters are unlikely to cause significant problems to the utility.

A lot of technological solutions, involving telecommunications, energy storage, dispersed generation (DG) with alternative sources and another usual electric generation, are in large scale implementation. Moreover, Microgrids (MG) concept is in large discussion in order to obtain better results in operation and management of this new distribution system. Local black start strategies are one of the most important implementation for that new kind of grid. In the first phase of the R&D project developed with CPFL, one Brazilian electric utility, inside of the environment of ANEEL, the Brazilian Regulatory Agency to the electric system, it was made a study concerning the technologies of distributed micro generators and connection requirements. Models and control strategies simulations have been done in order to reproduce the performance of this energy sources when con...

Este artigo demonstra a modelagem ABSTRACT: Two-stage isolated converters for photovoltaic (PV) applications commonly employ a high-frequency transformer on the DC-DC side, submitting the DC-AC converter switches to high voltages and forcing the use of IGBTs instead of low-voltage and low-loss MOSFETs. This paper shows the modeling, control and simulation of a single-phase full-bridge inverter with high-frequency transformer that may be used as part of a two-stage converter with transformerless DC-DC side or as a single-stage converter (simple DC-AC converter) for grid-connected PV applications. Simulations and experimental results with a 200 W prototype are shown.

The evaluated system is a 1 MVA centralized PV plant with different technologies of photovoltaic panels and inverters. The power quality measurement was made in accordance with the Brazilian and international power quality regulation. The magnitudes measured were voltage, current, power, power factor, unbalance and harmonic distortion. Additionally with the results of the measurements was evaluated the behavior of the inverters in different power demand situations. The inverter response for low power generation periods was worse than for high power generation periods. In photovoltaic system, low power periods occur at sunrise and sunset. Along these periods, high current harmonic distortion and low power factor levels were monitored. The results and analysis presented in this work contribute with the evaluation of the impact of large scale PV systems upon the power quality of the electric grid and the behavior of the commercial inverters for difference power generation levels.

The models were developed from laboratory tests results using black box models and classical control theory. In the laboratory test setup the sources were connected between them and with resistive electrical loads by a switch and a measurement system. Different operational test conditions were executed and the models were validated for these conditions. Simulations results were compared with laboratory results and the models validated by the multiple correlation coefficient. The aim of this work is to show a methodology that may be used for modeling the dynamics of these DG technologies from basic datasheet information and current and voltage signals acquired at access system points, when specific information about the controllers of DG sources and electronic converters it is not available. This models could be used for evaluates the DG impacts in the stability and protection of electrical distribution conventional systems.

The presented methodology just relies on line voltages, line currents and nameplate data; and it adopts a modified stator resistance, which already comprises the mechanical losses effect. This modified stator resistance is estimated through a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm, which is a kind of artificial intelligence applied to optimization problems. The PSO presented objective function aims to minimize the torque error at the rated operation point. Simulation and experimental results validate the effectiveness of the presented methodology.

A new concept of stator resistance including the mechanical losses effect is presented. This modified stator resistance is estimated through a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) approach. The proposed methodology only relies on line currents, line voltages and nameplate data, which is appropriate for in-service applications. Finally, simulation and experimental tests were conducted to validate the proposed method at different load conditions.

Renewable Energy Sources (RES) such as wind and sun will provide a higher and higher contribution to the electric power generation. Coordinating and controlling multiple small power plants, Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and controllable loads with a central Energy Management System (EMS) make it possible to form Virtual Power Plants (VPP). In the paper will be shown how a VPP offers a solution to increase the integration of the energy produced by RES into the electric network. Especially the paper focuses on the energy storage dimensioning within a VPP structure. The sensitivity analysis shows how the power generated the RES share as well as the RES technology influence the optimal storage capacity.
