She has a 3years history of non specific joint pain, bleeding of fingers and toe nails, episodic fainting spells. She had depressive symptoms for the last 1 month. She was admitted to the psychiatric ward of POF Medical Complex Wah Cantt for observation and found to cut her cuticles with blade, on confrontation, patient and her family started to quarrel with the hospital staff and left against advice

Effective sports participation of children with hearing deficits has physical, mental, intellectual as well as societal benefits. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of sports participation on academic achievement of hearing impaired children. For this purpose, a total of children were selected, divided into groups on the basis of comparative experimental design. Half of the sample was assigned to control group including those students who did not participate in sports whereas, other half was assigned to experimental group including those children who participated in sports activity including Badminton, Football and Volleyball. After pretest and post test data was collected with the help of Sports Participation Scale and Academic Performance rating scale. The overall reliability of the scale was found to be. Results indica...

METHODOLOGY 20 patients presented with lateral epicondylitis (Tennis elbow) to OPD in Ziauddin Hospital (Clifton, North and Kemari campuses). They were enrolled for the purpose of research study after written informed consent. Subjects were erratically assigned into 2 groups, i.e. group A for MWM and group B for manipulation. All patients were examined before and after the treatment and then findings were evaluated. Pain was sedated by Visual analogue scale (VAS), grip strength was measured by hand–held dynamometer and functional activities’ outcomes were measured by forearm analysis questionnaire survey for lateral epicondylitis, by H B Leung et al 2004. RESULT A total of 20 patients were randomly selected and divided into two groups i.e. Group–A & Group–B. The result shows for Group A: The mean o...

In this study, potential antioxidant effects of casticin (CAS) were assessed against CP generated oxidative stress in rat liver. “Twenty-four male Sprague Dawley rats were divided into four experimental groups. Group-1 (control group) received only normal saline”. Group-2 was intraperitoneally injected with CP (10mg/kg). Group-3 was orally provided by CAS (50mg/kg) along with CP (10mg/kg) injection at first day. Group-4 group was orally administered with CAS (50mg/kg) throughout the experiment. The rats of group-1 indicated “increase in serum levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP), while a significant decrease in the activities of catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD)” was noticed, which revealed that CP generated oxidative stress in rat liver. Moreover, administration of CP increased the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration and level of “thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS)”, while reducing the % DNA head and head length in liver cell nuclei. CP disturbs the lobular structure of the liver and increased the sinusoidal dilation in rat liver. However, co-treatment with CAS successfully mitigated the CP generated DNA disruption, biochemical and pathological changes in rat liver. These findings revealed that an effective antioxidant, CAS, alleviated the CP generated hepatotoxicity and oxidative stress in rats.

In this review, we summarize up-to-date advances of the research progress about this pigment, which include (1) fundamental studies of its biosynthetic pathway, (2) production of violacein by native producers, apart from C. violaceum, (3) metabolic engineering for improved production in heterologous hosts, such as E. coli, Citrobacter freundii, Corynebacterium glutamicum, and Yarrowia lipolytica, (4) biological/pharmaceutical and industrial properties, (5) applications in synthetic biology. Due to the intrinsic properties of the violacein and intermediates during its biosynthesis, the prospective researches have huge potential to move this pigment into real clinical and industrial applications.
