Materials and Methods: Murine ES cells (CCE cell line) exposed to Alpha-MEM medium containing 10% FBS for 4 days. Then obtained Flk-1 (Flk-1: Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 2) Positive cells were cultuted in Endothelial Growth Medium-2 (EGM-2) until the last day of experiment. Differentiated cells were evaluated by immunocytochemistry, RT-PCR and Tube Formation Assays. Results: When the ES cells cultured in collagen coated dishes containing Alpha-MEM & FBS, Flk-1 positive cells were obtained. After transfering Flk-1 positive cells into fibronectin coated dishes containing EGM2, the cells were assumed a relatively uniform endothelial cell morphology and could be propagated and expanded. Immunocytochemical and RT-PCR analysis of differentiated cells showed that they take up acetylated low-density lipoprotein (LDL), express Flk-1, CD31 and bind the BS-l lectin. When placed in Matrigel, these Murine ES cell-derived endothelial cells formed capillary-like structures characteristic of endothelial cells Conclusion: ES cell-derived endothelial cells provide a novel means to examine the mechanisms of endothelial cell development, and may open up new therapeutic strategies.

Patient Information Spontaneous splenic transplantation and implant in in abdominal and pelvic regions is splenosis, which occurs after splenectomy followed by trauma and surgery. The clinical significance of splenic implant and the requirement for its removal are debatable. The cases of splenic implants in the pelvic zone have rarely been reported. Generally, these patients have no clinical features and are usually discovered by chance. In this report, a 36-year-old woman with the history of splenectomy after an accident at the age of 4 was introduced with Dysmenorrhea and infertility; the primary diagnosis was endometriosis, but pathology results reported the splenosis. Whole tissues and implants of spleen around the ovary and choledosac were removed; following this, the patient's pain was reduced and the overall health improved. Conclusion Splenosis can emerge as a benign condition in the abdomen and pelvis, and can show itself as a spread of tissue implants in the pelvic cavity. It can, however, easily be mistaken for endometriosis in imaging.

Aims The use of non-invasive laboratory tests based on detection of biomarkers in the blood samples is a good strategy for early diagnosis of breast cancer. The lymphocyte radiosensitivity assessment can be a valuable method to diagnose breast cancer. The objective of this study was to investigate the radiosensitivity indices in sporadic breast cancer among Iranian women and to evaluate the potential of those indices for clinical use in early diagnosis of breast cancer and assessing its susceptibility. Materials & Methods The present study is a case-control that was conducted on 32 patients with sporadic breast cancer (patient group) and 30 healthy individuals (control group). The obtained blood samples of both groups were exposed to gamma-irradiation (0.4 Gy) and the level of chromosome breakage was determined based on the G2 chromosome breakage assay protocol. In the metaphase lymphocytes, the percentage of the abnormal cells was calculated as the radiosensitivity index for comparing the two groups. Data were analyzed by SPSS 19 software using student t-test, paired t-test, chi-square and Fisher exact test. Findings There was a significant difference in the percentage of the index of the abnormal cells after irradiation between two groups (p=0.001). The area under the curve (AUC) of the percentage of the abnormal cells and odds ratio (OR) were found as 0.725 with 3.818, respectively. The frequency of increased radiosensitivity based on this index (at 61% cutoff point), was 65.6% in the patients and about 33% in the control group. Conclusion The increased level of chromosome breakage following irradiation with gamma rays can be used as an early diagnostic biomarker of breast cancer or a possible indicator for breast cancer susceptibility.

Aims Laparoscopy is accepted as a golden standard method in treatment of endometriosis. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of endometriosis management protocol using a combined drug-surgery treatment in various stages. Materials & Methods This non-experimental and interventional study was conducted on 47 patients with confirmed endometriosis in Sarem women's hospital (Tehran, Iran) in 2011-2012. The patients were divided into 4 groups according to the endometriosis stages of I to IV. Laparoscopy surgery (electro-coagulation and the adhesions removing) was performed for all patients, and then they treated for monthly injection of GnRH analogues. The second and third laparoscopy procedures were performed after 3 and 6 months for relevant groups, respectively. Findings In the stage-I endometriosis group 9 (90%) patients showed complete recovery after 3 months of treatment and 1 remained case showed complete recovery after 6 months. For stage-II and stage-III groups 16 (72.7%) and 5 (50%) cases showed complete recovery after 6 months of the treatment, respectively. The remained patients of stages II and III treated with GnRH for an additional 3 months and showed complete recovery (excluding one case) after 9 months. In Stage-IV, 2 (40%) cases showed complete recovery and 3 out of 5 patients were candidate to laparotomy. Conclusion The patients with high stages of endometriosis require more invasive and longer treatments. The success of combined drug-surgery treatment for patients in stage-I endometriosis is possible in the course of 3 months. It requires 6 months for patients in stage-II and between 6 to 9 months for patients in stage-III for complete recovery.

OHSS may develop early or late after exposure to hCG. Early OHSS occurs immediately after oocyte retrieval and reflects the effect of exogenous hCG, which is administered to achieve final follicular maturation following the excessive ovarian response to follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Late OHSS occurs 10 days or more after the ovulatory dose of hCG and is caused by endogenous hCG produced by the primary pregnancy; it may be more severe and more dangerous than the early form, and it is difficult to predict [2]. Whereas mild OHSS is of no clinical significance and does not require intervention, its severe form is difficult to control and treat, and is a life-threatening complication [3,4]. OHSS presents with the e...

The risk of spontaneous preterm labor is increased due to various maternal factors. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the maternal factors involved in preterm labor. Materials & Methods This cross-sectional study as a descriptive-analytic and retrospective study was conducted on 2432 women referred to Sarem women's hospital in 2013. The patients' data including demographic information and risk factors for preterm labor were collected by a researcher-made-questionnaire. The data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U, Fisher's exact and Chi square tests using SPSS 22 software. Findings The prevalence of preterm labor was found as 237 (9.75%). The maternal factors including body mass index (BMI), maternal age (more than 35 years), history of thyroid disease, intrauterine fetal death (IUFD), premature rupture of membranes (PROM), preeclampsia, parity, two or multiple pregnancies and abnormal volume of amniotic fluid showed significant correlation with the occurrence of spontaneous preterm labor (P <0.05). However, the other factors including hypertension history before pregnancy, history of abortion, history of diabetes and ectopic pregnancy did not show statistically significant correlation with preterm labor (P>0.05). Conclusion Maternal factors including BMI, maternal age, thyroid disease, IUFD, PROM, preeclampsia, parity, two or multiple pregnancies and abnormal volume of amniotic fluid can influence the occurrence of spontaneous preterm labor.
