XP is due to alterations in the nucleotide excision repair system which could eliminate DNA fragments damaged by ultraviolet radiation. We report a case of a 14-year-old admitted for photophobia and a conjunctival mass. He underwent laboratory tests, including a complete blood count (CBC), which was unremarkable, and serological tests such as rapid plasma reagin (RPR) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) test were negative. A consultation in Ophthalmology was requested, concluding in bilateral corneal dystrophy. A few months later he developed two masses, one on the distal border of the tongue and the other at the level of the parotid region. He underwent two excisional biopsies; the parotid mass revealed an ulcerated squamous cell carcinoma on a background of xeroderma pigmentosum, and the tongue tip mass revealed a welldifferentiated infiltrating verrucous carcinoma with a smooth margin. Xeroderma pigmentosum is a rare genodermatosis affecting the skin, eyes and oral cavity. It is sometimes associated with cancers of internal organs and rarely of the tongue. This study reports a case of XP associated with verrucous carcinoma of the tongue and ocular complications. Currently, there is no curative treatment for XP, and the only treatments available are symptomatic and preventive.

It can cause multi-system organ damage, shock, and infection. We present a case of a through-and-through abdominal bullet wound where laparotomy exploration has found nothing as damage inside the abdomen.

The objective is to present the demographic characteristics of the main diagnoses. Methodology The data were revealed from the emergency book and the period considered was from April 1 to 22, 2021, and then from May 3 to 30, 2021, due to a work stoppage. 97 patients were recorded in the notebook for the period. SPSS and Excel were used for the analyses. Results The mean age of the patients was 56.82±16.85 years. Of these 57.7% were in the 30-65 age group, and only 8.2% were under 30 years. More than half were male (52.6%). However, women were older than men (59.60±16.78 years vs 54.32±16.67 years) (Figure 1). About the origin, 40.2% came from the Western department, and 13.4% were from the South. (Table 1) Only 21.6% of patients were referred. Of these referred patients 38.1% came from the West department, 19.0% from the Centre department, and 14.3% ...

It leads to multi-systemic organ damage, shock, and infection. Case presentation A 20-year-old male alcohol and tobacco user with no relevant health history was admitted at Hôpital de l’Université d’Etat d’Haïti, in the emergency Surgery Department for an abdominal bullet wound. The initial clinical examination was unremarkable except for the presence of hemorrhagic lesions. A few hours later, the patient became diaphoretic, complained of abdominal pain. In view of his rapidly developing condition, he was prepared for the operating room. An exploratory laparotomy was performed, in which 100 cc of blood was found effusing into the abdominal cavity, without any intraperitoneal visceral damage. Systematic exploration showed retroperitoneal hematomas in zone II, where a wound in the psoas muscle was found on the po...

An exploratory laparotomy wasperformed, in which 100 cc of blood was found effusing into the abdominal cavity, without anyintraperitoneal visceral damage. Systematic exploration showed retroperitoneal hematomas in zone II,where a wound in the psoas muscle was found on the posterior left, in the path of the exit wound of theprojectile. Bone splinters were also present on the right in the path of the entrance wound, indicating afracture of the iliac bone. Conclusion This case reminds us about the uncertain trajectory of projectiles in abdominal gunshotwounds and the possible lesions to which one is exposed, and that despite the apparent hemodynamicstability exploratory laparotomy still has its place where medical imaging technology is not available.
