Furthermore, it aimed at evidencing common transmitting routes and highlighting the importance of preventive measures among these groups. Methods: The literature review was conducted using online databases (Medline) with search query involving the keyword “hepatitis C” in conjunction with keywords describing risk groups such as "dialysis", or "haemodialysis", or "pregnancy", or "pregnant", or "mental health", or "tattoo", or "piercing", or "HIV", or "health professionals”. Results: After assessing all the retrieved publications, 39 of them were considered for inclusion: 17 on haemodialysis patients, 7 on pregnant women, 8 on H...

Method: A national survey during 2007-2008 has been carried out, using “100% sampling” method, according to WHO and IUTALD standards. Smear-positive pulmonary TB patients aged ≥15 years were eligible. Drug susceptibility testing using simple proportion method was performed against four first-line drugs, i.e., isoniazid, rifampicin, ethambutol and streptomycin. Results: During one year enrolling period, 207 initial isolates of M Tuberculosis were analyzed. Out of them 172 (83%) were from new cases and 35 (17%) from re-treatment cases. Any resistance among new cases was 20.9% and 45.7% among re-treatment cases. Resistance to INH was 0.6% among new cases and 5.8% among re-treatment cases. MDR-TB was 0% among new cases and 11.5% among re-treatment cases. All MDR-TB cases were distributed among re-treatment cases. Conclusion: Low rates of MDR-TB in ...

In early 2017, abortions occurred in ∼70% of goats and 66% tested positive for Coxiella burnetii (C. burnetii) and 40% of goats were positive for Chlamydophila abortus (C. abortus). In February 2018, the same herd reported an abortion rate of 75%, with 55% positive for C. burnetii, 36% for C. abortus, and 22% for Toxoplasma gondii. Six goat milk samples were positive for C. burnetii by molecular analysis. Three family members were positive for C. burnetii. C. burnetii could be considered as the main cause of abortions in the first and second year. Animals that undergo an infection and abortion are prone to secondary infections. Vaccination or other rapid interventions should be initiated to protect animals and humans.

Positive results were obtained for the phleboviruses TOSV and SFNV, and for a flavivirus of the Japanese Encephalitis group. No positive results for TBEV were observed.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to analyze the predictors that affect the rehabilitation outcome of war-related transtibial amputees and the relationship of these factors with ambulation ability after prosthetic fitting. Study design: Retrospective observational study. Methods: We reviewed the records of 69 war-related transtibial amputees. The rehabilitation outcome was analyzed according to the grade of rehabilitation summarized in three grades. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to determine the odds of achieving the first rehabilitation grade. Results: The majority of patients with transtibial amputations achieved the first grade of rehabilitation (59.4%). The factors that significantly influenced the achievement of the first grade of reh...

Immunological status with regard to measles was initially investigated through samples of serum from 433 female partcipants of fertile age (15-49 years) from the Pristina, Prizren and Gjilan regions. In the second phase of the research, samples from 84 mothers, and their children below one year of age, were tested for inherited immunity to measles. The mean age of female participants of fertile age was 29.11±7.91 years. 54.7% of them stated that they had been vaccinated with MMR and 29.6% had been infected with measles. The highest vaccination rate, at 91%, was among women aged between 15 and 19. The lowest immunity rate, at 79%, was found among women born between 1979 and 1983. In the analysis of 84 mothers and their children below one year of age, 42 mothers (50%) confirmed th...

We reviewed the records of 101 war-related lower limb amputees who had inpatient rehabilitation at the National Ortho-Prosthetic Centre (NOPC) of Kosovo in Pristina, from July 1999 to June 2001, a retrospective observational study. Assessment of rehabilitation outcome-ambulation grade with prosthesis, is made on a 3-point scale. The amputation type was shown as an important predictor for the rehabilitation duration and outcome. The analysis by comparative groups has confirmed the amputation type to be of biggest importance. Earlier prosthetic rehabilitation, was shown as a factor of influence on the rehabilitation duration in all cases (r=0.22, P=0.027). This predictor was not relevant for the rehabilitation outcome. The most frequent type of prosthesis manufa...

The first cases of tularemia in Kosovo were reported in 1999 among civil population in the west part of Kosovo. Tularemia has become an important problem in Kosova after 1999. Aim: The aim of this study was to analyze the frequency and distribution of Tularemia in Kosovo in the period from 2006 to 2011, propose measures and activities for prevention and control of the disease. Material and method. In this descriptive, retrospective study, we used official reports on infectious diseases from National Institute of Public Health of Kosova (NIPHK), as well as epidemiological surveys. The data collected were analyzed and the corresponding statistical parameters were tested with SPSS for the level of significance for P<0.01 and P<0.05. Results and Discussion: The morbidity rate over the study period ranged from 0.38 (2011) to 11.26 (2010) per 100000 inhabitants. We found statistical significance between years for the level of P<0.00001. (X 2 -test=387.5; DF=5; P<0.0001). The majority of tularemia cases occurred in female (59%) with statistical significance for P<0.001 (X2-test=16.07; DF=1; P<0.001)
