In this paper a new approach based on wavelet thresholding is proposed for de-noising on-line PD signal. This method first applied on two different type PD signals with White Gaussian Noise (WGN) and simulation results shows that new threshold function give better performance with less computing time as compare to other existing de-noising technique. Finally, a field detected signal is tested and the de-noised signal indicates that method is effective and efficient for this application also

Among the previous work correlation coefficient and signal-to-noise ratio is used for evaluating the optimal wavelet bases. In statistical point of view, these two indexes can not give optimum de-noising performance comprehensively. So, in this paper, the concept of energy loss is taken into the account and it is more effective for further analyzing the quality of partial discharge signal. This method is applied on two simulated PD signal and also on field detected signal. From the results it shows that the de-noising procedure can be improved by selecting the optimal wavelet bases.

Among different kinds of high-voltage pulse transformers, authors have studied Pulse Transformer with closed magnetic core. Studies are made with pulse transformer with different geometric structure of transformer windings and considerable impacts on the output characteristics has been observed. Authors also studied the effect of auxiliary windings on the pulse shape of a closed magnetic circuit-type high-voltage pulse transformer.
Study of Effects of Repetitive Impulse Voltage on Paper Insulation

Stress due to repetitive pulses on insulator has a detrimental effect and may cause system failures in unfavorable conditions. In this study, various paper insulators used in transformer and motor were tested using recurrent impulse voltages. Breakdown voltages were noted and a design scheme was employed to capture the PD before breakdown using a HFCT and PC oscilloscope. A comparative analysis was done based on its breakdown and on its partial discharge data. DWT and reconstruction was performed on the PD signal and analysed to report the frequency of PD occurring due to recurrent impulse voltages on the afore-mentioned insulating materials.

In motor and dry type transformers insulation has many interfaces and undesirable defects and these defects can be exposed under this non destructive testing methodology. With the development of power electronics variable frequency drives (VFD), Dry Type or cast resin Transformers used with PWM Sine wave inverters for solar power are being widely used. To probe the integrity of the Electrical insulation system as well as winding defects we have used the recurrent surge generator for testing winding integrity as well as Partial Discharge(PD) at fast rising voltage enabling PD measurement at closer situation under which the insulation system is supposed to work. The compatibility is best understood when we understand the basic physical phenomenon related to this. Since the problem of compatibility is principally due to dielectric mismatch of different insulating materials and the electric field applied to the insulating system a designer or a practicing electrical engineer should have a clear idea of these parameters. Here the author tried to describe the whole thing in a quantum mechanical and field theoretic approach in a lucid way. Starting with an introduction to the basics of dielectrics and electrical field author tried to explain how the quantum and thermo dynamical state of composite insulating material within the bulk as well as in the interfaces between solid liquid or gaseous dielectric respond to the applied electric field with a brief account of electric cond...

In on-site PD measurement de noising this PD signal from noisy environment is one of the major challenges. This paper proposes a new nonlinear threshold function for de-noising PD signal using wavelet transform (WT) technique. This new threshold function is continuous as the soft threshold function and also uses the unused coefficients (i.e. wh ich are less than threshold value) which are set to zero in different threshold function. This method first applied on two different type PD signals with White Gaussian Noise (WGN) and simulation results shows that new threshold function can give beUer performance by changing the variable parameter.
