The purposes of the Phase One report are to (1) assess the need for a contingency plan for communicating in situations of crisis and controversy; (2) identify goals and objectives for the planning process; and (3) provide recommendations for future planning activities to achieve the goals and objectives outlined in Phase One. It is strongly recommended that MSFC personnel who are involved in communications with the media participate in a facilitated, strategic communications planning process in order to develop Phase Two of the Communications Contingency Plan (CCP). Phase Two will address (1) the categorizing, ranking and prioritizing of crises and controversies; (2) the development of action steps and implementation...

The findings show that Palestinian adolescents reported more trust in the political system, were more aware and had a more formulated opinion of the political system than their Jewish colleagues. In addition, it was found that more religious adolescents showed more political awareness and involvement. In general, gender gaps in political participation measures were larger among Arab adolescents compared with Jewish adolescents. The researchers suggest that some of the findings can be explained by the potential role of participation in political activities by minority adolescents in the development of adolescents' political perception and attitudes.

This study examined through narrative analysis the online dialogue of engagement between students and faculty through the lens of social constructivism, specifically focusing on barriers creating monologue and facilitators creating "online" dialogue . Transformative dialogue was more difficult in the online transition because of technology structures and differing expectations. Results suggest that faculty and students must be prepared to use online technology in a pedagogical setting that requires greater responsibility for students to "manage their education. " The "boundedness" of an online environment requires faculty to encourage a shift from blame to responsibility. Although online dialogue was considered "stilted," even by experienced participants, the convenience is evident for students as well as faculty. The results demonstrated the need for faculty presence through the use of online tools to make the online environment meaningful. Reviewing these narratives may help administrators prepare for a transition to an online program.

The purpose of this grounded theory study was to understand the reconstruction of this neighborhood by examining patterns of processes among residents, politicians, and other stakeholders. The results used a critical hermeneutic lens in a community undergoing the process of gentrification to regeneration. Findings illustrated that the road from gentrification to regeneration for this community is fraught with systematically distorted communication that needed communicative action for emancipation. The four theoretical codes of "Gentrification-collision between economic and political," "Systematically distorted communication," "Regeneration," and "Strategies: Communicative action is emancipatory" represented how power and language intersected within an economic and political discourse.

This paper addresses these factors as predictors of community meeting attendance by two ethnic minority groups-African Americans and Korean Americans. Survey findings indicate ethnic differences as predictors of intent to attend a community meeting, and implications for facilitation of meeting processes are discussed. Further research is suggested to deepen understanding of how different ethnic groups perceive and respond to conflict in public meetings.

Evaluation of critical thinking in online discussions is often facilitated by the use of rubrics; however, it is not unusual for rubrics to either omit critical thinking as a component of the rubric or to reference it in a vague way. For the purposes of this study, quantitative and qualitative data were collected from faculty to identify their attitudes about critical thinking attributes as performance measures for evaluation rubrics. Factor analysis revealed that the response patterns clustered for each factor represented the themes 1) demonstrates logic and reasoning" (described as offering accurate supporting evidence and strategies and solutions); and 2) "creative critical thought processes" (described as novel perceptions, bias refutation, and alternative-seeking). From this study, we would suggest that faculty should use an evaluation rubric that encompasses these two dimensions.
