The sample was dried at 70 °C for 40 h (designated FAU) and then calcined at 450 °C for 5 h (designated FAU-450). Both samples were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), which confirmed the formation of the FAU structure. In addition, from the XRD data and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy, the Si/Al ratio was determined to be ~ 1.20, which is typical for FAU-X zeolite. Scanning Electron Microscopy revealed that both samples have morphologies corresponding to sheet agglomerate, with FAU-450 having an agglomerate size of 1.41 µm and a sheet thickness of about 0.13 µm. These values are close to the data obtained by transmission electron microscopy, where an agglomerate size of ~ 1.39 µm and a sheet thickness of ~ 0.12 µm were observed. From the Tauc's plots for FAU and FAU-450, the values of direct and indirect band gaps were determined and found to be close for both samples. In the case of FAU-450, values of 4.35 eV and 3.12 eV were obtained for the direct and indirect transition, respectively. From the TGA/ DTA data, it was found that FAU loses mass due to dehydration of the zeolite at temperatures below 350 °C, while the sample is structurally stable up to 700 °C.

The calculated optical properties as a function of frequency include the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function ε(ω), the refraction index n(ω), the extinction coefficient κ(ω), the reflectivity R(ω), the energy loss function L(ω), the absorption coefficient α(ω), and finally the optical conductivity σ(ω), along with specific directions of the primitive cell. It is demonstrated that the optical properties of the Sodium LTA zeolite cluster appear anisotropic within the range of ultraviolet. The nature of anisotro...

These crystalline materials are composed of Si-O tetrahedral structures, and according to the assembly of such tetrahedral structures, specific crystalline structures are obtained. Until now, it has been said that there are more than 245 different zeolitic frameworks, and since each one has a specific distribution of pores and cavities, each kind of zeolite has a specific area-to-volume ratio. As a result of the type of zeolite structure, the zeolite can exhibit specific properties, i.e., electrical or optical. Moreover, the physical properties of zeolites can be modified after the inclusion of another chemical species in their structure or in their voids, which can result in tuning a zeolite for specific applications. In this work, synthetic zeolites of types LTA, FAU and MFI are characterized by a number of methods. In particular, the data from UV-Vis spectroscopy are analyzed, and the effect of crystalli...

Rietveld refinement was used to calculate the structural parameters, where a crystallite size (D XRD) of 79 nm was estimated. This value was confirmed by the Williamson−Hall analysis. Transmission electron microscopy was used to analyze the microstructure, revealing the presence of extensive interfaces, nanoparticles, and a high crystallinity. First-principles calculations were performed with the WIEN2k package, finding a band gap of 0.27 eV. The thermoelectric properties were determined combining experimental measurements and theoretical results from the BoltzTraP code. The highest value of the electronic figure of merit (ZT e) was 1.67 at 415 K. However, when the lattice thermal contribution (k L) is considered, the highest value of the figure of merit (ZT) was 0.144 at 644 K.

First principles total energy calculations have been applied to describe the ReCN bulk structure ... more First principles total energy calculations have been applied to describe the ReCN bulk structure and the formation of ReCN monolayers and bilayers. Results demonstrate a strong structural rearrangement in the monolayer due to a reduced dimension effect: an increase in the lattice parameter, accompanied with the contraction of the distance between the C and N planes. On the other hand, a ReCN bilayer has structural parameters similar to those of the bulk. Surface formation energies show that the monolayer is more stable than bilayer geometries. Although bulk ReCN shows a semiconductor behavior, the monolayer ReCN presents a metallic behavior. This metallic character of the ReCN monolayer is mainly due to the d-orbitals of Re atoms.

The model is based on a centric and annual potential profile. The time-independent Schrödinger equation including an external magnetic field and an AB flux is analytically solved. The outputs, namely energy dispersion and wavefunctions, are analyzed in detail. It is shown that the rotation quantum number [Formula: see text] is limited to small numbers, especially in weak confinement, and a conceptual proposal is put forward for acquiring the flux and eventually estimating the persistent currents in a Zeeman spectroscopy. The wavefunctions and electron distributions are numerically studied and compared to one-dimensional (1D) quantum well. It is predicated that the model and its solutions, eigen energy structure and analytic wavefunctions, would be a powerful tool for studying various electric and optical pro...

In this work, we have produced rhenium carbide (ReC x) films by the reactive pulsed laser deposition method. Nanoindentation has been performed to estimate hardness. The maximum hardness value for ReC x films resulted to be 22.5 GPa. We found no evidence that ReC x films have hardness, or plasticity, higher than competitive hard coating materials. Our results and the fact that rhenium is expensive and scarce, suggest that preceding reports are overoptimistic on the prospective use of rhenium carbide as hard coatings.

Combining first principles band structure calculation with semi classical model analysis; we obtained the Seebeck coefficient as well as the electrical conductivity as a function of the relaxation time for the electrons. The results indicate the potential of the ReCN as a good thermoelectric material in the low region of the temperature.

COVID-19 has drawn worldwide attention to the need for personal protective equipment. Face masks ... more COVID-19 has drawn worldwide attention to the need for personal protective equipment. Face masks can be transformed from passive filters into active protection. For this purpose, it is sufficient to apply materials with oligodynamic effect to the fabric of the masks, which makes it possible to destroy infectious agents that have fallen on the mask with aerosol droplets from the air stream. Zeolites themselves are not oligodynamic materials, but can serve as carriers for nanoparticles of metals and/or compounds of silver, zinc, copper, and other materials with biocidal properties. Such a method, when the particles are immobilized on the surface of the substrate, will increase the lifetime of the active oligodynamic material. In this work, we present the functionalization of textile materials with zeolites to obtain active personal protective equipment with an extended service life. This is done with the aim to extend the synthesis of zeolitic materials to polymeric fabrics beyond cot...

Since the properties of zeolites can be tuned after the inclusion of additional chemical species into the zeolitic framework, it is necessary to study the nature of zeolites after modification with transition metals to understand the new properties that were obtained, and with this information, novel applications can be proposed. This paper reports a solvent-free approach for the rapid synthesis of zeolites modified with iron and/or iron oxide particles. The samples were characterized, and their electrical and magnetic properties were investigated.
