The quality of finished goods is directly related to the cutting tool condition. Several types of research have been carried out in cutting tool condition monitoring. On the other hand, the manufacturing industries should be aware of the cutting tool selection, operating conditions, and performance of cutting tools. This article emphasizes the performance of coated cutting tools and tool materials for various machining operations. Nowadays, the nanocoating of CNC tool inserts increases the wear resistance, vibration emissions, metal removal rate, etc. These coating techniques influence the manufacturing industry to increase the productivity and quality of the finished goods and reduce the machining cost. The performance of thin film multilayered coatings such as TiN, TiAlN, AlTiN, Ti, and TiCN on plain silicon carbide tool inserts is revealed by the researchers to guide the manufacturing industry for proper tool selection and standard machining inputs for metal removal operation. The influence of coating material such as TiBN, TiN, TiAlN, and CrAlSiN in cutting tools leads to increase the life time of the cutting tools, which decreases the material sticking and cutting forces. Titanium carbo nitride is wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant. Compared to TiCN, TiAlN is harder due to the higher hardness of 32 GPa. This article concludes the material selection based on the work piece material which yields good metal removal with less cutting forces. The article concludes the cutting material selection based on the work piece for machining operations.

Stir casting process is used to formulate the composite samplin g by varying iron oxide in 5% and 10% by weight. Three different heat treatment process of hardening, annealing and normalizing is carried out on samples of aluminium (LM6), aluminium (LM6) + 5% Fe2O3 and aluminium (LM6) + 10% Fe2O3. Composite specimens are tested to analyze the mechanical properties such as hardness, yield stress, tensile strength and elongation. Present reinforcement specks enabled the alloy to preserve higher hardness during the heat treatment. Results have shown substantial improvements in the properties of the specimens with various compositions of reinforcement.

The main objective of this paper is to study the variation of shock Mach number with respect to the diaphragm material and thickness. The diaphragm is placed in between the driver and driven section and were held together using a tri-clover clamp, which enables the diaphragm to be changed quickly. The driver section is pressurized initially using a Air compressor and then the excess pressure necessary for the diaphragm to rupture is provided using a foot pump. This in turn produces shockwaves. The velocity of the shockwave is measured using microphones placed in the driver section. The microphones records the interference caused by the shockwave and the time taken for the wave to interfere both the microphones can be calculated using audio software. The calculated change in velocity for different diaphragm materials is tabulated and the results are discussed.

Need for improved performance has led to the design and election of newer variants of the composite Material. This Experiment deals with the comparision of wearbehaviour of Al-Ni-SiC metal matrix composite for fluctuating reinforcement content with the 8011 aluminium alloy. Metal matrix composites are prepared by stir casting method using 8011 aluminiumalloy, silicon carbide particles and Nickel-600 alloy by varying the weight fraction of SiC and Nickel 600 in the range of 10% and 10%. The material is symphonized by stir casting process in an electric melting furnace. Then the wear test of material is conducted by pin-on disc tester. It is observed that wearresistance of metal matrix composites was increased compared to the 8011 aluminium alloy.

Studies have confirmed that trapped vortices on corrugated airfoils modify the effective wing sha... more Studies have confirmed that trapped vortices on corrugated airfoils modify the effective wing shape, resulting in an increase in lift. The intense system of vortices trapped in the cavity forces the flow to reattach, thus preventing separation. The vortices thereby change the lift, drag and pitching moments depending on whether the step is introduced on the upper or lower edge of the airfoil. The paper focuses on carrying out performance test on stepped (Kline Fogleman) airfoils using the propeller test rig. Stepped airfoils have single or multiple steps along the length of the wing. The trapped vortex cavity is being used by stepped airfoil which enhances the flow field characteristics An airfoil of the NACA series was chosen for which a step was introduced at 50% of the airfoil thickness at mid chord position half way along its length. These airfoils are then used for the fabrication of propeller blades. They are then tested for various speeds and blade angles using the propeller test rig. With the increase in lift, the efficiency of the propeller is also increased. The results are compared and studied with the convectional airfoils. Future scope of the work will also be discussed.
