It accounts for about 4.8% of all the cases of craniosynostosis, and it is the most common syndrome presenting with craniosynostoses. The Crouzon syndrome's early diagnosis is critical to avoid cranial hypertension as well as visual disturbances and blindness. Children who have Crouzon syndrome have a range of problems of variable severity, from mild facial defects causing a primarily cosmetic concern, to severe symptoms affecting breathing, feeding, vision and brain development. The dental profession should have sufficient knowledge of syndromes associated with dysmorphic facies to detect patients who are unaware of their condition. Case Report: A 23yearold female patient presented to the clinic with multiple dental problems affecting masticatory efficiency and esthetics. On observation, it was seen that she had many facial and dental deformities which were suggestive of craniofacial dysostosis. The case was diagnosed as Crouzon syndrome. Conclusion: This case report emphasizes the role of a dentist in diagnosing such conditions and coordinating a multidisciplinary team for corrective measures.

As the bacteria or fungi surviving and thriving under the gutta percha and sealer have to be removed [1-3]. Gutta percha can be removed using K or H files along with chemical solvents. Alternatively, it can also be removed from the coronal portion using gates glidden drills or heated pluggers followed by the use of ultrasonics, lasers or Ni Ti rotary files for the remaining part of the canal [4,5]. Pro-Taper instruments (Dentsply-Maillefer Ballaigues, Switzerland) have a convex triangular cross-sectional design with different shafts. A new NiTi rotary system, ProTaper Universal Tulsa (Dentsply Tulsa, Tulsa,) is introduced. This new system is integrated with 3 ProTaper retreatment files, D1, D2, D3. The 3 ProTaper Universal System retreatment files (PTUS) are designed to facilitate the removal of filling material. Each file has different lengths, tapers, and apical tip diameters. Mtwo Retreatment Files consist of two instruments of 21mm length with active cutting tip: R1 (size 15, 0.05 taper) and R2 (size 25, 0.05 taper). They have S-shaped cross-section but a shorter pitch length to enhance the advancement of the file into the filling material. They are used at a speed of 250-350rpm and a torque of 120gcm. These instruments are characterized by two cutting edges, which cut dentine effectively [6]. Thus, the purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate and compare the efficacy of two rotary retreatment file systems: ProTaper universal retreatment files, mtwo retreatment files and hand files (Hedstrom Files) in the removal of root canal filling material during root canal retreatment and the influence of the type of sealers zinc oxide eugenol and AH plus on the presence of debris of filling material in re-instrumented canals in single rooted mandibular premolars.

The Golden proportion, Golden percentage and recurrent aesthetic dental proportion are some of the commonly used guidelines by the dental profession for better aesthetic proportion in dentition. AIM The aim of the present study was to investigate the existence of Golden Percentage and Recurrent Aesthetic Dental proportion between the widths of maxillary anterior teeth in individuals with natural aesthetic dentition. METHODS AND MATERIAL This study was conducted on 60 dental students with an aesthetic smile (30 males and 30 females) with ages ranging from 18 to 30 yrs. by obtaining prior consent. An impression of upper arch was made with alginate impression material and standardized facial photographs were obtained from each individual. Analysis was performed by operator on cast using Dial caliper and on photographs using Corel Draw software. The existence of Golden Percentage and Recurrent Aesthetic Dental proportion was investigated. The data was statistically analysed by student's paired 't' test. RESULTS This study has shown that golden percentage is observed only in the lateral incisors and is not applicable to central incisor which showed Golden percentage of 21.7% and canine which showed 13%. There was no evidence to support the existence of RED proportion. CONCLUSION Further studies need to be carried out on a larger population with different stereotypes to prove the existence of Golden percentage and RED proportion in the Indian population.

IOSR Journal of Dental and Medical Sciences, 2013

Pulpal infection may cause a tissue destructive process that proceeds from the apical region of a... more Pulpal infection may cause a tissue destructive process that proceeds from the apical region of a tooth toward the gingival margin. The term "retrograde periodontitis" was suggested in order to differentiate this from marginal periodontitis in which the infection spreads from the gingival margin toward the root apex. The relationship between periodontal and pulpal disease was first described by Simring and Goldberg in 1964 1. Pulpodontic-periodontic syndrome has been used to define a syndrome involving inflammation or degeneration of the pulp with a periodontal pocket adjacent to the same tooth. This syndrome can be initiated by either pulpal or periodontal disease and may manifest pulpal and periodontal symptoms. In general, pulpal infection has the potential to initiate inflammatory changes in the alveolus at both apical and non-apical locations of teeth. Combined lesions are those that occur where an endodontically induced periapical lesion exists on a tooth that is also periodontally involved. All of these conditions can be placed under the general term periodontitis associated with pulpal disease.

Based on the periodontal status, 45 subjects were selected and divided into three groups. Group I - subjects with clinically healthy periodontium, Group II - generalized aggressive periodontitis (GAP), and Group III - chronic periodontitis (CP). Blood samples were collected from subjects for measurement of CRP. Periodontal parameters include plaque index (PI), gingival index, bleeding index (BI), probing pocket depth (PPD), and clinical attachment loss (CAL) were assessed. CRP levels were assessed by means of a commercially available high sensitivity-CRP enzyme immunoassay kit. CRP levels were increased in Group III (6.0671 ± 3.15639 mg/L) and Group II subjects (4.5453 ± 2.88116 mg/L) compared to the Group I (1.0180 ± 0.94069 mg/L). CRP levels showed a positive correlation with all clinical parameters in Group I subjects. BI (r = 0.073), PI (r = 0.120) showed a p...

The cytotoxicity was evaluated after setting of the sealers at different time intervals. Materials and Methods: Mouse skin fibroblasts L-929 was obtained from cell repository centre of national centre for cell science Pune, India. The cells were grown as monolayer cultures in Dulbeccos Modified eagle Medium (DMEM). Each of the test materials were mixed according to the manufactures instruction and was allowed to set. 0.1ml of each of the set sealers was placed in the petriplates in direct contact with the fibroblasts at 24 and 48 hrs intervals and evaluated for cytotoxicity. The percentage viability of the fibroblasts were calculated and evaluated statistically. Results: The statistical analysis revealed that Apexit Plus showed slight to moderate toxicity at 24 and 48 hrs, when compared with other sealers. Sankin showed maximum toxicity at all time intervals. Conclusion: All tested endodontic sealers demonstrated varying amount of cytotoxicity at different time intervals. Apexit Plus showed the least amount of cytotoxicity and Sankin showed the highest level of cytotoxicity.

This paper reports a case of peripheral ameloblastoma in a 35-year-old female that presented as a painless swelling on the mandibular anterior labial attached gingiva. This reports emphasis the need for submitting all excised tissue for microscopic examination and to include ameloblastoma in the differential diagnosis a gingival lesion which clinically resembles a pyogenic granuloma, peripheral giant cell granuloma, or parulis/gumboil.

Periodontal subgingival pathogens affect local and systemic immune and inflammatory response and ... more Periodontal subgingival pathogens affect local and systemic immune and inflammatory response and cause the release of cytokines; this results in periodontal destruction and initiation of an acute phase systemic inflammatory response characterized by the release of C-reactive proteins (CRP). This study set out to evaluate the serum concentration of CRP that can be used as a marker of periodontal disease as well as a risk indicator for cardiovascular disease. Based on their periodontal status, 45 patients were divided into three groups. The following clinical parameters were recorded: plaque index, gingival index, bleeding index, probing pocket depth, and clinical attachment levels. Scoring was done on six tooth surfaces for all teeth. For the CRP assessment, blood samples were collected from subjects at the time of clinical examination. The results indicated an increase in serum CRP levels in patients with generalized aggressive periodontitis and chronic periodontitis as compared to ...
