The seasonal differences were determined in gut contents. In Spring, unidentified and vegetative tissues were the most important prey group in ten prey groups (chi(2), 10.0 p 0.05). Concentrations of Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Cd and Pb were determined by using ICP-MS. The surface water and sediment samples were collected monthly, from at 5 stations between June 2013 and May 2014. Descriptive statistical analysis including One-way ANOVA, significance (0.05) was done. Important differences in the mean values were tested with Duncan's multiple range test. Moreover, with the purpose for determining the level of pollution, the methods of the factor of sediment enrichment factor and the index of geoaccumulation were applied. Cu, Pb, Ni and Cd concentrations in water samples were very higher than RSWQM standards, Cu, Mn, Fe and Pb concentrations were higher than the EPA standards and also Cu, Mn, Fe, Pb, Cu and Ni concentrations were higher than the WHO guidelines. The result of sediment enrichment factor and geoaccumulation index reveals that surface sediments of the Yaglidere Stream are unpolluted. Consequently, it can be concluded that the concentrations of heavy metals in water from Yaglidere Stream are generally higher than the RSWQM, WHO and EPA standards. It can be concluded that the heavy metal pollution level is high in Yaghdere Stream and it will be good to adopt protective measures before it's too late

Sucul ekosistemlerde sediment endüstriyel ve tarımsal deşarjlar, evsel atıklar, atık su arıtma te... more Sucul ekosistemlerde sediment endüstriyel ve tarımsal deşarjlar, evsel atıklar, atık su arıtma tesisleri ve yağmur gibi doğa olayları sonrasında çeşitli kirleticiler tarafından sıklıkla kirletilmektedir. Bu etkilerinden dolayı sucul ekosistem ve insan sağlığını korumak için sediment kalitelerinin geliştirilmeye ihtiyacı vardır. Bu çalışmada Yağlıdere Çayı'ndan 5 istasyondan toplanan sediment örneklerinde bazı metallerin (As, Se, Ag, Cd, Na, K) pH, elektriksel iletkenlik, (%) su içeriği ve (%) organik madde miktarı analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler ile yerkabuğundaki iz element miktarlarından faydalanılarak Jeoakümülasyon İndeks değeri tahmin edilmiş ve örneklerin çoğunda antropojenik etkinin varlığı belirlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak, çalışma alanında K, Na, As ve Se'nin baskın olarak biriktiği gözlemlenmiştir. The study was started in June 2014 and water samples were taken from three stations for 12 months. In total, 21 physicochemical parameters and 7 heavy metals were investigated to determine the water quality. Such a detailed study has been done firstly in this pond used for irrigation purpose. As a result of performing analyses, it was found that the water quality was suitable for both the Alpsari Pond hosting aquatic animals and aquatic life. This study statistically analyzes the deteriorating water quality of the Sukhnag stream, one of the major inflow stream of Lake Wular. Statistical techniques, such as principal component analysis (PCA), regression analysis, and cluster analysis, were applied to 26 water quality parameters. PCA identified a reduced number of mean 2 varifactors, indicating that 96% of temporal and spatial changes affect the water quality in this stream. First factor from factor analysis explained 66% of the total variance between velocity, total-P, NO3–N, Ca2+, Na+, TS, TSS, and TDS. Bray-Curtis cluster analysis showed a similarity of 96% between sites IV and V and 94% between sites II and III. The dendrogram of seasonal similarity showed a maximum similarity of 97% between spring and autumn and 82% between winter and summer clusters. The monthly, seasonal, and spatial changes in physicochemical param eters and heavy metals were determined using water quality index (WQI), hierarchical cluster analysis, principal components analysis (PCA), and other statistical methods revealing the water quality characteristics and pollutants. WQI was calculated using parameters constituting the main components of water. It was determined that, according to WHO and SWQR, the water quality of this river varied between high quality and very polluted. The sodium absorption rate, % Na, residual sodium carbonate, and Kelly Ratio results did not exceed the threshold but the water was found to be dangerous in terms of magnesium hazard. In this research, a preliminary study was carried out in January and February 2014 to determine t... more In this research, a preliminary study was carried out in January and February 2014 to determine the fecundity of the whiting species in Tirebolu, Eastern Black Sea. After the total length (cm) and weight (0.01 g) of the 70 fish specimens were measured in the laboratory, they were dissected for sex determination. Using the 20 ovaries at the third and fourth maturation stages, 3 sub-samples which is 2-5% of the total ovary weight (from the anterior, median and posterior parts of the ovary) were taken from each ovary to determine the fecundity, and hydrated oocytes were counted with gravimetric method. Total fecundity, total oocytes number in the ovary were computed with the formula F=(n×G)/g. The total length-weight values were 12.6-23.3 cm (mean 17.08±2.12) and 15.59-95.72 g (mean 41.07 ± 16.75), respectively, and total length-weight relationship was computed as W=0.0073L3.024 (R2=0.94) for the 70 fishes evaluated. In this study, the first quality data on water quality of Eğlence pond which is located in Boyaba... more In this study, the first quality data on water quality of Eğlence pond which is located in Boyabat province of Sinop, was evaluated. The monitoring study was performed monthly in three sampling sites between September 2015 and August 2016. A total of 21 physicochemical parameters and 7 heavy metal levels were evaluated on the seasonal, and annual. Then, these values have been classified according to the WHO and Turkey's Water Quality Management Regulation criteria. The Eğence Pond water is generally suitable for aquatic organisms and irrigation. However, the high water temperatures detected durin g the autumn season can pose a threat to living sensitive aquatic organisms. In this study, water temperature, sulphite, nitrate and pH changes do not a very dangerous situation. The sources of pollution threatening this Pond can be primarily the climate, and the fertilizers used in agricultural activities around the Eğlence pond.

The main aims of this study were to observe the seasonal variations of physicochemical parameters... more The main aims of this study were to observe the seasonal variations of physicochemical parameters and heavy metal content, to determine the water quality properties and the suitability level in terms of aquatic life, and also to classify the quality of water in accordance with the Surface Water Quality Management Regulation (SWQMR) criteria at Çiğdem Pond (Kastamonu/Turkey). In total, 21 physicochemical parameters and 7 heavy metals were investigated for water quality assessment of the studied pond between July 2015 and June 2016 in 3 stations. The water quality in Çiğdem Pond was found to be Class I according to SWQMR. The results of this study provide a data baseline for future studies on subsequent evaluations of possible future environmental contamination. Also, to protect the water quality and to ensure the health of aquatic life in this area, it is required to make regular observations.

These effects lead to the need to develop sediment quality objectives regarding the protection of aquatic ecosystems and human health. In this study, the sediment samples were collected from five sampling sites and then analyzed in order to identify the concentrations of certain metals (As, Se, Ag, Cd, Na, and K), the levels of pH, conductivity, water content (%) and organic matter (%) in the Yağlıdere Stream. Finally, Geo-accumulation index values calculated based on the estimations regarding the background trace element concentrations suggested the anthropogenic influences in most of the samples. Golet icme suyu ve sulama suyu ihtiyacini karsilamak icin yapilmistir. Bu calismanin temel amaclari, Kucuksu Golet’inde fizikokimyasal parametreler ve agir metal iceriginin aylik ve mevsimsel degisimini gozlemlemek, su kalitesi ozelliklerini ve sucul yasam acisindan uygunluk seviyesini belirlemek ve ayrica su kalitesini Yuzeysel Su Kalitesi Yonetimi Yonetmeligine gore siniflandirmaktir. Toplam 21 fizikokimyasal parametre ve 7 agir metal incelenmistir. Kucuksu Golet’i su kalitesi Yuzey Su Kalitesi Yonetim Yonetmeligi (YSKYY)’nin kita ici su kaynaklarinin siniflarina gore SINIF I-III olarak bulunmustur. Fiziksel ve kimyasal analizlerin bulgulari karsilastirildiginda, bu goletin bir oligotrof karakterde oldugu gorulur. Bu sonuclar acisindan, Kucuksu Golet’i suyu genellikle sucul organizmalar icin uygundur. Bu su kaynaginin kirlilik baskisi altinda oldugu, daha da kirlenmemesi, su kalitesinin korunmasi acisindan periyodik olarak duzenli olarak izlenmesinin gerektigi sonucuna ulasilmistir.

The aim of this research was to determine the accumulation levels of heavy metals (Zn,Pb,Cu,Cd) i... more The aim of this research was to determine the accumulation levels of heavy metals (Zn,Pb,Cu,Cd) in livers and muscles tissue of seahorse (Hippocampus hippocam-pus). The 20 died seahorse individuals were collected from regional fishermen at the Tirebolu coast in Novem-ber 2010. In all fish samples, mean of standard length was calculated as 78±19.68 mm, mean weight was 2.02±0.34 g. The highest levels of Pb, Zn, Cu, Cd were found in muscle tissue in descending order and their values were 1750,6; 197,4;121,32;1,568 ppm respectively. Causes of metal concentrations levels in tissues of seahorse were attributed to atmospheric sources like fossil fuel oil consumption and to territorial sources as mine reservoirs (Cu, Pb,Zn).

Örneklemelerde 200 µm ağ göz açıklığı olan Unesco WP2 zooplankton kepçesi kullanılarak, derinlikleri 10–74 m arasında değişen 34 istasyonda vertikal örneklemeler yapılmıştır. Örneklerin incelenmesi sonucunda 6 familyaya ait 18 tür tespit edilmiştir. Bu türlerden 5'i Parathemisto oblivia (Kroyer), Lestrigonus curcipes (Bovallius,1889), Lestrigonus macrophytalmus (Vosseler, 1901), Primno latreillei (Stebbing, 1888), Paralycae gracilis (Claus, 1879). Bu etkilerinden dolayı sucul ekosistem ve insan sağlığını korumak için sediment kalitelerinin geliştirilmeye ihtiyacı vardır. Bu çalışmada Yağlıdere Çayı'ndan 5 istasyondan toplanan sediment örneklerinde bazı metallerin (As, Se, Ag, Cd, Na, K) pH, elektriksel iletkenlik, (%) su içeriği ve (%) organik madde miktarı analiz edilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler ile yerkabuğundaki iz element miktarlarından faydalanılarak Jeoakümülasyon İndeks değeri tahmin edilmiş ve örneklerin çoğunda antropojenik etkinin varlığı belirlenmiştir. This study statistically analyzes the deteriorating water quality of the Sukhnag stream, one of the major inflow stream of Lake Wular. Statistical techniques, such as principal component analysis (PCA), regression analysis, and cluster analysis, were applied to 26 water quality parameters. PCA identified a reduced number of mean 2 varifactors, indicating that 96% of temporal and spatial changes affect the water quality in this stream. First factor from factor analysis explained 66% of the total variance between velocity, total-P, NO3–N, Ca2+, Na+, TS, TSS, and TDS. Bray-Curtis cluster analysis showed a similarity of 96% between sites IV and V and 94% between sites II and III. After the total length (cm) and weight (0.01 g) of the 70 fish specimens were measured in the laboratory, they were dissected for sex determination. Using the 20 ovaries at the third and fourth maturation stages, 3 sub-samples which is 2-5% of the total ovary weight (from the anterior, median and posterior parts of the ovary) were taken from each ovary to determine the fecundity, and hydrated oocytes were counted with gravimetric method. Total fecundity, total oocytes number in the ovary were computed with the formula F=(n×G)/g. The total length-weight values were 12.6-23.3 cm (mean 17.08±2.12) and 15.59-95.72 g (mean 41.07 ± 16.75), respectively, and total length-weight relationship was computed as W=0.0073L3.024 (R2=0.94) for the 70 fishes evaluated. The monitoring study was performed monthly in three sampling sites between September 2015 and August 2016. A total of 21 physicochemical parameters and 7 heavy metal levels were evaluated on the seasonal, and annual. Then, these values have been classified according to the WHO and Turkey's Water Quality Management Regulation criteria. The Eğence Pond water is generally suitable for aquatic organisms and irrigation. However, the high water temperatures detected durin g the autumn season can pose a threat to living sensitive aquatic organisms. In this study, water temperature, sulphite, nitrate and pH changes do not a very dangerous situation. The sources of pollution threatening this Pond can be primarily the climate, and the fertilizers used in agricultural activities around the Eğlence pond.

In total, 21 physicochemical parameters and 7 heavy metals were investigated for water quality assessment of the studied pond between July 2015 and June 2016 in 3 stations. The water quality in Çiğdem Pond was found to be Class I according to SWQMR. The results of this study provide a data baseline for future studies on subsequent evaluations of possible future environmental contamination. Also, to protect the water quality and to ensure the health of aquatic life in this area, it is required to make regular observations.

The aim of this research was to determine the accumulation levels of heavy metals (Zn,Pb,Cu,Cd) i... more The aim of this research was to determine the accumulation levels of heavy metals (Zn,Pb,Cu,Cd) in livers and muscles tissue of seahorse (Hippocampus hippocam-pus). The 20 died seahorse individuals were collected from regional fishermen at the Tirebolu coast in Novem-ber 2010. In all fish samples, mean of standard length was calculated as 78±19.68 mm, mean weight was 2.02±0.34 g. The highest levels of Pb, Zn, Cu, Cd were found in muscle tissue in descending order and their values were 1750,6; 197,4;121,32;1,568 ppm respectively. Causes of metal concentrations levels in tissues of seahorse were attributed to atmospheric sources like fossil fuel oil consumption and to territorial sources as mine reservoirs (Cu, Pb,Zn).

Örneklemelerde 200 µm ağ göz açıklığı olan Unesco WP2 zooplankton kepçesi kullanılarak, derinlikleri 10–74 m arasında değişen 34 istasyonda vertikal örneklemeler yapılmıştır. Örneklerin incelenmesi sonucunda 6 familyaya ait 18 tür tespit edilmiştir. Bu türlerden 5'i Parathemisto oblivia (Kroyer), Lestrigonus curcipes (Bovallius,1889), Lestrigonus macrophytalmus (Vosseler, 1901), Primno latreillei (Stebbing, 1888), Paralycae gracilis (Claus, 1879). İzmir Körfezi için yeni kayıttır. Bu türlerin Dış I, İç ve Orta Körfez'de bulunmadığı belirlenmiştir
