This work compares the daylight performance of different solutions of exterior solar protections ... more This work compares the daylight performance of different solutions of exterior solar protections used in refurbishment and new design of building with glazed facades towards the Equator in the city of Barcelona, Spain. There have been considered four study cases from the selection of two opaque and two translucent solutions. The evaluation is done through in situ illuminance measurements, taking into account the level of daylight that arrives to the integral glazed façade, not to the interior of the building. It is concluded that the cases with translucent solar protection reduce the daylight transmission to the integral façade of the building, arriving only the 40% of the total visible radiation; while the cases with opaque solar protection reduce in a larger way the arrival of daylight to the building reaching the façade only the 10% from the combined diffuse and reflected component. Because of this, the daylight behavior in the interior depends on the characteristicts of the protected glazed façade. Both of them together should achieve appropriate reductions of the solar factor and glare, been relevant the quality and characteristics of the chosen glazing for the glazed façade

It is clear that trees have an environmental role, but the question is: To what extent is the ecological nature of a tree maintained when it is transformed into timber for construction? This transformation implies the incorporation of energy, the use of pollutants, and transport. Thus, waste is generated. We tracked the life cycle of a timber facade evaluating CO2 emissions derived from processing the timber and comparing them with the content of CO2 of the timber in its natural state. On the first stage of the study, the emissions of CO2 believed to be normal for the content of carbon in the timber in its natural state were measured. We obtained a negative value until the timber was used for construction. This means that the emissions of CO2 remain lower than the content of carbon in the timber. On the second stage, the values of the CO2 emissions were positive because they exceeded...
