Torah’s casuistic provisions derive from Canaan’s archaic law. There the laws of home country were the basis of administration of a case (Weiser, 1994). At the same time the nation was formed not in Palestine, but a lot of earlier. Yet in Egypt ruled unquestionably Egyptian law, it is axiomatic, that Joseph’s relatives by marriage had patriarchal rules that they tried to follow.
