The establishment of the Mass Housing Administration and the granting of powers to local governments to build houses are the most significant steps taken to solve the housing problem for people in the lower-middle income group. This study presents research that focuses on mass housing implemented by TOKİ and local governments and includes especially user satisfaction, post-use evaluation and current situation analysis. In line with the established content, the problems in mass housing were determined by literature review and the problems caused by construction phase were also added to the study. At this point, problems related to physical space characteristics, environmental problems, aesthetic problems, and social problems caused by housing have been investigated. Subjects covered separately in many different studies have been transformed into a common data pool within the scope of this study. It is predicted that the data to be obtained from this data pool will be a valuable resource in terms of transforming the design parameters for further studies and being a base for the solution of existing problems.

Often the lighting energy savings cannot be provided in new buildings with new lighting systems. Therefore, major potential in lighting energy savings can be found in the existing building stock (older than 25 years). Educational environments such as schools, colleges, universities /campuses cover a significant percentage of the existing non-residential building stock. This study focuses on lighting solutions for the retrofitting of educational buildings, with a particular emphasis on two University lecture halls which are located in Turkey/Konya and Germany/Stuttgart. Evaluations of the pre-retrofitting lighting performance are based on the measurements and observations. After a detailed performance analysis, the best lighting retrofitting options were identified. The retrofitting scenarios were simulated in virtual environment and their impact in terms of ident...

More than 100 definitions of the concept, which is expressed as life satisfaction, general welfare, life satisfaction have been recorded in different sources. Quality of life Studies aim to investigate the causes and effects of the factors that make up the sense of well-being of individuals, to provide information on the social and spatial distribution of satisfaction and dissatisfaction, for establishing effective policies and to follow the spatial effects of these policies, it is seen that different indicators are used for quality of life measures, especially in different countries and in many academic studies. It has been revealed in the quality of life studies that the quality of life of the person depends on social environment and physical environment factors. The relationship of the individual with the place and its environment constituted the main point of the research. Within the scope of this study the models aiming to measure the satisfaction levels of the users for the house and its surroundings and accordingly the quality of life were conducted.

Yet many scientific studies suggest that people feel better at places where they can engage with nature, or in places designed with nature in mind. This study is about Biophilia, one of the new design trends that connects the built environment to nature. The studies conducted in this field show that the existing historical buildings are fascinating thanks to their biophilic characterization. The basic idea of this research suggests that this effect is high in the thirteenth and fourteenth-century's buildings in Anatolia which are influenced from admiration of nature in the Sufism belief in Seljuks. Within this scope, the conformity with the biophilic criteria was determined to examine by the Eşrefoğlu Mosque, Bayındır Mosque and Köşk Mosque. Eşrefoğlu Mosque, in particular, was found to be a reference building in terms of biophilic design and the reason behind that is its harmony with nature.

To quantify the energy performance of city quarters the influence of the surrounding urban form has to be considered; for instance the street distance, height of the neighbor buildings or urban site coverage. In this work, the lighting, heating and cooling performance of urban districts with different urban forms was simulated in detail using software tools such as EnergyPlus, Radiance and Daysim. Interrelations between those effects are analyzed with respect to thermal and visual comfort condition. Electric lighting consumption is calculated first and the thermal effect of artificial lighting is set as an input to the heating and cooling performance calculation. The analyses show that the site thermal performance depends on the arrangement of the urban geometry according to solar gains and there is a correlation between energy savings and efficient urban design. The simulation results are va...

In order to make the cities more liveable at night and to reflect the promised value of the city ... more In order to make the cities more liveable at night and to reflect the promised value of the city during the night, zone lighting should be considered rather than single building lighting. Zone lighting design prevents light pollution and provides a more comfortable perception of the desired elements in the city skyline. In this context, the factors affecting zonal lighting design were specified by literature study and stages of such design were determined. The axis of Mevlana – Mevlana Culture Centre, given the tourism potential at night in Konya, which is considered the capital of religious tourism in Turkey, was chosen as a study area and a lighting design proposal was prepared for this zone. According to plans, holistic zone lighting simulation models were created and the city skyline formed by illuminance at night was overviewed.

Only very few software tools are available that calculate the influence of mutual shading of buildings and topography on the energy demand. If lighting electrical energy is also considered, the simulations become more complex, as the sky models need to be realistically represented. In this work, the classification of generic urban forms is combined with the site thermal properties and the building types. For selected forms and typology detailed simulations of heating, cooling and daylighting for different parameters (site coverage, building age and thermal standards) were carried out on building level to consider precisely the shading situation from neighbouring buildings. To validate the different simulation tools used, a case study was choosen from the urban area Schärnhauser Park near Stuttgart. As a result this research gives the quantified detailed energy demand for different settlement types for urban designers and energy management planers, who then can estimate the energy demand of the different urban quarters without socio economic context. In the paper the different energy performance of urban forms will be compared for different climates with varying heating, cooling and daylighting situations.

The work tries to quantify the overall urban impact on primary energy demand for both residential and commercial urban districts. For a given urban form and building structure, different building use profiles are compared, for example occupation hours, required heating and cooling set points, lighting levels etc., which vary strongly between commercial and residential buildings. Mainly high rise buildings are considered with varying site coverage, building standards and user profiles. To combine heating, cooling and lighting energy evaluation of buildings in an urban context, different software tools such as EnergyPlus and Radiance are used. Especially for lighting simulations, the location of window surfaces and sky view factors are very important, less so for heating and cooling simulations. The simulation acc...

ABSTRACT The impact of the urban form on the energy demand of buildings is difficult to quantify ... more ABSTRACT The impact of the urban form on the energy demand of buildings is difficult to quantify as, usually, the mutual shading of buildings in urban settings is not included in dynamic building simulations. As a result, there is not much information available on how the total primary energy demand is affected by the specific urban form.In this work, various generic urban forms for residential building quarters were analysed with regard to their overall energy performance. For selected forms, detailed simulations of the heating and cooling energy demand were carried out, including the shading effects of neighbouring buildings. The parameters chosen for the urban form variation include the site density, settlement and building typology (block structures, row houses, multi-family houses, high-rise, etc.), building age and national thermal standard. Using the geometrically simplified model, parameter variations were carried out to calculate the impact of the urban form on the total energy demand. In heating dominated climates, the energy demand for heating increases between 17% and 25% for site densities between 30% and 60%. For a given urban site, compact, multi-family apartment blocks provide the lowest CO2 emissions per capita.
