Various treatment options are available, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroid injections, orthosis and physiotherapy. This study compared the effects of physiotherapy (Stretching exercises) with a local injection of platelet-rich plasma in the treatment of chronic plantar fasciitis. Material and Method: In this study, patients were randomly divided into 2 groups of 25 each. Patients were assessed on a visual analogue pain scale and on the ankle and hind paw scale of the American Society of Orthopedic Foot and Ankle (AOFAS) before and after treatment after 4 weeks and 4 months. Results: The average score on the visual analog scale in physiotherapy groups (Stretching exercises) and in plasma with a high platelet content decreased from 7.24 and 7.02 before treatment to 2.82 and 3.34. Rich in platelets, it improved from 51.56 and 53.72 before treatment to 87.24 and 81.32 in 4 months. There was a significant improvement in the visual analog scale and AOFAS in physiotherapy (Stretching exercises) and in groups of platelet-rich plasma after 4 weeks and 4 months. Conclusion: The authors concluded that physiotherapy is also effective as injection of plasma, enriched with platelets, in the treatment of chronic plantar fasciitis.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of bipolar hip prosthesis (Uncemented) in intracapsular ractures of neck of femur in certain cases and various modalities to be followed and to assess the functional outcome of bipolar hemiarthroplasty in intracapsular fractures in elderly patients. The prosthesis was impacted with gentle blows in to the medullary canal and then finally the prosthesis was reduced in to the acetabulum. Materials and Methods: A total of 65 patients with femoral neck fracture were included into the study. The surgery was performed by the extraction of the head of femur by the posterolateral approach. Results: The outcome of the surgery was excellent in more than 75% of the cases. Among the complications post-surgery, there was superficial infection in 4.6% of the patients, 3.1% had dislocation of prosthesis witho...

Subset of patients with fracture in subtrochanteric and supracondylar region have shown higher rate of complications than shaft fractures when treated with titanium elastic nailing system. The purpose of the present study was to retrospectively evaluate the outcomes and complications of titanium elastic nail fixation of subtrochanteric femur fracture in children and young adolescents. Methods: A total of 50 children aged between 5 to 12 years with subtrochanteric femur fracture treated with titanium elastic nail between 2010-2016 were identified. A fracture that was located within 10% of the total femur length below the lesser trochnater was classified as subtrochanteric fracture. We retrospectively evaluated the outcomes and complications using Flynn TEN scoring criteria. Outcomes were classified as excellent, s...

It is not clear whether the perioperative prophylaxis of a portion of anti-infective agents is sufficient to prevent wound contamination. The purpose of this test was to evaluate whether the fight against infection of a perioperative part was successful in counteracting. Methods: Participants were administered a single antibiotic of 1 g of cefotaxime intravenously 30 minutes before surgery followed by 12 hourly for 3 days. Patient were mobilised after 12 hours and discharged on 3 rd day. The incidence of postoperative complications such as wound infections, wound resuturing, etc. was monitored. Results: The study included 50 clean and closed orthopaedic operations out of which only one patient had superficial wound infection. The organisms isolated from wound infection were E. coli, Pseudomonas, which were sensitive to co-trimaxozole. The normal duration of the stay was only 3 days. Conclusions: A single antibiotic of cefotaxime is equally effective, early mobilization and early discharge is useful and safe for orthopaedic surgery.

Conclusion: In our study, Bipolar hemiarthroplasty (Uncemented) was a very effective mode of repair for intracapsular fracture of the neck of femur.
