The production of various calibre of persons needed in the continuity of any discipline, professi... more The production of various calibre of persons needed in the continuity of any discipline, profession or vocation lies in the ability of its teachers, instructors, trainers and established professionals in the field in guiding, supporting and encouraging people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximize their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be. It is also true that the attainment of the goals of sustainable development initiatives in all spheres of life relies in the effective mentoring of people who play a two-way role of contributing personal skills, talents, expertise and education to developing others and also to national development. Same is true of entrepreneurship. This study examines the vital role of business education and practitioners in mentoring business students and other business minded persons in taking up entrepreneurship rather paid employment as a sustainable lifelong apparatus. The study also examines business education mentoring process as the most potent weapon essentially needed in the continuing professional development of entrepreneurs. It reveals that to maximize the learning and study of entrepreneurship at the various stages of education, an effective mentoring process capable of enhancing the transfer of entrepreneurial knowledge, values, and skills and one that facilitates the adjustment of people's mindset for retirement in business becomes imperative. The study concludes that in order to foster lifelong entrepreneurship spirit, growth and sustainable development, mentors who are ready to make sacrifices and build a good name today for tomorrow's posterity are needed to build a strong and high quality business manpower base.
As a means of enhancing their human capital index (HDI), adding value to socioeconomic base and i... more As a means of enhancing their human capital index (HDI), adding value to socioeconomic base and increasing human and organizational productivity, strengthening institutional and legal framework for citizens capacities, nations of the world backed up by bilateral funding agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGO's), development agencies like the United Nations family, the African Union, the European Commission and others spend millions of dollars in capacity building initiatives to reposition societies for an enhanced sustainable development. Based on the foregoing, this paper examines the contributory effect of capacity building initiatives to Nigeria's sustainable development agenda; the pros and cons of capacity building, cost and benefit of capacity building, success and failure of past and present Nigeria's capacity building programmes and the policy directives necessary for sustaining human capacity building. The paper proffered plausible justification for a corruption free human capacity building and development schemes and its efficient management in order to achieve the goal of sustainable development in Nigeria.
