We have developed a thin film template based nanostructure synthesis technique that is applicable for the development of high performance electronic and photonic devices on silicon, glass and other planar substrates. The technique is based on the anodization of a thin film of aluminum to form an alumina template;. synthesizing the active material inside these nanoscale pores then forms the nanostructures. We are currently using the above template-based technology for the fabrication of a variety of devices including (i) nanostructure-based solar cells, (ii) narrowband optical detectors, (iii) electro-optic modulators and (iv) Coulomb-blockade devices.

The nanostructure based coatings will consist of a layer of nanoporous alumina with the pores filled with an oxidizing metal such as Cr, followed by a capping layer of alumina. Alumina, which is a robust anti-corrosion material, provides corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures. The Cr serves two purposes: (1) it acts as a solid filler material for the pores in the alumina, enhancing its mechanical and chemical integrity, and (2) it acts as a second layer of defense against corrosion by providing a replenishable source of Cr (for the formation of a Chromium oxide protective layer) in case the alumina layer is compromised. The innovation of this project is the use of a nanoporous alumina layer for the coating, wh...

One can use this detector set-up for the scanning of high purity germanium detectors for pulse shape analysis in gamma-ray spectroscopy experiments and the image formation of an object by Compton back-scattering . The sensor has been tested for energy, timing and position information of the gamma-rays interacting within the detector crystal. The GEANT4 simulation results are consistent with the experimental results. We have reconstructed the image of irradiation spots in different positions throughout the detector crystal. Position resolution is found to be around 3.5 mm with the 2 mm collimated gamma-rays. The 2-d image of hexagonal Bismuth Germanate (BGO) crystal and a cylindrical LaBr3(Ce) crystal have been reconstructed in coincidence technique. The performance of the detector for imaging application has be...

Research paper thumbnail of An investigation on corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of laser remelted flame sprayed coating

Advances in Materials and Processing Technologies

These coatings were remelted using a 2 kW fiber laser. Inherent lamellar structure of the thermal sprayed coatings was found to be obliterated after laser remelting. Columnar grains were found to grow perpendicular to the coating surface upon laser remelting. A reduction in surface roughness of the coatings was found after laser remelting. Mechanical properties like microhardness, Modulus of elasticity of the laser treated layer was found to be higher as compared to the as-sprayed coating. Corrosion resistance of both laser treated and non-treated coating was investigated using boiling H2SO4 solution. Laser treated coating performs better as compared to flame sprayed coating owing to dense coating morphology.

Carbamate group of pesticides are also use for the same manner. Because of the ease of their availability and low cost the insecticides are often misused for homicidal and suicidal and sometime in accidental poisoning. Identification of those pesticides becomes essential to protect the ecology/mankind from the adverse effect of pesticide residues and forensic toxicology and criminology purposes.

These derivatives bind with MAP-kinase p-38. A Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) model was developed using 16 compounds and its ability was verified by a set of nine compounds. Several graph theoretical indices were computed along with quantum chemical parameters and regression equations constructed. A series of triazine derivatives has also been designed and their activity predicted. Some compounds which have high predicted activity are also suggested.

Mechanical scarification and concentrated sulphuric acid treatment erase the testa-imposed dormancy in seeds. Albizia procera Benth. (Fabaceae) produces a large number of testa-imposed dormant seeds which possess the ability to germinate 100% after either mechanical scarification or 30 minutes concentrated sulphuric acid treatment. These treatments affect the ultrastructures of hilar region and also the testa surface. The affected regions facilitate the water uptake which result in 100% germination.

Research paper thumbnail of Efficient Designing Approach of Different Synchronous Cyclic Code Counters by Sequential Circuit Elements of a Novel Reversible Gate

2014 International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Communication Networks, 2014

Reversible logic is widely being considered as the probable logic design style for implementation... more Reversible logic is widely being considered as the probable logic design style for implementation in modern nanotechnology, optical computing and quantum computing with least impact on physical entropy as because of its less power dissipation as well as distinct output assignment for each distinct input. A reversible circuit maps each output vector into a unique input vector, and vice versa. This paper proposes a new reversible gate. This paper represents various classical operations of this proposed reversible gate. It also represents different sequential circuit elements of reversible gate and its application in designing different synchronous cyclic code counters. The proposed reversible gate is better for designing reversible counter compared to those gates reported in the literature in terms of garbage output, quantum cost and complexity of gates. These synchronous reversible counters give the initial threshold to construct the more complex structure having reversible sequential circuits as a primary component and which can implement more complex operations using quantum computers. Since the output of a sequential circuit depends not only on the present inputs but also on the past input conditions, the construction of sequential elements using reversible logic gates is quite complex than that of a combinational circuit. This paper proposes reversible D flip flop, JK flip flop, T flip flop and also represents two types of 4 bit synchronous cyclic code decade counter (SCCDC) and a 4 bit synchronous gray cyclic code counter (SGCCC) using proposed reversible T flip flop. A comparison between these designs in terms of garbage output, number of gates, constant input and total logical calculation also has been made.
