The Neolithic societies in Southeastern Anatolia Region depict the female figurines in a stereotyped style starting from the beginning of the period. The most prominent feature for this form of depiction encountered in the early period is that the female figurines are depicted in sitting position with hands joined in the front side. The female figurine on display at Adıyaman Museum also features similar depiction characteristics. This study shall dwell on the general characteristics and the depiction style of the female figurines in the Neolithic Period and shall give information on the female figurine on display at Adıyaman Museum.

Neolithic, Paleolithic centers and trap areas were discovered in the area, as a result of 4 years of surface survey. Tepehan Mound is the most important and large-scale settlement among the Neolithic settlements discovered in 2017. Tepehan Höyük with its 112 decare area is the fourth largest mound after Göbekli Tepe, Karahan Tepe and Ayanlar Höyük, which are all located in the area. In addition to this, in 2017 many settlements belong to Late Roman have been identified. Key Words: Şanlıurfa, Neolithic Period, Tepehan Höyük, Göbekli Tepe, Karahan Tepe, Ayanlar Höyük, Paleolitic Period, Tektek Mountains.

ABSTRACT 10.th BC, in the PPNA Period, Neolithic communities lived in the Southeast Anatolia Region illustrated various animals figures on the steles made of limestone. These depictions were embroidered on their flattened surface of the steles. Some were made with high relief technique and some with low relief technique. The most interesting animal figure among these animal reliefs is the figure of desert monitor (Varanus griseus), which depiction is controversial. In Göbekli Tepe, the figures of monitor depicted on steles and stone plates are a reptile named desert monitor, which can be seen even in the area today, and it is carnivore, shy and afraid of people. In this study, the general characteristics of the desert monitor depicted in the Neolithic period and the way it's depiction in the Neolithic period will be emphasized. Ayanlar Höyük dated to the Pre-Pottery Neolithic Period, is a largescale mound like Göbekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe, covering an overall surface area of 14 hectares. It was learned recently that three artefacts dated to the Pre-Pottery Neolithic period which are held by Sanlıurfa Museum were brought from Ayanlar Höyük. The artefacts in Sanlıurfa Museum and the finds recovered from Ayanlar Höyük during a surface survey have been identified as having characteristics similar to those from Körtik Tepe, Göbekli Tepe, Nevali Çori and Karahan Tepe. Consequently, Ayanlar Höyük should be dated between the early Pre-Pottery Neolithic Period B (EPPNB) and the mid-Pre-Pottery Neolithic Period B (MPPNB).

The paper also endeavours to show analogous characteristics of Harbetsuvan Tepesi by comparing the site with PPN settlements in adjacent regions. The remains of a round-plan building, a recent discovery observed on the surface in Harbetsuvan Tepesi, which features T-shaped pillars, is particularly notable. The remains of this building, which has characteristics analogous to ‘Enclosure F’ at Göbekli Tepe, is extremely important, as it demonstrates that round-plan buildings were still in use during the early PPNB period.

The presence of T-shaped pillars was ascertained at Ayanlar Höyük and Kurt Tepesi cult sites. Other settlements are domestic settlements arranged around cult centre settlements. Some sites belong to Pre Pottery Neolithic, and the others to Pottery Neolithic. They are believed to be coeval with
Göbekli Tepe and Nevali Çori cult sites.
