The more severe the brain injury, the greater the impact on the inflammatory response. Therefore, this study aims to determine the histopathological description of edema in rat brain cells after TBI and to analyze the relationship between differences in trauma burden and histopathological features of brain cell inflammation, hematoma, and edema in mice after traumatic brain injury. This study uses an experimental observational-analytical research design. Sprague-Dawley mice were used as research subjects and divided into four cluster groups (and one control group) with varying trauma-loading interventions. The trauma loads given were 20 grams, 40 grams, 60 grams, and 80 grams. Following the trauma load application, the mice's brains were biopsied one hour after the interve...

Most brain injuries occur on highways as a result of motorcycling accidents. The only effective way to reduce the death rate from brain injury that occurs in motorcycle accidents is to wear a helmet. Cases of brain injury due to traffic accidents are often found in adolescents because of the lack of understanding of the importance of helmet use. Therefore, education is needed about the importance of using standard helmets when driving among teenagers. The counseling activity was carried out in one of the senior high schools (SMA) in Mataram with the dominant target of teenagers using motorized vehicles. The selected high school is SMA Negeri 2 Mataram. The method of implementing this counseling is by giving lectures on brain injury, the mechanism of trauma and brain injury and the importance of using standard head protective equipment (SNI helmets), playing videos about head trauma and interactive dialogue...

Method The study sample was a severe TBI which classified from initial glasgow coma scale (GCS) score ≤8 in the West Nusa Tenggara General Hospital, who met the inclusion criteria in between 2016 and 2018 time periode. All samples underwent urgent subdural drainage management and also tracheostomy. Clinical outcome were assesed by the glasgow outcome scale (GOS). All analyses determined by the Medical Record data. Result 62 severe TBI patients who underwent subdural drainage and early tracheostomy procedures consisting of 53 (85.5%) men and 9 (14.5%) women. The average age of the study subjects was 30.47 years old with the youngest age of 3 years old and the oldest was 77 years old. The outcome of the study subjects consisted of 48 patients survived (77.4%) and 14 patients died (22.6%). Conclusion Subdural drainage and early tracheostomy are recommended novel to perform on severe TBI patient in the area with the modest neurosurgical settings, due to lower mortality rate and better end result.

This research is a clinical research with Quasi-Experimental method . The experimental design used was one group pre-post test. The research design of one group pretest-posttest was measured using a pre-test which carried out before being given treatment and post-test carried out after being treated. The population of this study was all post-neurosurgical patients that treated at the West Nusa Tenggara General Hospital. Each patient who underwent surgery and included within research criteria was given Snakehead Fish (Channa striata) up to 3 weeks after surgery and the wound has healed. The sample consisted of 37 patients with criteria of over 18 years of age and no kidney disorders (proteinuria). The results of the data distribution of 37 patients stated that there were 12 males (32.4%) and 25 females (67.6%). The most number of diagnosis were...

Traffic accidents are the main cause of TBI (60%) followed by falls (20%–25%) and violence (10%). Computed tomography (CT) is recommended for initial assessment in emergency services. Not only provides information and diagnosis to identify surgical needs, but also helps in evaluating patients and outcomes. Method A retrospective study conducted using medical record data of neurosurgery patients who met the inclusion criteria in West Nusa Tenggara General Hospital in 2015 until 2017. The sample size is determined by consecutive sampling method. Result Sample size was 209 patients. Male patients more common than female (78.95%). The highest age group at 21–30 years (21.53%) with average age was 31.66 years old. The initial median GCS was 10 points. The most common cause was motor vehicle accidents (MVA) with 176 cases (84.21%). The highest mortality rate was found in the severe brain injury group with 31 patients (14.83%). Average duration of treatment were 7.58 days. Conclusion There was a significant relationship between age, initial GCS value, mortality rate, and length of stay for TBI patients with outcome predictions based on CT Marshall classification.

Clinical worsening and coma may occur in addition to these symptoms of cerebellar dysfunction. Timely and careful approach will certainly prove to be life saving when deciding for a shunt procedure in a patient developing obstructive hydrocephalus following cerebellar infarct. The case presented here is a reminder for both this rare complication, and the treatment approach. We present a patient with cerebellar infarct and secondary obstructive hydrocephalus. Forty three year old male patient was brought to the emergency room in our hospital with unconsciousness, before that patient with suddenly developing dizziness, loss of balance and vomiting. His neurological examination showed that he was coma. The patient's brain computed tomography scan showed severe third and lateral ventricular dilation suggestive of obstructive hydrocephalus. Following shunt placement and suboccipital decompression, the patie...

Traumatic extradural haematoma (EDH) is a neurosurgical emergency and timely surgical intervention for significant EDH is the gold standard. This study aims to determine the incidence and mortality of consecutive patients with traumatic EDH admitted to the Emergency Department (ED) of Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, Airlangga University in Surabaya. Material and methods Retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data for all consecutive trauma cases admitted through the ED during January 2009–May 2012. EDH was diagnosed by CT in all cases. Both primary and delayed onset EDH were included, as were patients with combined EDH and other intracranial lesions (e.g. subdural haematoma). Age, sex, cause of injury, associated intracranial lesions, skull fracture, Glasgow Coma Scale, pupil reactivity, and clinical outcome were determined. Results We performed a chart review of 268 patients had complete data admitted to the emergency department with EDH diagnosed by CT scan and surgically treated between January 2009 and May 2012, mean of 15.41 patients per month. Seventy (77%) patients were male, with a mean age of 27.1 years. Sixty (73.86%) patients were from road traffic crashes, 40 (14.92%) sustained falls, 7 (2.61%) had direct head trauma. On admission, 81 (30%) patients were GCS 14–15, 116 (43%) GCS 9–13 and 71 (27%) GCS 3–8. Overall, 79 patients (29%) had anisocor pupils. Thirty-one patients (11.56%) died after neurosurgical operation. Conclusions Outcome of EDH depends on the several factors, including trauma operation interval, patient's age, clinical status preoperative and associated other extracranial injury.
