Weightlifters produce strength and power in the vertical plane, while canoeists produce strength ... more Weightlifters produce strength and power in the vertical plane, while canoeists produce strength and power in the horizontal plane. The purpose of the study is to examine the difference between isometric strength and ballistic force of athletes in weightlifting and canoeing, at which strength and power production occurs in different planes. 84 athletes aged 14-21 were included in the study. Demographic information of the athletes was taken on a working day and a standard warm-up protocol was applied. Dynamic Strength Index (DSI) was calculated to evaluate the ballistic force. Data for DSI were obtained by Opto-Jump device with counter-movement jump (CMJ) test and Isometric Mid-Thigh Test (IMTP). The IMTP test was performed with the Kistler+Noraxon Measurement Device to evaluate isometric strength. According to the findings of the study, the ballistic force, jump height and DSI values of male weightlifters had higher values than male canoe athletes (p0.05). While the jump height and ...

Methods: Seventeen track and field jumping athletes were included in the study. The athletes were randomly allocated to the facilitation or inhibition group and the kinesio tape was applied to both gastrocnemius muscles of the athletes. The squat, free jump, and active jump heights of the athletes were assessed with the Microgate optojump® measuring device before taping and 24 hours after taping while the tape was on. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in age, body weight, height, and body mass index values (p> 0.05). It was determined that the squat, free and active jump heights before and after banding of the facilitation and inhibition groups and the power values produced during these jumps were similar and there w...

This study aimed to evaluate the most accurate field method to predict BF% in Olympic wrestlers compared to BF% estimated by air displacement plethysmography (ADP). Sixty-one male (body mass 72.4 ± 13.5 kg; height 170.3 ± 7.0 cm; body mass index (BMI) 24.9 ± 3.5 kg.m−2; BF% 8.5 ± 4.9%) and twenty-five female wrestlers (body mass 60.3 ± 9.9 kg; height 161.3 ± 7.1 cm; BMI 23.1 ± 2.5 kg.m−2; BF% 18.7 ± 4.7%) undertook body composition assessments including ADP and nine-site skinfold measurements. Correlations, bias, limits of agreement, and standardized differences between alterations in BF% measured by ADP and other prediction equations were evaluated to validate measures, and multiple regression analyse...

Materials and Methods: Twelve elite male regularly trained pentathletes aged 24-40 years were participated in the study. Fasting blood samples were taken from the athletes 24 hours after the last training session at sea level. After that, athletes were performed altitude training at 2500 meters for 4 weeks and 24 hours after the last training session fasting blood samples were taken again. In the blood samples malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH) levels and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were analyzed. Results: In the athletes, after the altitude training MDA and GSH were levels increased (P < 0.05), but SOD activity were not changed (P > 0.05) compared to the pre-training. Conclusion: According to the results obtained from this study, altitude training increased oxidative stress and improved non-enzymat...

However, in humans the regulation of irisin and myostatin by exercise especially acute high intensity interval exercise is not completely understood. PURPOSE: To determine irisin and myostatin responses to acute high intensity interval exercise in elite kickboxers and sedentary controls. METHODS: Ten male elite kickboxers and ten genderand age-matched healthy sedentary controls participated in this study. Participants performed 4 X 30-s bursts of all-out maximal intensity cycling interspersed 4 min of rest. Blood samples were obtained immediately before and after exercise, and after 3 and 6 h of recovery. Plasma irisin and myostatin levels were analyzed by ELISA method in these samples. RESULTS: The resting irisin levels were higher in the kickboxers than sedentary controls (2.26 ± 0.60 vs 1.64 ± 0.32 μg mL -1 , P < 0.05). Immediately after the exercise irisin levels were decreased in both kickboxers and sedentary controls (1.43 ± 0.50 vs 1.38 ± 0.26 μg mL -1 , P < 0.05). Irisin levels were returned to the baseline levels 3 and 6 h of the recovery (1.88 ± 0.59 vs 1.43 ± 0.26 and 1.88 ± 0.75 vs 1.43 ± 0.28 μg mL -1 , P < 0.05). Myostatin levels were not different between the groups at rest (2652.31 ± 960. 87 vs 2501.54 ± 678.32 pg mL -1 , P > 0.05). It was increased in both groups immediately after the exercise (2914.46 ± 1011.62 vs 2939.08 ± 839.18 pg mL -1 , P < 0.05) and returned to the baseline levels in the kickboxers (2608.92 ± 890.59 pg mL -1 , P < 0.05) but not sedentary (2849.54 ± 1028.64 pg mL -1 , P > 0.05) 3 h of the recovery. CONCLUSION: These findings suggested that acute high intensity interval exercise affects irisin and myostatin levels in both kickboxers and sedentary.

An injury that occurs during the competition that causes withdrawal from the competition and a possible departure from sports, can render results athletes' and their support staff's efforts as meaningless. The early detection of injuries in the competition and developing preventive training programs can help ensure that participating in competitions and the associated preparatory efforts are not wasted. In this study, the sports injuries discussed occurred during training and competition events of the Turkish Shooting Sportive group. Body parts of injuries are determined and exercise programs focused on the affected body parts are developed. METHODS A total of 729 athletes (285 female, 444 male) who participated in Turkish Shooting Sports Championship during the 2010-2011 competition period participated in the study. Athletes were given a questionnaire that w...
