These lotic ecosystems are among the freshwater bodies most vulnerable to pollution being responsible for the transport of industrial and municipal effluents and the flow from agricultural areas [2-3]. In addition, pollution and anthropogenic activities directly affect the water body due to the settlement of rivers. In addition, pollution sources may be pointed or distributed throughout the region with a scattered flow regime. In addition, many environmental problems, leachate from mining areas, agricultural irrigation, sewage, and heavy metals from wastes are pollution to water bodies [4]. The wastewater treatment plants built to prevent pollution are economically unviable, lead to water quality degradation, and reduce biodiversity [5]. Due to their toxicity and bioaccumulation ability; heavy metals are considered one of the most persistent pollutants in aquatic ecosystems [6]. While most heavy metals are considered toxic at higher concentrations, some of them have effects, albeit minor, on aquatic life. The pathway through the food chain poses significant environmental and health risks to invertebrates, fish, and humans [7-9]. Heavy metal pollution resulting from

Our results showed significant seasonal variations in phytoplankton dynamics. Microzooplankton was mainly composed of dinoflagellates and tintinnid ciliates and nauplii. Microzooplankton grazing increased with increasing of temperature. Grazing rate was maximum levels in spring and summer. Microphytoplankton, which dominated the total algal biomass and production, were characterized by the proliferation of several chain-forming diatoms. Small heterotrophic flagellates and aloricate ciliates were the main controllers of phytoplankton. Phytoplankton represented a significant for micrograzers, which grazing represented 20-120% of diatom and cynabacteria algal production during 2006-2007. Microzooplankton has, however, a relatively high impact on microphytoplankton, as > 45% of microalgal production was consumed throughout the year. These results suggest that the low grazing was one of the factors contributing to the development of the spring bloom. All of seasonal bases, the phytoplankton production were grazed by microzooplankton in summer, autumn and winterspring seasons have been changing between 20%-120%. The seasonal variation in the microzooplankton grazing pressure seems to result from the dominant size class of the phytoplankton community of this lagoon diatom and cynabacteria.

Temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, biological oxygen demand (BOD), electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, total hardness, total alkalinity, specific conductance, calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), orthophosphate-phosphorus (PO 4 -P), ammonium (NH 4 ), nitrate (NO 3 ), nitrite (NO 2 ), chlorophyll a (Chl-a) parameters were investigated during study. Data obtained were evaluated by using multivariate statistical analysis, cluster analysis, principal component analysis and factor analysis. Uzuncayir Dam Lake is defined as a hard water lake because of the high pH and high electrical conductivity and total solids content as the result of the high content of dissolved anions and cations. Principal components (PCA) analysis revealed in two different clusters to the similarities among the stations reflected different physico-chemical properties and the level of pollution in Uzuncayir Dam Lake. Three potential factors were determined explaining 100% of the total variation of the data. In component 1, 17.7 % of all variation had Mg, NH 4 and NO 2 . According to the component 2 and 3 the results showed that 34.95 % of all variation stem from agricultural drainage and nutrient, from physical parameters of 68.2 %. In analyses of cluster, one group (10 station) was found to affect directly the activities of domestic and agricultural land. Based on the Surface Water Quality Management (A and B group), it was concluded that Uzuncayir Dam Lake had high quality and slightly contaminated and the appropriate structure for many activities such as agricultural irrigation, drinking water supply, trout and other fish production.

Hantzschia amphioxys species, on which this study was carried on, are benthic diatoms and they are isolated from Homa Lagoon. The Monod equation expressing the nutrient dependency of the growth rates can also be used for carrying capacity (with different parameter values; chl-a max, K s ı). Temporal changes of the calculated maximum chl-a concentrations (carrying capacity) was 115 µg chl-a/L by determining the hyperbolical relations between the maximum biomass levels (biomass carrying capacity) and nutrient concentrations obtained from the phytoplankton growth graphs.

In this study, we investigated the effects of temperature, salinity and nutrient on the growth of C. gracilis. The possibility for nutrient limitation to affect C. gracilis was assessed from two different ecosystems (Izmir Bay and Homa Lagoon). Our goal was to determine the growth rate of all nutrients and the maximum levels of the C. gracilis phytoplankton biomass (the maximum biomass carrying capacity) on the extent of its full growth and the level at which the nutrient restrictive growth keeps the biomass (biomass carrying capacity) and the nutrient(s) that sustain its year long growth. Nutrients significantly increased Izmir Bay and Homa Lagoon water's carrying capacity throughout the year and it was found out that the nutrients which restricted the carrying capacity and the growth rate were nitrogenous compounds.

This study was carried out to monitor water quality in Uzuncayir Dam Lake from May 2013 to March ... more This study was carried out to monitor water quality in Uzuncayir Dam Lake from May 2013 to March 2014 based on monthly sample monitoring from ten stations.

Çevre parametrelerinden; sıcaklık, tuzluluk, çözünmüş oksijen, pH, nitrat, nitrit, amonyum, fosfat, silikat konsantrasyonları ölçüldü. Nütrient zenginleştirme denemeleri alınan su örnekleri sıcaklığı benzetilmiş ortamda (bioassay) aylık olarak gerçekleştirildi. Fitoplankton komünitesinin büyüme cevabı invivo klorofil a ölçümleriyle yapıldı ve fitoplankton büyüme hızıyla ifade edildi. Homa Dalyan'ının fitoplankton tür kompozisyonu bakımından yıl boyunca genellikle diyatomlarca zengin olduğu, bununla beraber zaman zaman da dinophycea ve ciliata üyelerinin nicel açıdan baskın olduğu gözlendi. Toksik türlere rastlanmadı ve sonuçlar çevre parametreleriyle birlikte tartışıldı. Süspanse kil minareleri içeren dalyan suyunda hücre abundansları çok düşüktü. Gelecekte mikrozooplankton otlamasının belirlenmesi; hem primer üretimin öne...

Median (LC50) and minimum (LC1O) lethal concentrations of copper sulfate on Nile tilapia were determined via acute tests. LC50 values of copper sulfate for the 48 , 72 and 96 hours were 13.15, 12.95 and 12.85 mg/L, respectively. LC10 values of 12, 11 and 9.5 mg/L were obtained for similar exposure periods (48 , 72 and 96 hours), respectively. The effects of 1.5 mg/L dose of copper sulfate on growth rate, gross clinical observations and blood biochemical parameters of Nile tilapia were evaluated after 35, 65 and 95 days of exposure periods. The differences of growth rates between control and copper sulfate-exposed groups were not significant (P>0.05) at the end of 35, 65 and 95 days. Continuous exposure of Nile tilapia to 1.5 mg/L concentration of copper sulfate in water solution for three periods (35, 65 and 95 days) decreased the total protein, a...
