Considering the fact that languages are defined by users and remains in constant evolution, the m... more Considering the fact that languages are defined by users and remains in constant evolution, the main goal of this paper is to focus on how to reflect the contemporary situation through the terms relating to the period of crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic. The descriptive contrastive dimension of the analysis (ACD) is proposed with reference to the Italian-Polish context and with regard to the different language solutions (semantic, semiotic and structural) such as: resemantization, types of loanwords (adapted and not adapted, semantic casts and structural casts), medical technicalities, vocabulary of politicians and others government institutions. Referring to some theories, implemented in today’s circumstances, such as the linguistic relativism of Benjamin Lee Whorf (1950 : 52-55) and the observations of Ludwig Wittgenstein (1953), current article current article also reflects the application of Aristotle’s considerations concretized in Rhetoric (330 BCE).

The article takes up some of the more troublesome problems in the modern Italian, namely the ques... more The article takes up some of the more troublesome problems in the modern Italian, namely the question of competition di/da. After a rather detailed account of the historical and genetic aspects of this phenomenon, the authors synthetically surveyed linguists' opinions on the subject. In the final part of the article was described in some detail the functioning of the di /da prepositions in modem Italian, trying to show factors which determine their distribution.

This study examines some formulations which raise doubts as they allow themselves to be interpret... more This study examines some formulations which raise doubts as they allow themselves to be interpreted in an equivocal mode in the course of learning and teaching of specialist Italian. To illustrate the complexity of these lexical/terminological solutions based on consultations and opinions, managed by doctors and professionals in medicine with free access on the website of www.corrieredellasera.it, in the Medicine section: Health. The classification of the examples is based on the subdivision established by Lepschy on enantiosemy. The description completes the clarifications adapted to the concepts of signification, meaning and comprehension.

This article directs attention to some particular features of language acquisition and contrastiv... more This article directs attention to some particular features of language acquisition and contrastive analysis in teaching L2. Presented comments refer to Polish learners of Italian language. Contrastive grammar mentioned in the article refers to the method widely used in glottodidactics which identifies the similarities and differences between two language systems. This leads to the improvement of the learning process and as a result – language competition.

Teaching practice of Italian for special purposes in a Polish academic setting. The case of Itali... more Teaching practice of Italian for special purposes in a Polish academic setting. The case of Italian in medicine The present analysis aims at systematizing sparse remarks revolving around teaching of languages for special purposes (LSP). Detailed data were collected by observation within Polish academic circles. More precisely, they are based on past working experience gained among students boasting a high level of language proficiency. Apart from general tendencies, more streamlined requirements have been formulated on a par with their particular consequences.
The aim o f this article is to illustrate the complexities o f relations at the level o f verbal ... more The aim o f this article is to illustrate the complexities o f relations at the level o f verbal communication between two separate environments: patients and physicians. Many terms used while addressing physicians are related to and depend on their professional activities. The way o f expressing thoughts and the choice o f lexical items reflect emotional states and reactions to certain facts and standards o f behaviour. We know o f many possible linguistic reactions to specific real-life situations and the choice o f lexical items depends upon both sociolinguistic factors (level o f education o f the speaker, place o f residence, means of communications) as well as morphological factors (morphological processes) and semantic factors (using metaphoric expressions).
