Anemic pregnant women need to receive nutrition education. Nutrition education requires media and various studies that report the success of nutrition education using various media. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of animated media nutrition education on improving hemoglobin and nutrient intake of anemic pregnant women. Methods: The study was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest one-group design on 31 anemic pregnant women. Nutrition education media, namely animated videos, were prepared based on interviews with cadres and pregnant women. Hemoglobin levels, knowledge, attitudes, iron tablet consumption compliance, and nutrient intake were measured before and after being given animated media nutrition education. Results: The mean hemoglobin level of preg...

Anemia prevention for women is needed at earlier reproductive age to manifest healthy pregnancy, labor, and offspring. It is necessary to create an effective approach for anemia prevention in adolescent girls. AIM: The focus of this study was to prevent anemia in adolescent girls by improving their nutritional fulfillment rate through moringa leaf cookies provision and/or e-monitoring. METHODS: This research was conducted on students from two different high schools using a quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-evaluation. Moringa leaf cookies were consumed for a month on both groups. The intervention group was exposed to an e-monitoring application called “E-monitoring: Nutritional Intake” to record the amount and type of food consumed daily and provide information about personal nutrient percentage fulfilled compared to the recommended dietary allowance. RESULTS: The results show an increa...

This virus attacks CD4 which is on surface of human white blood cells, especially lymphocyte cells. Decreasing CD4 counts will cause the body's immune system to decrease, increasing the risk of opportunistic infections. This study was conducted to analyze the effect of giving cork fish nugget and fruit juice to CD4 and opportunistic infections in HIV-infected people at "Bahagia" Social Rehabilitation Center. This type of research is quasi experiment with pre and post test design. The study sample were 40 students who infected with HIV at "Bahagia" Social Rehabilitation Center who were given cork fish nuggets and colored juice for 24 days. Data analysis used paired T test on CD4 data and Wilcoxon test on data of opportunistic infections. This research was conducted in September 2018-January 2019. Collection of CD4 data carried out by blood examination using flow cyto-metri method and opportunistic infections was carried out by interview method and direct observation using an opportunistic infection form. The results showed that there was influence before and after the administration of cork fish nugget and colored fruit juice to CD4 and opportunistic infections with a value of p = 0.001. Longer term administration was needed as preventive measure for emergence of opportunistic infections and decrease in CD4 cell count.

It is estimated 13% of children deaths live in low resources setting prevented by EBF. However, the coverage of EBF is still low at rural areas. Deploying midwives at villages is one of the strategy to improve EBF. The challenges come from the manufacturing solid foods. The aim of study was to find out the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding practice and feeding patterns of children in rural areas of Serbajadi sub-district. This is a population based, cross-sectional study with questionnaire-based interview of mothers selected purposively. A total 949 children from eligible households were obtained to be the sample. Only 16.5% mothers breastfed exclusively infants <6 months. The lowest prevalence found in two villages (2.5% and 5.0%) and the highest is in Serbajadi village 56.0%. Sixty three percent of mothers had introduced solid foods for their babies <4 month of age. Maternal education and fa...

Lack of feeding skills is the major cause. World Health Organization (WHO) mentions that growth chart is a good educational tool for parents. It needs an innovation to introduce growth chart. Objective: The objective of this study is to assess the effect of scores in measuring child growth status on feeding practices and calorie intake. The hypothesis of this study is that after intervention there would be a significant improvement of feeding practices which in turn will affect the calorie intake of children in the intervention group. Materials and Methods: This study is to measure the impact of using score bubble growth chart on infant feeding practices and calorie intake. A total of 107 caregivers selected purposively from two different locations. Mothers in intervention group were trained to use score bubble growth chart while mothers in control group used the normal growth chart. Sixteen written questions were designed and tested to measure mothers’ behavior in feeding their babies. Data were analyzed using independent t-test and chi-square test. Result: Before intervention, there was no significant difference of infant feeding practices and types of food given (p > 0.05) and child calorie intake (p > 0.05) between intervention and control groups. However, after intervention, there was significant difference in exclusive breast-feeding proportion (58% vs 36%; p < 0.01), breastfed more than eight times/day (58% vs 32%; p < 0.01), breastfed more than 15 min/session (45% vs 29%; p < 0.01) and calorie intake (91.6% recommended dietary allowance [RDA] vs 76.5% RDA; p < 0.00 ) in intervention and control groups, respectively. Conclusion: Using scores in growth monitoring program improved infant feeding practices and calorie intake.
