The study included voluntary blood donors of both sexes. Participants were divided into two groups. The first group of subjects consisted of men and women in menopause (BD 1). The second group consisted of women in reproductive age (BD 2). Analysis of concentration of lipoproteins was performed by direct determination of total cholesterol, LDL-C and HDL-C. From the total serum cholesterol and concentration of lipoproteins ratios of total cholesterol/HDL-C ratio and LDL-C/HDL-C were calculated. Significantly higher concentration of LDL-C was obtained in the serum of BD 1, compared to LDL-C in the serum of BD 2, within the reference range. Mean concentration of HDL-C in the serum of BD 2 group was higher than the values measured in the BD group 1, without significant difference. The ratio of total cholesterol/HDL-C showed significantly higher values i...

It is necessary to standardize the protocols in any kind of medical treatment. Only main protocols and guidelines allow us to compare its usefulness in everyday practice doctors, medical teams and medical institutions. First, it is necessary to calculate life expectancy tables for population to whom health care system is established. Than, collecting of the data should be systematically performed by health care providers. So, if we use guidelines and standardized protocols in everyday practice we could compare medical work and with other countries which are in our interest.

To the group of 237 examinees of the healthy adolescents is determined BMI, and is measured the activity of ALT and AST. In the sample of the examinees we had 22% examinees had the increased BMI > or = 25. The examinees who had the increased BMI (> or = 25), had the significant increased values ALT, and only mildly increased values AST in relation to the upper referent values. On the basis of the simple linear regression was confirmed the positive correlation between the of body mass indexes and activities ALT i AST.

The seropositiveness to B and C hepatitis was 16.5%, what is the usual percentage for the local population. The serconversion to the positive C hepatitis occurred in one patient, and that in the first year of the dialyzed treatment, what remains the possibility the dyalizis began in the period of the incubation. The separation of the seropositive apparati for the dyalisisi from the rest made the sufficient organizational measure by the dyalized center.

To the group of 237 adolescents, male sex of 18, 19 and 20 years is measured the activity of ALT and AST. The examinees are questionnaired to the recovery from hepatitis infection. Had to the significant increased values AST, and only mildly increased values in relation to the upper referent values.

The number of unnecessary tests significantly affect the operation of health institutions. We analyzed the 1000 requests for laboratory tests at the Primary Health Care Centre in Gracanica from primary care units. Based on the requests for laboratory diagnostics advisable diagnoses from primary health care unit in the Primary Health Care Center (PHC) we made an economic analysis of the total required laboratory tests in the requests for laboratory diagnosis. Incorporating the economic analysis of laboratory tests in requests for laboratory diagnosis by doctors in primary health care (PHC) and the economic analysis of laboratory tests by the disease in primary health care. The economic value of 5333 laboratory tests was 84 312 points (1 point is 0.80 KM). Of the total value of the index score requirements of GPs are 44, 1%, the requirement of family doctors account for 40% and requirements of other specialists make up 15, 9%.. In the requests of the PHC units for laboratory tests are required all levels of services: urine, CBC, SE, glucose, bilirubine, ALT, AST, AF, CK, cholesterol, HDL chol., triglicerdes, creatinine, urea, uric acid, CRP, fibrinogen, calcium and phosphorus. The following requests are the most common laboratory tests: urine, CBC, blood glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, aminotransferases, creatinine, urea. The doctors in family practice most often requested: blood glucose, urine, CBC, SE, TGL. , Chol., ALT, AST, creatinine and urea. General practitioners were demanding more cholesterol and triglycerides, and family medicine doctors were demanding less cholesterol and triglycerides and more often CRP, fibrinogen, ALT, AST, what from the level of economic cost analysis rises the issue whether this was justified?

The study involved 60 patients, that were subdued to elective non-cardiosurgical operations in general anaesthesia. One half of the patients was administred the Clonidine, 0.2 microg/kg/min in solution, while the other half served as a control group. of the study it was evident that the Clonidine group had considerably less stress response, which was shown through variaton of cortisol levels during operation, glicemy levels and vital parameters. There was a statisticly significant difference (p < 0.001) in cortisol serum levels and glicemy beetwen these two groups. Complications during anesthesia were fewer in the Clonidine group, and the consumption of anesthetic drugs was also lower. Clonidine effects were favourable during anaesthesia.

Increased expression of 11β-HSD1 in adipose tissue has been associated with obesity and insulin resistance. In this study, we investigated the association of two 11β-HSD1 gene (HSD11B1) polymorphisms with the metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its characteristics in the Bosnian population.

Polymorphisms in the NAT2 gene have been associated with drug efficacy and toxicity as well as disease susceptibility. Recently, an association of NAT2 gene variation with risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has been suggested. This is the first study performed in a population from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH) in which the frequency of two common NAT2 polymorphisms, 341T>C (NAT2*5) and 590G>A (NAT2*6) was determined in diabetic patients. The frequency of the NAT2*5 (341T>C) and NAT2*6 (590G>A) polymorphisms was analyzed by employing TaqMan SNP Genotyping Assays (Applied Biosystems) in a group of 63 patients with T2DM and 79 nondiabetic subjects. Our data demonstrated that the frequencies of NAT2*5 (341T>C) and NAT2*6 (590G>A) polymorphisms in BH population were in line with the Caucasians genotype data. The NAT2*5 and NAT2*6 alleles were in high linkage disequilibrium (D' = 0.969). Strinkingly, there was a significant difference in genotype frequencies for NAT2*5 (p <0.05) and NAT2*6 (p <0.001) polymorphisms between diabetic and nondiabetic subjects. NAT2*5 polymorphism was associated with 2.4-fold increased risk for developing T2DM (adjusted OR = 2.40, 95% CI = 1.10-5.25, p = 0.028). On the contrary, NAT2*6 variant significantly decreased by 5-fold susceptibility to the disease (adjusted OR = 0.20, 95% CI = 0.09-0.43, p <0.001). Our data demonstrated that NAT2 genetic variation appeared to be an important risk factor in development of T2DM.

In this study we determined, for the first time, prevalence of the common allelic variants of the polymorphic CYP enzymes, CYP3A4*1B and CYP3A5*3, in the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BH). Genomic DNA was extracted from blood samples collected from 140 unrelated subjects. A real-time PCR was used for the detection of CYP polymorphisms, with the application of the specific TaqMan SNP Genotyping Assay (Applied Biosystems) for CYP3A5*3, while CYP3A4*1B was genotyped by high-resolution melting analysis. Our results have shown that the distribution of CYP3A4*1B and CYP3A5*3 alleles was in line with the data reported in European Caucasians. We confirmed that CYP3A4*1B mutant allele is rare in Caucasians, being present in only 5.1% individuals. However, CYP3A5*3 polymorp...
