Methods. The preliminary screening of six presumed STR-markers located in the proximal, central and distal parts of the HLA chromosome region (6p21.31) was performed by agarose gel electrophoresis of the PCR-fragments. The accurate genotyping of the most promising STR-markers was carried out by electrophoretic separation of the PCR-fragments in a polyacrylamide gel on an automatic laser analyzer. Results. Based on the obtained results we have selected three STRs with the highest heterozygosity indexes (HI): D6S2678-HLA class I (HI=91.4 %), DQIV-class II (HI=62.8 %) and D6S2925-class III (HI=74.3 %) as potential markers for linkage and CNV study. Conclusion. We have demonstrated that the selected panel of markers allows us to effectively solve both tasks: detection of somatic rearrangements in different parts of HLA locus in tumor samples and HLA-haplotype determination to select a suitable related donor for transplantation.

This study asses the Pattern of substance use among the admitted psychiatric patients in Department of psychiatric RNT medical college, Udaipur. Method: Pattern of Substance use were assessed from 1 st June 2014 to 31 st August 2014 admitted in psychiatric dept.(n=502) using the ICD-10 criteria for diagnosis. Results: Most patients belong to low socioeconomic status, education up to primary level. 80% patients were suffering from schizophrenic and bipolar illness. 80% of male and 23% of females were using substance. Most commonly Tobacco, alcohol and cannabis. Conclusion: Majority of subjects belongs to low socioeconomic status, about ¾ of subjects were schizophrenic and bipolar. Most common substance use was tobacco followed by alcohol in males and opium in females.

World Health Organization (WHO) define CSA as the “involvement of a child in sexual activity that he or she does not fully comprehend, is unable to give informed consent to, or for which the child is not developmentally prepared and cannot give consent, or that violates the laws or social taboos of society.” It includes a range of activities like “intercourse, attempted intercourse, oral-genital contact, fondling of genitals directly or through clothing, exhibitionism or exposing children to adult sexual activity or pornography, and the use of the child for prostitution or pornography.”

This study aimed to examine the association between remission; tobacco dependence and degree of disability in schizophrenic patients. A total of 318 consecutive patients of >2 years of illness were recruited at the Psychiatry Department of a Tertiary Care Hospital. Sociodemographic, clinical data sheet, Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale [PANSS] were applied. Symptomatic remission assessed by the Remission in Schizophrenia Working Group Symptomatic Remission Criteria (RSWG). Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND) and Indian Disability Evaluation Assessment Scale (IDEAS) were applied to assess tobacco dependence and degree of disability, respectively in the study population. Results showed that symptomatic remission was seen in 70.8% (225) while 29.2% (93) were...

Research paper thumbnail of Sexual Dysfunction Among Male Schizophrenics: A Comparison Between Psychotropic Medicines Treated and Treatment Naïve Patients

Introduction: The prevalence of sexual dysfunction (SD) is higher in persons with mental disorder... more Introduction: The prevalence of sexual dysfunction (SD) is higher in persons with mental disorders, particularly those treated with psychotropic medication. There are very few studies, especially in the Indian population, addressing the frequency of SD due to psychotropic medications. SD in schizophrenia may be a consequence of many factors; the condition itself, its socioeconomic impact and its treatment. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the psychiatric unit of a Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital in North India. A total 130 schizophrenic male patients with ICD-10 diagnosis (psychotropic treated n=82 and Treatment naive n=48) were assessed for SD by using Arizona Sexual Experience Scale (ASEX), International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF ) done in these patients. Results: In the present study prevalence of SD among psychotropic treated group was found to be 51.2% on ASEX and 84.1% on IIEF. While in treatment naive group SD was found to be 29.2% on ASEX and 66.6% ...
