n this article, the authors examine various nuances relating to demographics on race, ethnicity, ... more n this article, the authors examine various nuances relating to demographics on race, ethnicity, gender and income in the United States, and ways in which they relate to educational access, participation and achievement. These nuances persistently remain below the surface of our national consciousness, schooling experiences at all levels, and everyday discourse. Thus, it is necessary to make them explicit and, depending on their positive or negative influence, integrate them into our policies and practices or challenge and discard them. This obligatory culling of the wheat from the chaff is required if our attempts to move forward progressively and steadily in educational, societal and national reforms—meant to refine and strengthen our democracy, character, unity, capital and global competitive standing—are to have any hope of becoming a reality.

Reports have indicated a high percentage of beginning teachers leaving the teaching profession in... more Reports have indicated a high percentage of beginning teachers leaving the teaching profession in their first few years of work. This is causing huge amount of wasteful resources invested in teacher education. Planning to retain beginning teachers in the teaching profession has become an urgent challenge for educational leaders. To investigate the significance of this issue, the authors interviewed over thirty elementary school principals from Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanxi provinces in China to solicit their strategies of working with beginning teachers. The result of this study discloses many principals’ valuable right-on-target strategies deserving public attention. Chinese principals took teaching specialization as the prioritized criterion for hiring new teachers. They mentored and supervised beginning teachers. The purpose of this study is to investigate Chinese educators’ perceptions on school–community re... more The purpose of this study is to investigate Chinese educators’ perceptions on school–community relations. This is a descriptive study with quantitative and qualitative components that emerged following the solicitation, review, and analysis of 75 Chinese educators’ perceptions. On the basis of the results, we concluded that Chinese educators understood the importance of community involvement to foster student success. In response to this increased awareness, the Chinese educators also reported that they planned to work with parents and community members to foster a positive environment in support of education.
