Since the Star Wars transmedia storyworld consists of several narrative phases, with stories told over multiple platforms, its characters also have many iterations. This paper focuses on the portrayal of Darth Vader in the three main eras of Star Wars, exploring his character progression and varied forms of villainy. The Original Trilogy depicts Vader as the Dark Father of the Campbellian monomyth, the Prequel Trilogy casts him as a classical tragic hero slowly embracing evil, while the Disney era moves him fully into the gothic villain territory. Owing to the protean nature of his character, Darth Vader continues to enthral audiences, proving that his high status in the fictional pantheon is well and truly deserved.

During its long history, elegy has undergone numerous modifications, reflecting changes in both society and poetry. As it is more and more difficult to find solace either in nature or religion, contemporary elegists struggle with the expression of grief, often turning to irony or humour. Gender, too, plays an important role in the construction of mourning poetry, with the masculine elegy focusing on poetic competition and emotional substitution, and the feminine elegy relying upon connection and the process of recuperation instead. The paper analyses “Missing You”, a long poem from Penelope Shuttle’s collection Redgrove’s Wife (2006), investigating its status as a contemporary feminine elegy.

The paper examines the reception of Simic’s work in Serbian criticism, offering commentary on the translation of his poetry and its critical interpretation. Though Simic is undoubtedly part of American literary canon, and his work is informed by Modernist and Postmodernist American authors such as Williams, Stevens, or Ashbery, Serbian criticism has until very recently focused only on his origin and on the influence of his birth country on his work. By giving an overview of Simic’s major thematic and tonal elements placed within an American context, supported by numerous examples from his poems, we position him firmly within the American poetic tradition, while at the same time pointing out some elements of Serbian poetry relevant for his poetic development, like the influence of Popa, Tadić and Ristović. The phallogocentric patriarchy has, however, marginalised femininity, thus creating an imbalanced, androcentric cultural milieu. In the second half of the twentieth century, with the rise of feminism and the postmodern rejection of grand narratives, many women poets have sought to rectify this situation, bringing forth a plethora of works that address the issue. The paper explores this idea, using the mythological figure of Penelope as an example of harmful ways of constructing femininity. It also focuses on the postmodern notion of the demarginalisation of the previously voiceless, through the analysis of Carol Ann Duffy’s collection The World’s Wife. In a broader sense, it examines how contemporary women’s poetry in English reappropriates the mythological feminine.

The paper focuses on “Voyages”, a sextet of poems from the poet’s first collection, White Buildings (1926), aiming to prove that his so-called obscurity is often a result of a rather simplistic approach to poetry analysis, where the sound of the verses is dismissed in favour of a purely semantic analysis. Using some of the more recent criticism of Crane’s work, such as Reed’s and Tapper’s studies, the author argues that “Voyages” can be interpreted as a cyclical poetic rumination on the nature of love and poetry, dominated by the motif of the sea. Special attention is paid to the intertextual reading, wherein Crane’s poem is put firmly within the context of traditional love poetry by the authors such as Donne, Wordsworth, Shelley, Whitman and Rimbaud, with the last two poets providing another context, that of queer ...
