In this study, the tomato cultivar Big Beef F1 was grown in the open field (OF) and under polytunnels in central Serbia during 3 years. Polytunnels were covered with two foils (both with 57% reduced photosynthetic active radiation, PAR) differing in UV-A and UV-B transmittance. The aim of our work was to determine the influence of light conditions on accumulation of phytonutrients (carotenoids and phenolics) in the peel and flesh of ripe tomato fruits. The amount of effective antioxidants, caffeic acid, and quercetin (phenolics with ortho-dihydroxy substitution) in the peel was the highest in tomato fruits grown in the OF (maximal PAR and UV-A and UV-B radiation). Moreover, the content of leaf epidermal flavonoids was the highest in the OF. The content of lycopene and β-carotene in the flesh of tomato fruit was higher under the polytunnel with higher UV-transmittance. Our results showed that selection of the right light conditions (quality and intensity) for tomato production has a significant effect on the accumulation of beneficial phenolics and carotenoids.

ABSTRACTCarbon nanotubes have shown promising properties for applications in electronic circuits ... more ABSTRACTCarbon nanotubes have shown promising properties for applications in electronic circuits and other device structures. Several device structures have been demonstrated in recent years by manual manipulation of single nanotubes. The integration of large numbers of nanotubes on wafer size substrates, however, has been a challenge. Our approach addressing this issue utilizes nano-patterning methods in combination with plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition to directly assemble carbon nanotubes on wafer structures. A secondary formation step is used to actually form device structures connecting the nanotubes to electrode structures. We present first results demonstrating the feasibility of our approach. Electrode structures were prepared using multi-step electron beam lithography processes. Carbon nanotubes were grown in pre-defined locations, and contact formation procedures were carried out to establish multi-terminal contact structures.

The CRCE is a chamber that, unlike anechoic or reverberation chambers, provides non-uniform fading profiles for wireless devices placed within. In particular, the contribution of this work is that the CRCE is capable of creating not only Ricean and Rayleigh fading profiles, but

The work herein investigates simple diversity methods as a means to mitigate such fading which is referred to as exhibiting hyper-Rayleigh behavior. The array architecture employs a dual series feeding mechanism, where opposite ends of the array are fed with equal but anti-phase signals in order to maintain a broadside pattern over frequency. This approach facilitates the use of the 6-element panel in high gain, omni-directional arrays for airborne applications that require frequency-hopping capability. The elevation pattern stability is shown from 4.5 GHz to 5.5 GHz and the measured gain of the array is 12.6 dB.
