These products of western education used the knowledge given by education in developing the Nigerian society in diverse forms. However the tempo of this development was not sustained as a result of inept leadership that revolves everything around oil to the utter neglect of all other resources nature endows Nigeria with. This Paper x-rays the historical development of western education in Nigeria as regards labour productivity and development in the good old days and recommends going back to that period of technological ingenuity to rekindle the latent spirit of science and technology that propels development.

Hence every country that wants development has to encourage entrepreneurship. In Nigeria we have observed that entrepreneurship is an embodiment of the Igbo cosmology. However, our paper shall be centered on a new principle that appears to magnify the entrepreneurship qualities of the Igbos. This principle is called the "Cubana Principle". It is a variant of the Igbo traditional entrepreneurship life. This principle derived its name from a procedure applied by a popular businessman-Obi Cubana (Obinna Iyiegbu) in giving assistance to over fifty youths on entrepreneurship training in their various vocations. The success of this principle generated an investigation. This paper analyzes this principle and postulates that though it's a variant of the Igbo entrepreneurial character, if applied, may yield greater results in the development of the nation. The paper shall be descriptive, analytic and prescriptive in approach.

Practically every section of the Nigerian nation is accusing the others of marginalization. This paper does not aim at ascertaining who actually is marginalizing whom but tries to proffer solution to this cry so as to have a stable and securer nation. This paper highlights that federal imbalance is the main cause of this cry and balancing the federation will solve the problem permanently. This federal balancing is captured in the balancing of federal appointments in terms of cabinet formation and revenue allocation with unbiased focus on the derivative principle. This paper is of the view that the south cannot be exploited to develop the north and vice versa. The section that produces more must also receive more. Key words: Federal balancing, Federalism, Commissions, Minority groups, Nigeria

With its economic and political implications which can frustrate development, Horizontal Inequalities (multi-dimensional inequalities among identity groups rather than individuals) is an important dimension of wellbeing and correcting Horizontal Inequalities should form a significant aspect of development policy design. People act according to perceived injustices and hence perceptions of Horizontal Inequalities affect the likelihood of conflict. This paper focuses on the group dimension of inequalities which seems to be ignored/ relegated but is a recurrent causative factor of ethnic conflicts in heterogeneous societies. It also explores the power and employment distribution amongst ethnic groups in Nigeria. The paper recommends mainstreaming the perspective of Horizontal inequalities in development cooperation in Nigeria vis-a-visa redefinition of ...

Acts of insecurity occur on daily basis throughout the country. Right thinking and sane Nigerians are really concerned about this ugly trend. This paper digs into the root causes of insecurity in Nigeria, its effects on the country and proffers/suggests ways out of this nightmare. The causes amongst so many include fundamentally illiteracy, unemployment/joblessness, poor leadership, porous nature of our boarders, proliferation of arms, non-compliance with the rule of law. The effects are also there – underdevelopment, poverty, hunger, insurgency, militancy, youth restiveness, kidnapping, armed robbery, fear, drug abuse, political thuggery, etc. As part of the way out of this, this paper suggests that ‘career’ (technical) education be emphasized rather than the ‘degree’ (non-technical) education. Civics as a subject should be restored in the primary school curriculum; the country be restructur...

Its major expression appears to be within the confines of supernaturalism exemplified in various religions of the world. Symbols represent ideals in Africa and acts as the mirror of the unseen. In formal and empirical sciences symbols are codified and universalized for general acceptability. The universal acceptability has a double entendre and this is of vital importance in epistemology. The importance of symbolism cannot be over emphasized. However, how reliable are symbols as mirrors to reality? To what extent do we say that a symbol is a true representation of the ideal or absolute knowledge? The purpose of this paper is to analyze the epistemological character of symbolism in human knowledge.
