HIGHER EDUCATION LEADER TRANSFORMING LEARNING THROUGH TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION

Dr. Cheryl Boncuore is a dynamic higher education leader in online learning, adult education, and academic technology. She has worked as a pioneer in online and distance learning, and is a champion to integrate pedagogies, curricula, and new digital technologies to improve teaching and learning; she brings nearly two decades of higher education and consulting experience to her engagements.

As Dean of Faculty and Degree Programs at Lake forest Graduate School of Management, Dr. Boncuore taught Organizational Communication and Social Media courses and enjoyed working with students and faculty to ensure that academic technologies were used in innovative ways in all modalities: on-line, hybrid, video conference, and on campus. Her primary focus was curriculum alignment with institutional goals and ensuring that students became great leaders. At Lake Forest, her areas of expertise and research interests included: academic technology, pedagogy of technology, curriculum design, assessment, creating online communities of practice, and using social media to increase connections between students, faculty, and professionals in the field.

Previously, Dr. Boncuore spent eight years as Academic Director of Distance Learning at Kendall College. She worked with the faculty to develop on-line and hybrid courses and trained faculty in incorporating technology into their classroom teaching. She managed the online programs, as well as heading the instructional design team. As an instructor, Dr. Boncuore worked closely with students, teaching them how to use academic technologies and succeed in their programs. With a strong foundational belief in equality and access to exemplary education, she created the Center for Teaching and Learning to provide a safe space for students to work and meet. To provide faculty development opportunities, she developed internal conferences, training programs, and online self-paced learning modules. Dr. Boncuore won an academic grant to study the impact of social media use as part of classroom connection, and presented the findings at multiple academic conferences and to local institutions and peers.

In her teaching assignments, students regularly comment on her connection to the class, her expertise in the subject matter, and her ability to bring real-world examples to life in the classroom.

From 2003 to 2007, Dr. Boncuore served as Director of Distance Learning and Instructional Design at Roosevelt University. She collaborated with faculty members to guide instructional design of on-line courses and provided faculty development in on-line teaching to deliver high-quality learning experiences to students, providing access to quality education across the country. Dr. Boncuore was also a faculty member at Roosevelt University, teaching in the adult degree program, and earlier served as an instructional designer from 2001-2003.

Dr. Boncuore received her Ph.D. from Capella University; her M.A. in Training and Development from Roosevelt University; and her B.S. in Communications from Southern Illinois University. In addition, she earned her Certificate in Teaching Online, Capella University; a Certificate in Technology; and a Certificate in E-learning from Roosevelt University; she also has additional coursework toward an Executive MBA, Walden University. She regularly lectures and presents on Online Learning, Academic Technology, and Pedagogy at educational and professional conferences.
