Materials and Methods: Three groups of rats were randomly formed [Group 1: Sham group, group 2: Control group, group 3: Ozone treatment group]. Microscopic and macroscopic scoring were done histopathologically in all groups. Glutathione-s-transferase (GST), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were measured in the colon and liver tissue. Blood cultures were taken for the detection of bacterial translocation. Results: Microscopic damage scores were found as 0.0 (0.0-2.0) in the sham group, 3.0 (3.0-3.0) in the control group, 2.0 (0.0-2.0) in the ozone treatment group (p=0.001). Macroscopic damage scores were found as 0.0 (0.0-1.0) in the sham group, 3.0 (0.0-4.0) in the control group, 0.0 (0.0-1.0) in the ozone treatment group; the scores of ozone treatment and sham groups were found to be statistically different (p=0.004). Compared to the control group, the bacterial translocation in the liver, mesenteric lymph node, portal vein, spleen, and systemic blood was fewer in the ozone treatment group. Statistically significant differences were also observed between the groups' SOD and GST levels in colon tissue and MDA, SOD, and GST levels in liver tissue. Regarding MDA values in the liver tissue of the groups, it was 1.95±0.43 in Group I, 3.63±0.81 in Group II, and 1.19±0.72 U/mg in Group III (p=0.017). When the liver tissue SOD levels of the groups were examined, it was 8.21±0.76 U/mg in Group I, 4.57±0.58 U/mg in Group II, and 8.62±1.13 U/mg in Group III (p=0.029). When GST values in liver tissue belonging to the groups were examined, 0.35±0.16 in Group 1, 0.23±0.03 in Group II, 0.49±0.13 U/mg in Group III (p=0.036). Conclusion: Rectal ozone application plays a role in increasing the organism's antioxidant activity and has an effective role in increasing the enzyme activities of antioxidant defenses. In addition, rectal ozone application has a positive effect on wound healing at a histopathological level and reduces bacterial translocation in various tissues.

Pathological and clinical data of 44 patients who were operated for pancreatic cancer between January 2012 and January 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Neutrophil, platelet and lymphocyte counts taken from preoperative complete blood samples were recorded and SII was calculated. The formula used in the calculation of the index is SII = Platelet x Neutrophil / Lymphocyte count. A comparison of the pathological stage and other clinical pathological findings was made for the two groups, which were formed with a cutoff value of 600 for SII. Twenty (45.4%) of the patients were female and 24 (54.5%) were male. Mean patient age was 65.4 ± 5.3 (21-86). In general, as the pathological stages of the patients increased, SII was also observed to increase creating a statistically significant difference (p <0.001). The cutoff value for SII was taken as 600, forming two different groups. The difference in pathological stage distribution of these two groups was found to be statistically significant (p <0.001). The difference between the groups according to differentiation degree, CA 19-9 level, presence of pancreatitis, pT, tumor diameter was statistically significant (respectively p = 0.026, p = 0.009, p = 0.046, p = 0.047, p = 0.017). It shows that preoperative SII significantly correlates with well-established prognostic factors in pancreatic cancer patients undergoing pancreatic surgery (resection). SII measurement is both low cost and easily applicable. SII can be used in conjunction with and supporting wellestablished prognostic factors.

These zones have been identified based on the pathophysiology of the burn, and treatment of burn has been improved. The zone of necrosis is treated by excision and repair through grafting. Zone of stasis fully recovers in 24-48 h if the burn treatment is managed well. Otherwise, it may convert to a zone of coagulation. Hyperemia zone is a zone that recovers itself. Recovery of the zone of stasis is very critical in burn treatment. Active oxygen radicals produced due to the hypermetabolism due to burn wounds are known to speed to the process of the zone of stasis converting into the zone of coagulation. The present experimental study aims to evaluate the effects of sildenafil and N-acetylcysteine on the zone of stasis and to establish whether they had any contribution to wound healing in burns. METHODS: In the present study, 32 four months old female Wistar Albino rats with 200±20 gr body weights were used. The rats were divided into four groups as the sham group (Group 1), the intraperitoneal group (Group 2), Sildenafil group (Group 3, intraperitoneal 10 mg/kg for 10 days), N-acetylcysteine (Group 4, intraperitoneal 100 mg/kg for 10 days). Tissue samples were collected for serum and cytopathology studies of the Malondialdehyde level, glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, and catalyze enzyme activity. All the rats were sacrificed on the 10 th day of the tests edema, hyperemia, epithelial degeneration, necrosis, inflammatory infiltration and fibrosis measurements were made. RESULTS: When compared with the controls, both of the treatment groups had lower tissue damage scores. MDA level was lower in Group 3 and 4 compared to Group 2 and lower in Group 3 compared to Group 4. SOD, catalase and GPH-Px levels were higher in Group 3 and Group 4 compared to Group 2 and higher in Group 3 compared to Group 4. CONCLUSION: The results of our study conducted on an experimental burn model created by rats support that Sildenafil and N-acetylcysteine have positive effects, such as decreasing oxidative stress level and increasing wound healing in burns. Further experimental studies are required on this subject.

Method: Twelve male and 43 female patients who underwent parathyroidectomy between 01.01.2008 and 01.01.2018 at the Cumhuriyet University Surgical Oncology Clinic were included in the study. On the tenth preoperative and postoperative day, blood was drawn for the platelet, mean platelet volume, calcium and parathyroid hormone levels after a fasting period of twelve hours. The preoperative and postoperative calcium, parathormone levels, platelet counts, mean platelet volume values of the patients were compared in order to investigate the changes in the risk of atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease in parathyroidectomy. Results: The mean pre-operative blood calcium levels of the patients included in the study were 10.75 ± 1.49 mg / dl,. Mean postoperative blood calcium level was 8.59 ± 1.14 mg / dl. The mean preoperative mean platelet volume of the patients was 26.1 ± 121.55 fL, Postoperative mean platelet volume was 9.36 ± 1.26 fL. The mean preoperative parathormone level was 535,08 ± 711,08, The mean postoperative parathyroid hormone level was 74.47 ± 128.02 pg / ml. The mean preoperative blood platelet count of the patients included in the study was 418000 ± 8000 / mm³, The mean postoperative blood platelet count was 252000 ± 7000 / mm³. Conclusions: In our study, we found that the decrease in serum parathormone level, serum platelet level, mean platelet volume, after parathyroidectomy was statistically significant. Mean platelet volume and platelet count were decreased after parathyroidectomy, which are indicators of atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease; Parathyroidectomy reduces the risk of atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease. Additional clinical and laboratory studies are needed to support the risk of atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease after parathyroidectomy.

A wide variety of comparative performance reports from use of different levels of dietary supplem... more A wide variety of comparative performance reports from use of different levels of dietary supplements in animal production can be helpful to decision makers. However, with the complexity and amount of information in these reports, decision making as to which dietary level of supplement is to be used is difficult. This problem is overcome only when all data can be put into a common unit. For this purpose, the present study examined our previously reported data on the effects of different levels of dietary Saccharomyces cerevisiae on performance and egg quality traits of laying hens. In this survey, five different scoring methods of maximin, equally likely, weighted average, ordered weighted averages and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) were used to choose the best level (0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1 g kg-1 diet) of dietary Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The methods of equally likely, weighted average, and ordered weighted averages showed the best result at 1 g kg-1 diet of the dietary supplement but maximin and TOPSIS showed only 0.5 and 0.75 of dietary level, respectively. Overall, birds fed diet containing 0.75-1 g yeast per kg diet had better performance as compared to other groups.

The relationship between mir146a polymorphism and gastric, colon, rectum cancers have been investigated in Turkish population. Polymorphism in mir146a gene rs2961920 and rs2910164 have been determined in 212 patients (gastric: 73, colon:76 and rectum:63) and in 77 healthy controls by Real-Time PCR. Findings were evaluated by logistic regression and Khi (χ2) tests. The comparison of gastric, colon and rectum cancer patients and controls determined a statistically significant relationship for alcoholic drink consumption (p0.05). However, there was statistically significant relationship between this polymorphism and gastric cancer in GG+CG and CC genotypes when the gastric cancer patients and control group were evaluated for mir146a rs2910164 polymorphism (χ2: 5,49 p: 0,019). Similarly, there was statistically significant relationship between this polymorphism and gastric cancer in GG+CC and CG genotypes (χ2:5,39, p: 0,020). In this study, it is thought that by investigating the functions of microRNAs and their role in cancer, it may be promising in understanding the molecular pathology of cancer and in developing molecular targeted therapies.

The microsatellite instability (MSI) pathway is effective in the development of 15-20% of colorectal cancers. MSI is mainly caused by mutational inactivation of one of the four main MMR genes (MSH2, MLH1, MSH6 or PMS2). This study was planned to investigate clinicopathological features of MSI in colorectal cancer and its effect on prognosis. For this purpose, demographic and clinicopathological data of patient groups with MSI and microsatellite stability (MSS) were compared. Materials and Methods: In this study, the pathology reports of 109 patients who were diagnosed with colorectal cancer and were operated on between 01.01.2015 and 01.01.2019 in the Surgery Oncology Clinic of Cumhuriyet University Medical Faculty Hospital were analyzed retrospectively. MLH-1, MSH-2, MSH-6, and PMS-2 antibodies were evaluated together with demographic and histopathological features and survival time of the patients. Results: The histological grade distribution difference between the MSS and MSI groups was not statistically significant (p=0.838). Mostly observed T-stage was T3 in both groups, and the differences between the groups were not statistically significant (p=0.405). Regarding the N stage, N0 was more common in MSS and N2 in MSI; however, no significant difference was observed between the two groups (p=0.844). Lymphovascular invasion (LVI) was not observed in most cases in both groups, and the differences between the groups were not statistically significant (p=0.493). Perineural invasion (PNI) was present in most cases in both groups, and the differences between the groups were not statistically significant (p=0.987). Survival rates according to the groups were evaluated using the Kaplan Meier test, and no statistically significant difference was found in the 2-year survival rates (p>0.05). Conclusion: In this study, the relationship of MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, and PMS2's immunohistochemical expression with clinicopathological parameters and survival in patients with colorectal cancer was investigated. According to study results, the losses of expression in the cases were 13.7% for MLH1, 9.1% for MSH2, 12.8% for MSH6, and 14.6% for PMS2. Although it was not statistically significant in the study, we think that the survival rate is higher in cases with MSI. However, there was no statistical difference in MSI in terms of gender, age, grade, localization, LVI, and PNI. More parameters should be studied to detect MSI.

Various drugs were studied in literature to prevent necrosis in stasis zone. The previous researches have shown the effectiveness of Nacetylcysteine treatment on both remote organs and local side in thermal injury. Demonstration of the effectiveness of N acetylcysteine and Ozone on stasis zone prevention in thermal injury was the goal of this study. Methods: For this purpose, 24 4-month-old Wistar albino type female rats weighing 200±20 g were used in the study. Compound burning model was made in these rats. Next, the compound was applied to the combustion model to compare the effectiveness of N-acetylcysteine and Ozone. To identfy histopathological destruction severity a scoring method was applied. Malondialdhyede (MDA), Glutathione Peroxidase (GPx), Superoksid dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT) levels were analyzed in serum samples of the rats to find out the alterations in the balance between oxidatitaion and antioxidation system. Results: While the highest MDA levels were observed in group I, the decrease was significant in group II and III (p=0.03 and p<0.02). SOD levels were significantly higher in group III compared to group II (p<0.05). CAT levels were higher in group II and III than group I (p<0.001, p<0.001). GPx levels were higher in group II (p<0.001), and group III (p<0.001). Histopathological scores were lower in group III than group I (p=0.001). Conclusion: This study showed that both Ozone and N-acetylcysteine are effective agents in rescuing the stasis site. It was also concluded that Ozone might be more beneficial than N-acetylcysteine.

Materials and Methods: A total of 32 patients underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy or distal pancreatectomy at Sivas Cumhuriyet University Department of Surgical Oncology. CA 19-9 values were evaluated by retrospectively examining the data of the patients. By examining the pathology reports, the presence of lymphovascular and perineural invasion and lymph node metastasis was evaluated. Results: The mean serum CA 19-9 level in patients with lymphovascular invasion was 242.38 U/mL, and the mean serum CA 19-9 level in patients without lymphovascular invasion was 31.73 U/mL. The mean serum CA 19-9 level was 220.93 U/mL in patients with perineural invasion and 15.23 U/mL in patients without perineural invasion. The mean serum CA 19-9 level was 238.52 U/mL in patients with lymph node metastasis and 35.16 U/ mL in patients without lymph node metastasis. A value of 16.25 U/mL of serum CA 19-9 gives a positive result of 84.7% for lymphovascular invasion and 91.8% for perineural invasion. A value of 27.06 U/mL of serum CA 19-9 gives a positive result of 85.9% for lymph node metastasis. Conclusion: Lymphovascular invasion was detected in 94.44% and perineural invasion was detected in 90.48% of our patients with serum CA19-9 values above 16.25 U/mL. Lymph node metastasis was detected in 80.7% of our patients with serum CA19-9 values above 27.06 U/mL. Before surgery, it is important to predict the probability of lymphovascular and perineural invasion of the tumor and lymph node metastasis, and to make the decision to perform broader surgery and perform adjuvant, neoadjuvant therapy and serum CA19-9 levels are of great benefit in this regard.

The Ki-67 antigen is a factor used for subgrouping of luminal breast cancer into A and B subtypes. 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18 F-FDG PET/CT) is an effective imaging method in the evaluation of patients with locally advanced breast cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between maximum standardized uptake value (SUV max) and Ki-67 expression levels in primary breast cancer. Methods: Fifty-one female patients (43-83 years, mean: 64.7±9.7 years) diagnosed and operated for breast cancer were included in this retrospective study. 18 F-FDG PET/CT was performed for each patient with the purpose of staging. Ki-67 expression levels obtained from pathology data were divided into three groups as <15%, 15-29%, and >30%, and SUV max values obtained from 18 F-FDG PET/CT were compared between the groups. Results: A analysis of Ki-67 expression levels and SUV max of the primary tumor revealed a moderate and significant correlation between SUV max and Ki-67 expression levels. Also, a statistically significant relationship was found between SUV max of the primary tumor in the breast and estrogen receptor positivity and progesterone receptor positivity. Although not statistically significant, the mean SUV max in triple-positive patients was high. Conclusion: The correlation between SUV max and Ki-67 expression levels was found to be moderate and statistically significant. However, further studies with more homogeneous groups and larger sample size are needed.

This study investigated the impact of eCRS on survival and peri-postoperative outcomes. Malignant peritoneal mesothelioma (MPM) patients who underwent cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS-HIPEC) were retrospectively examined. Patients who underwent CRS-HIPEC were divided into eCRS and less extensive CRS (leCRS) groups. Resection of ≥5 organs or ≥3 small bowel anastomoses was defined as eCRS. Survival and perioperative outcomes of both groups were compared. In the study including 31 patients, eCRS-HIPEC was used in 15 patients. Complete cytore-duction (CC score 0/1) was achieved in all 31 patients. Compared with LeCRS, mean length of stay, length of stay in the intensive care unit, mean peritoneal cancer index (PCI), and intraoperative blood loss were higher in the eCRS group. Additionally, the risk...
