The purpose of this work is to determine by simulation the distortions caused by micro-cavities on the electric field distribution in the insulating layer of cable. The computation method used to determine the electric field is based on numerical resolution of Laplace equation using the finite element method. The threshold of partial discharges ignition in gaseous cavities contained in XLPE insulation of 30 kV cable is studied. The computation of the critical field by approached formula of Paschen permits us to elucidate the harmfulness caused by a cavity according to its size and its position.

The methodology uses as input variables characteristics of the insulator such as diameter, height, creepage distance, form factor and equivalent salt deposit density. The majority of the variables to be predicted are dependent upon several independent variables. The results from this work are useful to predict the contamination severity, critical flashover voltage as a function of contamination severity, arc length, and especially to predict the flashover voltage. The validity of the approach was examined by testing several insulators with different geometries. The estimation of flashover performance of polluted insulators is based on field experience and laboratory tests are expensive in both time and money; so this method take an efficiency vs experimental tests in laboratories. A comparison among the three kernels function ( MLP , Poly and RBF ) shows the improvement of the LS-SVM with RBF , Polykernels and that the use of combined models is a powerful technique for this type of application.

The design, manufacture and contro l of these components include the need for development, selection, test and control for the proprieties of the materials used. In the case of the transformer, we can notice that the parameter most influencing his life is limited by the degradation of its solid insulation. It is important to test the condition of the impregnated paper that is mainly used as primary transformer insulation. The basic objective of the present study is to perform some dielectric tests with different paper insulation used in powe r transformer. Accelerated thermal and chemical aging procedures were performed in the laboratory. IDA 200 was used to evaluate frequency scan of insulation material properties in a large frequency range, starting from 0.01 H z to 46Hz. The frequency scan s of the capacitance, dissipation factor, real and imaginary part of t...
